    What happens if you don’t cut it each winter? Say for a screen or hedge.

      It grows mainly from the outside of the root area so it still does fine. Would probably do better if you did cut or burn every few years but not a have to. I have some that hasn't been cut in 5 years and is looking great.

      The best thing to do is to do a soil test, then provide nutrition based on the results. Dr. Heaton doesn't recommend any more than 100 units of nitrogen in Iowa. Manure is often a safe bet.

      MISCANTHUS IS INVASIVE. DO NOT PLANT. Follow Kyle @ Native Habitat Project and educate yourself and others. Life depends on this change happening as soon as possible.
