If you leave some crazy claims in the comments section over this video, please leave references. One of the claims i have heard is that KTM is 49% owned by china which turned out to be false.
My buddies Beta has way more issues than my SWM. Electrical, oil leaks, bad routing causing clutch line to leak, oil injection not woking, ECU issues...
@@BackwoodsTinkerer my dad owns one and it been absolutely nothing but problems. Have to order parts from some Chinese company and it’s a pain. It overheats on him, and lots of other issues. So after a couple years of ownership i can honestly say it’s much much worse than this review. I talked to a couple different dealers about parts availability and neither of them were happy with how long it takes to get parts.
@@RacerRed having to order from China is a complete lie bro. I gotta show the sales rep this video and your comments. He's going to have a blast reading your BS.
I have an SWM RS500R. I’ve put over 3000 miles in it last year. Never overheated. I’ve run with KTM 500s Beta 500s etc. Yes, it’s an old “new” bike. Is it an equal to KTM and Beta? No, but for $5000 less than the others, I have a bike that runs at 90th percentile with them. I have found sprockets and chains without a problem. You shop as you have a 2010 Husky TE510. KYB suspension, Brembo brakes. Fuel injection. Hydraulic clutch. Value is how you perceive it. Would I prefer a CRF450RL? Yes, but that needs $1500 in tuner and exhaust alone to get to the HP my SWM has now. 42 dyno at the rear wheel. I could buy alot of gas and accessories with the money saved. The distribution has changed to a more enthusiastic dealer called. Central Powersports Distribution in South Dakota. Lots of support from Facebook groups in USA and Australia. Dealer network is growing. Nothing is Frankensteined. I’ve never been stranded by the bike.
@@RacerRed I have read the same stories about brand new KTM and Husqvarnas breaking down .......... it is not happening often, but it is happening.....
I've ridden many CRF450L's in fact I was invited to and attended the North American launch in Packwood WA. I'd much rather own a SWM RE500, handles better, way faster, WAY easier to maintain and work on, just a better bike all around.
Mate I have had a SWM Superdual X for 2 years ... I live in Australia, I have not had any overheating problems . I also have had no acceleration issues. Make sure you were on the derestricted model as all the Superdual X & T can come derestricted . Anyone can service the bike in Australia except for warranty.stuff. Your review has been written very subjectively Maybe you should buy one of the new Harley Adventure bike Seriously how long have you ridden SWM. I spent 18 months researching the bike through reviews. I could not did a negative review. In December 2020 I was on a run with a fewates up to a popular motorbike cafe. On top of the mountain I met another SWM Superdual X rider we got talking. His bike is one of the original 10 produced he had done over 60,000 km on it and had traveled from Aust to Europe and ridden all through Europe,Russia and back again. HW had ridden the bike down through Vietnam and into Cbodia and eventually on to Singapore. Yes he had a few issues bit nothing that SWM didnt sort and then fix in the rest of the fleet. GREAT BIKE
When you buy a Suzuki DR 400 or DR 650, you are also buying a new, old bike. There are plenty of other examples also. Buying a new old bike has advantages. For example, they are proven to work and easy to obtain parts over the long term. 😁👍🏼
@@RacerRed Glad you noticed... All the YZ250\ 125 2T bikes are OLD bikes with new suspensions and maybe a newer PV + plastics ... You might not be aware of the fact that these OLD bikes were very good. You failed to mention ANYTHING on how the bike turns ... I have those OLD 250cc models and they will carve a line, inside a line. You also failed to mention anything on who makes that engine ... lol ... If it is OEM stock from Husky, you might can get parts there BUT the 4t Huskies I owned of that era were very solid machines. My 2008 TXC has 12K hours ...
