Is it absolutely necessary to unbolt the manifold from the head to reach this pipe? I had the manifold off only last year for carbon cleaning and dread the prospect of having to disconnect everything again just for access.
I haven't done the job yet, but unfortunately the intake manifold blocks access to one of the three bolts securing the coolant flange to the head. You don't have to detach it completely unless you want to for cleaning. I'm going to try to do the job by unbolting it from the head while leaving most of the harness spaghetti in place.

This is complete nonsense, mine cracked in exactly the same place and in the same way and I was stranded on the road. Why doesn't such a big car company recall and replace this obviously faulty part?
Hey man great work. I just replaced my oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket on 320d was easy enough to do. However I noticed when reattaching the hose to the coolant flange it was leaking from the flange but only when I pushed on it do you think I should replace it or maybe the bolts are loose I haven’t got the e8 or e3 torx bit to check
@@albania2664 they are not expensive. I did change the o-rings. Also changed the swirlflaps since they're also very cheap. But if doesn't show signs of leakage, it is not necessary
Hi , is that coolant or water above the oil filter and inlet manifold at the start of the video ? . There was smoke coming under my bonnet and there was liquid at the same exact area , I’m assuming it’s same issue with coolant flange .
No, I didn't take the intercooler pipe off. If you want to take the intercooler pipe off, it's easy. Just pull the clip off. You can see in my other video how I took off the manifold from bmw 420d it's almost the same engine. Something the manifold is stuck, you will have to leaver it
Have the exact same car/year and coolant started leaking a couple of weeks ago. How much can I expect a garage to charge me for this job? Was going to ask if you were close to Manchester but think by your accent you aren't!

good morning my pipe was broken, and i wasn´t at home and cant drive with this car. So i had bring it to service. I had to pay 4 Hours working for changing this pipe. Was that fraud ? How long you need for changing this pipe I have paid 400 euro but in Germany 100 are taxes. so the service take minus pipe and water 250 euro. you think this price was not too much ?
Hi it took me just under 2 hours to do , 4 hours is a lot for a pipe, did you take it to bmw services centre, I can't remember how much it costs in total its was around £300 parts and labour

Hi This pipe cracked last month on my 520d got it replaced from a garage but it cracked again yesterday. Any ideas what could be the reason for it to crack again with in few weeks . thanks
Omg was just working on this on my bmw f20 with the same problem i removed the EGR also bc i tought the manifold wont come of with te egr on it i gonna cry worked for hours 😢😢 Sorry for the bad english🤣
Hi i have a 530d xdrive and its just drains The water coolant out like it was nothing.. i cant see where it comes from but when i look under The Car it looks like its leaking from The front diff right under The engine…. Could it be this problem????

u should change intake seals and clean up covers around intake to prevent sand and dirt go into the engine.

It's usually a pipe or wiring holding it,
Mine broke at 240.000, changef it, problem solved. Also cleaned the intake manifold since it was disconnected

I tried to change the same part. Loosened the manifold but it wouldn't come out like it did for you. Did you disconnect the intercooler?
No, I didn't take the intercooler pipe off. If you want to take the intercooler pipe off, it's easy. Just pull the clip off. You can see in my other video how I took off the manifold from bmw 420d it's almost the same engine. Something the manifold is stuck, you will have to leaver it

It's common. The car I done, it had 85k on the clock, and the pipe cracked . If you have the right tools, you can do it

Where did you get the pipe from? Is it from BMW or aftermarket?
If the parts from BMW, and you have proof you got the part from that Particular dealer, you can get it done under warranty,

No problem, it comes off all together. I just have to wiggle it a bit left the manifold up halfway just to get the the pipe

I didn't change the manifold seals they were changed not long ago, I Would recommend changing it
