    I haven’t even finished watching this video and I want to thank you for it! Thank you Starburst🙏🏻.
    Oh, and I did a small section of the AT and in those four days I received my trail name, it’s Nuthin Yet. A lady named Pace Car gave it to me. Well actually what happened was she asked my trail name and I shrugged my shoulders and said, “nothin yet”. And she giggled and said that’d be a great name. So, that’s how nuthin yet happened. So there ya go. Keep on keepin on.

    You don't need those extra permits in Oregon as long as you have a PCT permit and hike through those areas and do NOT camp. Oregon, currently but will change next year, has kiosks placed at all trail entrances to Wilderness areas. These are self issue. Again, you do NOT need to fill out the permits she listed in Oregon. ALSO, the California Fire Permit is required not only for fires, but to use any flame based cook stove. It's super easy to get...DO IT! The info on physical and mental prep is spot on. I started overweight on this hike and paid the price. Conditioning your tendons, ligaments, muscles, bones for daily miles will help you stay healthy and happy on the trail.

      Hi! So, the PCTA has those permits listed on their website. And I did have to fill out various permits and attach them to my pack in Oregon and Washington. So the key is for people to read every posted sign they come across! Thanks for your input! :)

    Thanks for the video! I just hiked the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon (part of the trail is on the PCT going over Glen Pass in the Sierras). It was a huge confidence booster and left me craving for more. So, "practicing" I guess is part of the preparation process. Side note: talking to SOBOs on the trail - they all seemed so happy - maybe it was because they were almost done with the Sierras or maybe it was because of the bluebird skies - I have no idea, but they were a happy bunch.

    Thanks for this. There have been so many "RUclips Creators" in this past season that have published their hikes (or in some cases, alleged hikes) on the PCT without mentioning once anything about the necessary permits or the long process of planning their trip. It's a LOT of work, and I'm convinced one of them has bamboozled her followers out of funds for her "trip". She's not part of the regular hiking crowd, but I believe she could lead others into trouble. You can't just do this on a whim as she says she did. She's always clean, too. Hmmm... no trail dust and impeccably clean!

      Oh, I agree completely, however when people deceive to obtain funds from others you're moving beyond "creative license" into fraud and larceny. Starburst, Dixie and others genuinely hiked their hikes. But when people run out of vlogging ideas and join the hiking party for content, it's a disservice to ALL involved. These people struggled bot physically and mentally and brought us along with them. They shared their ups and downs and pains and joys. When you see the work of a certain individual and are familiar with some of the areas she filmed for views, you begin to notice that they're all very close to the trailhead and her trail runners lack for wear. When you just "decide" to hike the PCT next month, long after all the permits have been issued, encourage others to follow them along on their journey, you lead others to think they can too. And that can lead them to fines or worse.

    • @SinMore
      @SinMore 4 года назад

      @@johnhouchins3156 ok, I know who you are talking about. I find it very discouraging that viewers might be scrutinizing my hikes in the same manner. I believe adults are capable of making their own decisions about whether they capable of hiking or not. A lot of commenters act like this woman will lead others off of a cliff. When you say "deceive to obtain funds from others you're moving beyond "creative license" into fraud and larceny"...seriously? You seem very into her business and it is impossible for you to KNOW where she gets her money from. Social Blade is ridiculous and doesn't account for overhead. Why don't you simply stop watching her. This idea that "creators" are beholden to viewers is ridiculous. Comparing hikers to one another...especially online! Goes completely against the "hike your own hike" saying. Starburst and Dixie did the whole PCT. This much older woman is doing a SECTION. BTW, she hiked Mount Whitney from the west and that was very difficult and no way to fake that. I did it and it was hard, so I believe that she IS really hiking because she has lost a lot of weight as well. It is really sad to see that you just couldn't be more encouraging of a woman hiking alone. I just enjoy the beautiful videos ALL hikers bring to RUclips. It's not easy putting your face out their for everyone to see. I'm not an actor type but I went to film school so I think RUclips is a wonderful outlet for creative expression. There is one hiker who cusses so much but no one seems offend by him (love his photography with the sound turned down)?! Maybe you can make your own videos?

    Hi, D2 part of us here. I'm so stressed. I spoke with Cassidy at the pcta. She sent me links. I don't want to sobo but will if I have to. I have every reason not to do it. I'm a diabetic (d2), elbow pain, spinal stenosis. I don't have all my finances in place. I'll be 61 years old if I do it. Oliveoil and I just did the 6 pack of peaks of SoCal. We've hiked a few years now. We've done small sections of the PCT. I love this trail. We've given hitches and done wound care. Just a couple of weeks ago we gave a hitch from red meadows to Mammoth lakes after doing devil's post pile, rainbow and lower falls to a couple of sobos. Unfortunately they told us that they saw way too much toilet paper out there. I have a friend who's mom did the pct in the early 90's. I'm all in. Oliveoil has given me the okay. That's all I need. I think the finances will be okay. The big question is will I get a permit. I'm also a Navy veteran. "Damn the torpedoes full speed ahead." Thanks for this video.

    Thanks for the video! I've committed to hiking in 2020! Also loved the graphs in your costs video, I'm hoping to not be spending $8000 though 😂 no $200 pizza parties for me! I'm going to sell some things and cut out my daily coffees to save money - do you have any saving tips that worked for you pre-trail? ☺

      Congratulations!! I am so excited for you! As for saving, I love accounts like Twine which put money away for you slowly without you knowing. And cutting out things like daily coffee or alcohol! You'd be surprised at how much that adds up!!

      @@JenniferMabus Thanks for the tips! I really enjoyed your PCT series, I think it's great you shared the highs and the lows and kept it raw. There's a lot of "pretty" hiking videos out there, but we know the reality is blood, sweat and tears! So thank you for keeping it real! Can I ask what app you used to edit your videos on trail and how you found time to do that? I'd love to document my own hike, even just for friends and family ☺

    What do you feel the best few weeks to start nobo from Campo . I don't want to skip passed Sierra because of snow...

    • @JenniferMabus
      @JenniferMabus  4 года назад +1

      Oh gosh, that definitely depends on the snow year! But starting in April is great because you can take your time and meet the Sierra after the snow *hopefully* has stopped. Or if you are fast you can start early May and potentially not have to wait at all to enter!

      It's a joke when the permits are limited for thru-hikers. I'd be happy to pay a fee to fund State and Federal Parks and register for a permit to, for example, ensure safety and accountability. But these limitations are ridiculous.

    • @JenniferMabus

    50 permits a day what a joke. I'm a law abiding citizen. I think these permits serve a purpose for accountability and safety procedures. Even fees to fund State and Federal Parks should be required. I'd be happy to contribute to maintaining the trail and facilities for all. But this is just insanity. I'm considering just hitting the trail. To hell with it.