I live in Australia and have had my SWM since 2017 , it’s been a reliable bike with only one ☝️ issue the rectifier went , Dealer support in Australia is pretty good and most states have a number of dealers . Also remember that they are the old TE630,510 and 310 or Mechanic’s that have worked on them “ no problems” , most TE parts will change over . Obviously the Superdual is a bit different but you can easily convert a Superdual to a TE630 ( in Australian we go the SWM RS 650 until 2018 ) . I do however think 🤔 they need to update their models ( essentially the Superdual apparently they are working on a twin engine. After market parts 1. Air filters same as old TE,s 2. Oil filter same as old TE,s 3. Plug same as old TE,s 4. Oil type same as old TE,s Twin Air, Unifilter , K& N all do aftermarket filters etc . Barrett- an Aussie made pipe is on my Superdual- RS/TE conversation.
Hay mate Paul from Australia, I was one of the original Superdual owners back in 2017 when I got mine , it’s had a few small issues that have now been addressed and sorted by SWM in Australia. From other reviews I have read about SWM in the States you guys don’t seem to have the dealer network sorted yet. Just to give you info SWM was just the name ( from the original SWM,s back in the 1970,s- and 80,s ) nothing really to do with the modem SWM,s, just brought a name to use basically. The engineer that designed the original Huskies purchased the old design Huskies of KTM after BMW sold Husky to KTM .KTM didn’t want Husky anymore. As KTM basically just put Husky stickers on KTM,s they didn’t want the old design TE310,510 and 630 . So under the new acquired name they just reopened the factory ( rehired the old workforce) and started building the bikes under a different name . But made some updates like different fuel ⛽️ injection, stronger rear subframe and colour obviously. A lot of parts go straight on ( for example a lot of SWM 500 owners put the TE510 seat on as it’s more comfortable) . and the 630 - now 650 ( that’s actually still a 600 was not a bored out 500 - it from the old TE510. Anyway hope they sort out dealer network and parts .
Makes a lot of sense to buy one. 1. The engines are proven to be strong (500 and 300) 2. Cheap 3. Might not have many options for aftermarket parts but technically you don’t need all that expensive stuff to make the bike run. 4. It’s a great in between bike. Good service intervals. Lighter then some other fuel sport bikes. It sits between the reliability of a drz and the looks of a serious enduro race bike. 5. Like the service intervals. You can put many more miles/kms/hours on these bikes before an oil change. Not like the others where you have to change them after the 3rd ride etc.
Be positive. Its a proven new old bike with grest suspension and reliable and so well priced. Far better than a KTM. If you use your head you will find parts
I’ve done the research,I’ll gladly take 2014 husky tech, for $8000 than $15000.00 new ktm bike prices. Their building a new factory in Italy. Having owned Yamahas ,Hondas ,Kawasaki all my life. They have just been priced out of range, especially for me that might ride 2 weekends a month.
Its funny you mention gasgas (Rieju now) having better parts support when the importer CPD direct is the importer for both SWM/Rieju and carries all parts for both SWM and Gasgas legacy. Mark Burg the owner of CPD is fantastic and will send out any parts you may need for either brand. I'll give you physical dealer support is difficult in some areas for sure. That being said any of the dealers all over the US will support and be able to get parts shipped to you. I think that is very blown out of proportion. As for cost with the parts that you get and the platform its on they are still very much ahead of bikes like the KLX 300. I think there is a ton of value you there from engine to suspension. Some things will be dated in comparison but if we are honest how far has technology really come since that platforms inception. For the most part its minor especially for riders just looking to enjoy some weekend trail riding. Euro bikes and electrical problems are pretty much the territory. I don't care if its beta (19s like mine all came with bad wiring), Sherico, gasgas legacy, or KTM they have some weird ass electrical lol. You take a risk with smaller brands true but if you look into the USA based companies who bring them in I've found the relationship is awesome and support has been fantastic, even for my Chinese GPX Moto bikes.
im very interested in the SWM, and them buying out the factory has to be a good sign. They are right on the money with dualsports and ADV bikes. even if its an "old" new bike lol. Ive been eyeing the superdual, but like you said, the dealer support is what is scaring me
Yeah, the one my dad got started having an issue with the internal kickstand sensor and kept dying on him. He had to fix it himself. Then he ordered a sprocket from the dealer he got the bike from and I don’t think he ever actually got it. Then he tried to get an aftermarket exhaust and couldn’t get one...
