Never heard of her. No idea who the hell she is but hell disappears and all that is left is pure Diva. I like her. Now it's time to find her recordings and keep on enjoying. Brava lady.
Thank you Latina Magazine for introducing me to such a wonderful gift/person. Her genuine gratitude is priceless. She's the most humbled and appreciative honoree I've ever seen. She defies ALL stereotypes. She's beautiful Afo Latina
*She's not Puerto Rican or from Puerto. She's from New York, born and raised there. Her father was the Puerto Rican, and her mother from Charleston, S Carolina. She is a New Yorker through and through. Not Puerto Rican.*
Reportedly she was friends with Rita Hunter, indeed, one day I saw them from the upper slips in the Chairman's box at Covent Garden. On one occasion Martina greeted Rita with "Hiya skinny"which would only be possible if they were friends. Happy memories of many evenings of her on stage.
Beautiful presentation. Phenomenal and Gracious artist. All of those trolls that feel compelled to complain, moan and groan about the singers. Gather them up and put them on a stage and let’s see what they can do.
@Bravo Luca Correct, that is my opinion and it's entirely valid. Little keyboard warriors with nothing better to do, like you, make me laugh myself to sleep.
Yes, I watched it several times trying to see what the issue was, but couldn't see the conductor, which probably accounts for the issues, if the performers couldn't, either! You can see Mme Arroyo trying to keep time, too.
Well I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, we do roll the R's, puertorrican descendants on the States doesn't speak rolling the R's noticeably, the sound is barely audible.
+operabilia , 3 years after this performance, and 6 months after your comments, how does it feel- with Radvanovsky triumphing all over the world (most recently at the Met as each of Donizetti's 'Three Queens', the first singer to ever do so at that house)- to look back at your comments and realize what a completely useless, utter douche you are?
Well I do not know what you mean by "fab". As a singer I can tell you that it is certainly not top-notch for the Italian belcanto roles. But I'm glad to know you've enjoyed her Amelia.
You said it all, but flaws can always be remedied and should not impact tonal beauty, and style ... If you know anything about belcanto you should share those views. Don't you hear how her middle notes are strained and damaged? I do, as many other belcanto lovers do.
I know her personally and she is a beautiful person for real. Sweet, funny and sassy at the same time. Always humble and gracious.
What an extraordinary tribute to a great Soprano ! Bravo !!!
Great seeing Jessye in the audience

She is one the greatest talents ever to hit the stage
What a sweet lady! God bless her!!! Long live Martina Arroyo!

I loves me my Martina! one of the most Beautiful voices.....
GLORIOUS MARTINA.
Puerto Rico a tiny Island that has given the world big talents!

Michelle and Sondra were both wearing gorgeous green gowns!
Lovely woman and voice!
One day of rehearsal, that's what u call a real singer.
Какой изумительно красивый голос!!!!!!

mexicanstar you're welcome =)

Glorious artist 👏👏
@Dr Dan Jess
We’ve heard him live many times. Beautiful voice.

America at its best….
Is the African American Soprano name Michelle Johnson??
Seriously? Did that happen? Did Sonia Sotomayor pay tribute to Martina?
+StoneCrusherJermz Yes, they're both descendants from Puerto Rico
auguri anche se in ritardo (compleanno il 2 u.s.)
Radvanosky hizo el sobreagudo aL FINAL?
Calleja is totally unsuited to Aida.
Nemorino lost in Thebes
@@Yves_Ka Ha Ha ... I'm Maltese and I like him, but he has limitations. I am not a fan of his vibrato. His version of Di Quella Pira was just wrong

Awful final ensemble. She deserved better.
the chorus was so out of sync with the orchestra and the conductor... like they had very little rehearsal... it was truly a train wreck unfortunately.

Nobody cares what trolls like you think.
Sotomayor could barely roll the R's...
not uncommon btw, for Puerto Ricans.
brainsareus She grew up in New York, she's not fully fluent in Spanish. Most Latinos born in the US don't speak Spanish with complete fluency.
they are both new yorkers, they're not from the island...

Arroyo was great, Calleja is awful.
Sondra: voice totally destroyed. Should have known since day one that dramatic roles were not for her.

I stick to what I wrote and I was especially referring to her foray into Verdian roles; nothing else.
+operabilia I saw her in Chicago as Amelia in Ballo in Maschera and she was fabulous!

Is Calleja a singer?