@@RacerRed Lots of bikes have the kickstand sensor problem including the DRZ400 I once had. I have 4600 miles on my superdual 650 and never had that or any other problem. This review is hasty and harsh. I also owned a DR650 and loved it, but I'd take my superdual 650 any day over it!
I got the swm 300r and cant fault it apart from the plastics being a lil stiff but otherwise its great and goes awsome on single trail and log hops and what not i can go anywhere and do anything my mate can do on his wr450
That’s awesome. I’m glad you are liking it. Like I said at the end of the video, my opinion isn’t the only one. I encourage people to research stuff on their own.
You've been spoiled by the excellent folks at Moto One ! I have a Husky 630 which is the predecessor of the SWM 630. It's not a bored out 450, the motor has been around quite awhile and in the 630 is actually a very good running motor. There quite a bit of knowledge to be found on the old Cafehusky site and the Husky forums on ADV rider. If the wheels are the same KTM sprockets fit. It's certainly no match for my Beta 500 in the dirt but they are a good choice for longer range adventure rides.
Ah, that’s the trouble with talking about stuff on the fly. Thanks for correcting the “bored out” comment. The SWM definitely overheats though. The owner told me they bored the 450 out but I didn’t verify that. Also, I have been very spoiled by Moto One. It’s a good place to go for help!
@@RacerRed how is your review so-called "truthful" when you don't verify the "bored out 450" comment from a random owner? Agree that their price needs to come down in light of other bike prices also going down (leftover Betas).
Your report on SWM enduro motorcycles is not enthusiastic. Personally, I like the RS500R. I have a SWM dealership 50 miles away from home. Service and parts should not be an issue. This bike looks and runs great, at least with upgraded exhaust and ECU remap. The only drawbacks for a dual sport/ adventure purpose is 1250 miles service intervals and 7.2 liters tank capacity.
Among the bikes we had, that were lost in the CAMP fire, were 4 Italian Husky's. I had a '08 TE 510 and an '11 TE 630. G/F had a '11 TE 630 and a '08 TE 250 with the '09 TE 310 kit I installed. They were all bought brand new. The 630's and earlier 610's and surly the 650 SWM's have a fatal clutch flaw, and I wouldn't but a SWM 650 because of it. The SWM RS 300 and 500 I would take any day over any Japanese bike offerings, and probably would over any other EURO DS bike, as the Husqvarna TE's they are based on are that good. Was it the Dirt Bike online review of the RS 500 that says it has (always did) more power the KTM 500's of either color. Anyways, I like watching your ride vids, but this one had me saying what the .....
I don't own a Superdual so cannot speak from personal experience but none of the models are Frankenstein as you put it. Not in my opinion anyway. The 300, 500 and 650 in their model lineup are all 2008-2010 Husqvarna engines. Not copied and just using the tooling but built in the same factory by most of the same workforce and same engineers and same head of engineering as the mentioned Husqvarnas - TE310, TE510 and TE630 engines respectively. As far as the Enduro models go - the 300 and 500 - the engine, gearbox, frame, subframe, swingarm, fuel tank, etc are all identical to the equivalent Husqvarna models and parts are interchangeable. The have updated Brembo brakes, Mikuni fuel injection, 48mm KYB forks, KYB rear shock, Michelin Enduro tyres, Domino grips, LED lights all around, etc. The plastics and some bits and bobs like footpegs (thankfully the stock ones are pretty decent) are of their own design and presumably made by their Chinese parent company. I have owned 2 DRZ 400. One SM and one E with FCR carb and Yoshimura RS3 pipe. Great bikes and extremely reliable. I now own a SWM RS 300 R. It has just shy of 1 500km on the clock. The stock black plastics are horrible. In terms of pretty much everything, aside riding on tarmac (and the black plastics), this bike is in a different league than the DRZ. The suspension, weight and more specifically balance, brakes and clutch are far superior to the DRZ, not even mentioning the DR650.
SWM is a very good bike and I have a great dealer near by! Dirt bike magazine rates the bike in the top 3 best dual sports! You need to do your research before bashing the bike and dealership! You must've got your aSS dusted a couple times by the SWM!😂😂😂😂#noitallloudmouth
My Superdual X is 3 years old , cant knock it , straight out of the crate will travel around Australia . Had an 08 450 Husky for ten years , rock solid reliable. Every new 4T overheats . Highly recommend SWM . Stupid , ridiculous review , not even riding one , DR is a fucking dinosaur , SWM is in another league.
Seems like a lot of the owners commenting are from Australia. Must be popular there. My reviews main points are solid, even if the facts aren't 100% accurate. The bike is an old model Husqvarna, it has some chinese parts mixed in with the high quality stuff, dealer support sucks in most areas, and aftermarket parts are nearly non existent. That said, its still a fine bike, and if you are having fun on it then keep smiling. This is not a review on your wife, its a review on a pile of plastic and metal.
all that trashtalk about the 600cc. . . husqvarna was using the same setup for the 630 it was the 610 bottom with the 510 cylinder and head with stainless valves. And the designer of all these engines is the today owner of swm . these engines are torque monsters .people want new design brand new ktm with 1 bearing at the camshaft ...
I have a Dealer 5 minutes from my house. Also you can order directly from the SWM parts warehouse in California. I have the app on my phone. The app shows you every part number I under stand what you are saying. Dealer support is a must but give it time. I personally like to work on my own Equipment especially motorcycles so for me its not a deal breaker at all.
Exactly, me too. I would never give my brand new bike to a dealer to practise his plumbing skills.... Most of the shops have may be one licence mechanic and the rest of the guys would be apprentices .....
@outback3791 a year ago when you made this comment CPD (the importer) was in the Dakotas now they are in Texas. SWM never had a warehouse in California.
It seems they've added a fair number of dealers. As a 2002 GasGas owner, I truly understand the parts and resale aspect. But that doesn't take away that the GasGas actually handles better in the woods than my KTM.
Please stay on the trail. If it too muddy for you to stay on the trail then wait for it to dry up before you ride. This type of riding behavior contributes to trail closures so fewer places to ride. Ride responsibly.
This is a 1 mile 4x4 trail. Thousands of miles surround it and are illegal to ride on. It’s ok to go around mud. In fact, if the thousands of miles surrounding this area were opened you wouldn’t see much of a track anywhere at all.
Yoy guys stress to much. Its a great simple bike that doesnt need much dealer support. You live in a country where you can mail order any spare you want. Its well worth the cost savings
I live close to Italy (that makes it close to Austria too lol) and from everybody who went on factory tour at SWM you will see photos of engines being assembled and a warehouse full of parts. What you wont see is the parts being manufactured, you see just the assembly. I dont think they are bad bikes, but I do think that parts that aren't brembo, mikuni, etc.. parts that are swm (husky) , are manufactured in China and assembled in Italy so they can advertise it as made in Italy. Thats just my suspicion, most parts are a direct fit if you buy husky part though,so you can fix it easily for most part.
That’s cool that you got to tour the factory! That would be crazy if what you are saying is true and the bike is actually made in China. Thanks for commenting!
Your suspicion is correct. My RS500 Was one of the first. I think it is moronic to think you can buy a bike today for under 10k and believe, or even want it all to be made I the factory. If you are to look at every brand. I can guarantee that they have ALL. had issues. I draw line at buying a bike 16-17k a bit rich... And I would absolutely expect for that money the BEST reliability and performance. But then that would just be a dream... So in reality what I look for is LOOKS, BALANCED performance, and the most crucial part being able to afford keeping it maintained. Just take a look at the part fisch and you will that I could rebuild my whole engine for less $2000. Engine, gearbox, injection system. Tell me where you can do that...
I don’t like your review , it’s you ranting about the bike not being good or a Frankenstein . I have one and I have zero issues , I also have new2024 ktm exc500 and they are equal in many ways . Those redheads are minimal maintenance and last a very long time.yiur video does have good information about a lack of dealers . Here in Cali we got about 5
Every bike has its issues, beta has more than its fair share that's coming from a dealer that works on them! Being an swm rs500 owner the bike is fairly solid sure there is the odd shit part but I had changed them out such as starter motor relay and plastics bought the original husqvarna ones they sell the bike so much cheaper than its competition so you have to expect to spend a small amount on upgrades! Put any of these enduro bikes up against a drz and they will all be high maintenance bikes in comparison!
@Blunt yes sure can run safari tank with stock seat and plastics all you need to do is trim a small amount of front of side plastics and bend some thin plate to join safari tank to plastic many have done it! The tank fits up well and only slightly wider where your knees are, well designed and tough!
Dealer support? Idaho has a motorcycle dealer that isn't nine hours away? I live in a town with no moto except a Harley dealer with two bikes and never expect dealer support. The RS300S is ten times the bike than a 300L of KLX300 on suspension alone (my crazy claim) from what I've ridden. I know I'll have to work on an SWM myself, if that's the way I go, just like all the others. I mean, yours is the first negative SWM review I have seen, and it was a mile down the list from the others on the feed. In fact, I haven't heard one word about dealer support being near the top of deciding factors for any bike I've looked at. I dread the dealer experience and don't want them involved to buy a moto. It's kind of a ripoff process and I hate the idea I can't buy manu direct. I listened, though, and will add your comments to all the other reviews I run through.
Good to hear your take on it. I have found that dealer support is essential. We couldn't even get a sprocket that would fit the bike through the dealer we bought the bike from. Much less diagnostics on weird electrical issues if they ever came up. All I'm saying is it's nice to have somewhere to take the bike if it immediately starts having weird issues that aren't easily fixed.
I have the superdual and the RS300R. I agree with you. I just put the power up kit on my 300 and that thing is unreal. No japanese 300 holds a candle to it and the KYB suspension in tough to beat!
Sadly I think you are very uninformed here mate, but agree re dealer support in the US and UK, but also Hear this is rapidly changing, bang for your buck you cannot go wrong in Aus this is some 9k cheaper than a ktm and let’s face it they wear out sprockets chains etc etc.... also a very high maint schedule if ridden hard the old husky engines are bulletproof notes by how many down under have 7-15k on them road to trail to single track. But each to their own.. good luck with your DRZ and no development for some 20yrs
Also, I dont blame anyone for getting a SWM, and if they keep it running and have good luck with it thats awesome. This video is all about my opinion on the topic, and i haven't seen that the cost savings paid off. I personally would have rather gotten a DR650, or XR600
@@RacerRed You don't own it... you father does and he let you ride it and the side stand switch packed it in on the trail.. easy fix if you have a little bit of mechanical knowledge. .
Are you serious.. how can you talk about some thing you don't know...you should talk to people who actually own them.. sorry buddy but you are full of it..
There is SO much wrong with the info in this video. I don't even know where to begin. You swung a leg over on Superdual (that's what it is called, you should at least know the name) and then went a rode a Beta and bashed SWM. I own a superdual, have owned piles of the huskys the off road versions are based on and have extensive background with these Italian huskys. The Superdual has WAY less issues than the KTM790 I just came off of, is a great bike and works exactly as you would hope looking at it. Plus Brembo brakes, fully adjustable suspension, crash bars, center stand, EFI.... the list goes on and on and all this for 8K!!!! If people were not lemmings they would buy this over a DR650 or KLR650 ALL DAY LONG. THe 300 and 500 off road bikes are very good. They are semi heavy but KYB suspension, Brembo brakes, Mikuni EFI, and a GREAT proven motor that lasts a LONG time. I have owned probably around 10 of the Italian versions. The 08 TXC450/510 is an amazing bike. I ride those against the new iron all the time and have zero issues. Like it more than many "modern" bikes. This video does a disservice to SWM.
This video was just 100% my experience. No bias whatsoever. Parts have been very hard to come by as many of them are not old husky parts. The thing overheats, and has failures much more than any of our other bikes. The owner (my dad) still likes it, but does complain that it flames out.
Like most of his comments, he was also wrong about the bikes the SWM's are based off. They are pre BMW era designed bikes. SWM are just using the factory in Northern Italy that BMW built.
@@jasonpoznic9801 So, you’re saying that when I said “2014 or older quote, I should have said they are even older than that? I think I left it pretty open as to how old they are. According to your comment, though, they are even worse than how I described them. Keep in mind, I am talking about this while riding and without the information in front of me. That said, I was incredibly accurate for this type of video.
Yes, based on older Husqvarna models. No, not worse. The pre BMW era bikes were and still are much loved by owners and have a reputation as being reliable (some say bulletproof). The later BMW era Husqvarnas unfortunately don't have that reputation from what i can gather. This is of course just my opinion from research done before purchase.
Hi are friends with SWM's. I also own a Beta and a 2 KTMs. I believe part of your opinion is biased because you live in an unpopulated state. Dealer support around other parts of the country for both motorcycles is more plentiful than where you're at. I don't disagree with everything you said.
Was this actually a review? Or just someone’s unresearched opinion? Oh hang on, he is riding a dirt bike, albeit not the one being reviewed, so must know what he is talking about right? Or maybe he is just looking for reviews for himself so as to find his RUclips channel. That’s time I’ll never get back.
As a previous owner of a two "Frankenstein" bikes(Pitster Pro XTR250 and a GTX Moto FSE250R) I have a couple of big grips; 1. never knowing what is going to fit or if the part is going to need modification(even parts form the distributor didn't always fit correctly) 2. Attempting to find information and knowledge about the bike to take care of issues is completely frustrating, there is no manual, no dealer and hardly anything decent form the user community. 3. The general quality(you get what you pay for....) the engines and frames, I admit were solid, but everything else was Chinese junk....EFI, suspension, electricals, plastics, fasteners etc., etc.... there were constant issues which circles me back to grips 1 & 2.... I agree with you RacerRed is far better to spend the money up front to get an established, known quality brand .... or suffer the consequences and expenses later....
they are one of the few companies that make a racing super moto with a plate. i think tm is another brand but who else make street legal racing sm?none. i might buy their 500 sm r at some point
Having had a lot of bikes and decent mechanical skills, I tried the SSR450 and Kayo K6250efi. Both bikes I liked, but wouldnt buy another rebranded bike again. Like u said its always sketch when u try to replace parts with Frankenstiened parts and not having a dealer to fall back on. Im much happier with my Kawi and Yamaha bikes.
I'm always glad you hear a reasonable response on this video. I'm also happy that you are enjoying the bikes you have! I have a pretty good mix, but would love to add a Beta to my stable.
@@RacerRed Im partial to the Xtrainer and 350rr-s. I like Beta. Im just very familiar with Klx and Yz motors and chassis since they never update them, just modernize certain areas LOL. Iv came full circle with my riding, I dont race and my skill level and solo wilderness trips doesnt justify a $10-12k enduro bike going that pace.
This is why I will not buy anything that has been rebranded. There just isn't much aftermarket or oem support for them. Hardly any online forums for troubleshooting or anything. I thought maybe the GPX bikes would be good, but its the same old story.
I agree. You can really get stuck with a bike that doesn’t have parts available. Yeah, the GPX is a Chinese knock off of a lot of different bikes. Finding parts for it could be really hard.
? If it’s a rebranded Husky TE510 (as one eg), you have OEM and aftermarket surely, or does Husky and any aftermarket parts just disappear? I agree older bike and won’t be getting new aftermarket stuff, but what farkle are you after? For nearly 50% of the cost of a new KTM which is marginally better .... I’ll take a chance on SWM I reckon.
@@paulmilo999 I have looked for an exhaust, and headlight for the SWM superdual T. It was very difficult for me to find. I'm sure someone on here will pop up and say how easy it is, but it's not. An arrow exhaust is the only aftermarket option and you pay up the butt for it. If i broke the headlight there is no clear option as far as websites to go to. Most other brands i can go to any website and find a lot of options of parts. Thats how it goes when you have a small brand, but its not for me.
Then you should go buy a bike that's 30% dearer. And see if you don't have issues as well. All bikes have problems. I guess KTM has heaps of aftermarket stuff.. but then you be just like the thousands of the other. I ride SWM because I ride Husqvarna, but then I work on my own bike and have no issues problem solving issues that arrise.. and there are not many... I have 8500klms and still have not adjusted my valves... See how you go with a KTM
Opinions are like ass______s, everyone has one. I am not an SWM lover but I bought one, 2020 rs500r. It has been a good bike like many others(Austrian, Japanese etc). I think your review is on that particular piece of crap your dad owns. You could have said that early on and not smashed all SWM models. Live and learn.
Not exactly correct, but in theory close enough. SWM actually built Husqvarna's for Cagiva husqvarna, after the ktm purchase SWM continued building under there own name inheriting the tooling.
I've been considering one of these to replace my WR250R but it looks like maybe I should look elsewhere. I mean a CRF450RL isn't bad but for some reason I have the touch of death on ktm products...
Kinda bs review. I have the 2007 250/450/510/610 love them easier to work on than the ktm 525. The exhaust is nice already. My 610 is way better than the dr650. My 02 640 will also smash those others. I'll take a new SWM anytime.
Glad they work for you! We got a SWM 650T and the shift sensor quit right away so it would kill the bike for some reason if you shifted out of neutral. Then the engine light started coming on and it started overheating. We still have it but it’s got issues. We tried to order parts but they never came… what a nightmare
And maybe the better alternative to KTM, Sherco, Beta, Husqvarna or SWM for that matter would simply be Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki. Lower cost of entry, dealer support out the wazoo in every small town in America and aftermarket parts by the barrel full. You mentioned Japanese bikes as almost a disease-ridden option as part of the video. Because as we all know, heaven forbid you have Nissin brakes on your bike, your day will be ruined!
While i would 100% agree on the Japanese bikes, the only competitor to the Orange, Blue, White, Red and Black Euro bikes are the Honda CRF450L. Zero offerings from the others and that is a sad sad thing. Having run Brembos and Nissin on the street and dirt i could care less of the name. They all stop, don't fade and put me on my face or ass. Only advantage if you can all it that is the hydraulic part. My cable XR400 and XR600 are just as light and easy 2 finger as my Brembo's. I am wore out before my clutch or brake fingers on either so........
@@jaredbauer3058 Would i rub salt in the wound if i told you my XR4 was E-Start too? I just like the simplicity of a bike that just works. @@cmbscx1084 Now you are just blatantly showing off! I have two XR100'S for my twin 11 year old boys and they are literally the perfect bikes for them to learn and grow on. Low maintenance, properly suspended, large wheel, clutch bikes...hard to find new.
I said that in comparison to a super ‘high end’ bike. I said I’d rather have a Japanese bike than a SWM by far. I don’t disagree with anything you said. I have a DRZ400S and love it.
I looked hard at these, but I just couldn't. I don't mind the idea of them being an old design but they're just poorly done. That's what put me off. I also have gone with Beta. Actually I have 2 :)
The worst about that bike is that China saved SWM factory in Italy, so in the future there will be more parts of that bike manufactured in China. It has absolutely nothing in common with Husqvarna any more except engine drawings..... There are rumours that Chinese V twin will come out in this bike too..... I still think it is better and newer bike ( technology ) than Suzuki's DR 650 - for the same price.
If you leave some crazy claims in the comments section over this video, please leave references. One of the claims i have heard is that KTM is 49% owned by china which turned out to be false.
It's India! 😅
So then why do you make tons of false claims about the brand...?
I’m glad you are liking your bike! The bike we got broke down almost as soon as we got it and we couldn’t get dealer support or find parts.
Your review has been written very subjectively
Maybe you should buy one of the new Harley Adventure bike
Seriously how long have you ridden SWM.
GREAT BIKE
Our SWM broke within a few rides. No way to get parts here.
Well said john Herbert.
@@RacerRed no way to get parts where? CPD who is the distro in the states has all the parts plus tons of parts from the Husky carriers over.
When you buy a Suzuki DR 400 or DR 650, you are also buying a new, old bike. There are plenty of other examples also. Buying a new old bike has advantages. For example, they are proven to work and easy to obtain parts over the long term. 😁👍🏼
Great point 👍🏻
After market parts
1. Air filters same as old TE,s
2. Oil filter same as old TE,s
3. Plug same as old TE,s
4. Oil type same as old TE,s
Twin Air, Unifilter , K& N all do aftermarket filters etc .
1. The engines are proven to be strong (500 and 300)
2. Cheap
They aren’t bad bikes. Everyone has to make the decision for themselves.
I have a te450 and man it’s been a great bike nothing broke in yet ! Engine is solid but finding parts is hard . But maybe swm will sell them now .

Anybody who worked on Husqvarna will n can work on the swm. Top notch parts suspension brakes n Injection ....more powerful than the ktm n Husqvarna
RacerRed They certainly treated us right when we made the trek from Atlanta to Idaho last September
Was it the Dirt Bike online review of the RS 500 that says it has (always did) more power the KTM 500's of either color. that 510 is a monster of a great bike.

When I see a comment under this video I always assume it will be an angry SWM fan lol. I’m glad to see a normal one!
If anyone cruises around on one brand bike, while 'reviewing' another brand, i'll click off straight away.
makes sense
Not really a fair review, parts are available online via Evolution Bike in Italy. A “mile below” would be the Chinese bike market like GPX.
True
@@RacerRed there's a bazillion options for sprockets online. It just speaks to a level of laziness or ignorance that you can't find parts

Sadly I think you are very uninformed here mate, but agree re dealer support in the US and UK, but also
Hear this is rapidly changing, bang for your buck you cannot go wrong in Aus this is some 9k cheaper than a ktm and let’s face it they wear out sprockets chains etc etc.... also a very high maint schedule if ridden hard the old husky engines are bulletproof notes by how many down under have 7-15k on them road to trail to single track. But each to their own.. good luck with your DRZ and no development for some 20yrs
I’m not uninformed. My experience is from ownership experience.
Also, I dont blame anyone for getting a SWM, and if they keep it running and have good luck with it thats awesome. This video is all about my opinion on the topic, and i haven't seen that the cost savings paid off. I personally would have rather gotten a DR650, or XR600

I think you nailed it. Latter years of the Italian/BMW Husqvarna brand suffered from significant quality issues.
Thanks for the comment! I’m not too familiar with the Husqvarnas from that time.

Yeah, it just makes much more sense for me to buy a bike that I can get parts for fairly easily. I noticed that there are a lot of dealers in CA.

What do they cost and what do they go for used
As a previous owner of a two "Frankenstein" bikes(Pitster Pro XTR250 and a GTX Moto FSE250R) I have a couple of big grips; 1. never knowing what is going to fit or if the part is going to need modification(even parts form the distributor didn't always fit correctly) 2.

What issues have you had with GPX? I own 5 of them and rent them I've had some minor issues but Gary at GPX has always been awesome to work with.
I bought in 29 May the SWM VAREZ 125. TOO MANY ISSUES AND THE FACTORY DOES NOT RESPONDS TO MY EMAILS
@@RacerRed probably got the guy after lunch that had a little too much wine building it. Lol.
@@cmbscx1084 Man, an XR400 AND an XR600. Color me jealous. I'm a very large XR fan...I'm not fat, I just like XR's.
@@jaredbauer3058 Would i rub salt in the wound if i told you my XR4 was E-Start too? I just like the simplicity of a bike that just works. They do so many things well it is hard not to have at least one. I have looked for years but never found a plated XR250 or that would be in the stable to. Whatever you ride make sure it make you smile.
I don’t blame you!
First like and comment. Great job on this, many many people will benefit from this.
Thanks for the comment! I hope it helps people!
Thanks for the honest opinion! Those are rare to come by these days.
Gas Gas is now KTM.
Good point. My comment about gasgas doesn’t apply to the 2021 or newer models since KTM snatched them up.
Don't forget Rieju now that they have picked up the gasgas enduro!
Have you been paid for doing this poor review, no content other than saying SWM derives from an previous HUSQ ?
