Saw Dessa in D.C. Totally floored. Just *wow* soooo much charisma. She's special. AND, she can sing her ass off. How she's not a superstar, I have no idea. Its coming, I'm sure.
I've loved this since I first heard it a month or so ago.. truely gorgeous music. Seeing the three of them perform it adds further layers to it too. Wonderous.
WHO DOWN VOTES THIS???? Jealous much? Please, be a solid person and explain why you gave the thumbs down. Legitimate answers deserve a legitimate response. I've seen her live, while recovering from an infection, and she BLEW MY FACE OFF. I will never be able to explain the talent that you will see when you see Dessa live. In addition to be talented and drop-dead-gorgeous, she's friendly with her fans. Tell me another female artist who lives up to this legitimately fulfills it.
It is amazing to see an artist grow from first I heard. I was introduced with the False Hopes EP. I have been eager for this LP for years. It is great to see so much love on the thread. One troll is amazing for youtube. Amazing -Wings&Teeth_
this is simply amazing. im sorry to have missed her live show, and will have to see her live whenever i get the chance. this blew me away when i first heard it on the Current.
oh Tim, didn't you know -those who can't do ....teach, and those who can't teach....critique. Killer song! Reminds me of old school 50s with a modern beat.
honestly I found this on 893thecurrent's channel and this is what sold me on dessa...good shit right here, you know how much of a bonus it is to find out that she is a mc??!!!! wow plus doomtree is the shit...the lyrics for the chaccone are the shit!!
I just wrote out all the lyrics to this song in order to understand it further...from what I gathered, the song seems to be a love story told from the perspective of the violin.
@turbopopefunktastic It may have been played live but the piano and violin are both from another track. You can hear the same sample on Stik Figa & Oddisee's 'From the Top' from the EP of the same name.
@HesterMcLester well It's not too much of a surprise. If you listen to a lot of her, many of her songs are like this. She has a very beautiful voice :).
@Drunkz101 - Your reasoning is exactly why Dessa should make HipHop music. To change the game! This is how music is moved forward, by an artist that is beyond the genre taking it the next level. Ya know...
@Drunkz101 Real, talented hip hop artists for you to change your mind: Atmosphere, P.O.S., Cecil Otter, Pete Philly & Perquisite, Nujabes, Grieves, Handsome Boy Modeling School...
Very pretty song. As for some comments that I have seen posted, in regard to the finer points of "Chaconnerey". Sorry that you haven't received any accolades for your comprehensive understanding of music. Maybe you should go into education, rather than the fine arts.(writing to you, violamanben).

am i the only one who dislike this version?... it sounds terrible in my ears... i love dessas music but this live performance just doesn't do it for me
"harmonies illustrate themes in a sonic fashion." That's such a nebulous statement. Harmonies can illustrate themes, but thematic material is usually carried by motifs in the melody. She did nothing with harmony. The song has two damn chords ... "Row Row Row Your Boat" is literally more harmonically complex. It's just not fair to the actual Chaconne. Also, it's a viola in my profile picture. The picture doesn't make me an authority on music, but 4 years at a top conservatory does:)
Why to down vote this song: It is based on a fundamentally flawed understanding of a chaconne, and the meaning behind Bach's composition. A chaconne does not utilize a repeated motif, but a repeated harmony. Also, if she had bothered to actually research the chaconne, she would have realized Bach composed it to memorialize his wife after she passed away. The eternal depth of one of Bach's masterpieces is marginalized by a song that does not deserve to carry its name.
Still come back 9 years later. Dessa is such an awesome human.

probably don't like this genre of music, not worth getting worked up for
their voices mesh beautifully....thanks to Dessa for being only what she is and nothing more.
MMM so good.
Love Dessa. Girl knows how to expose her soul through word and music.
Amazing as per usual from Dessa, also bump for Aby Wolf and her amazing voice.
I listen to this almost daily...Dessa is such an amazing artist.
I love Dessa and Aby. So much. They are so great.
I can't stop watching this, every time I go on RUclips I end up watching it.
2021 in Duluth. She's fantastic. She's refreshing and her voice is so soothing. I have her on shuffle now to relax to this rainy day.
This is a joy! The harmonies to die for! Colour me delicate and emotionally drained!
best use of the word chaconne ever!!
this performance deserves a million views, GL.
One of those songs that you love from the first moment you hear it

@Drunkz101 - Cecil Otter is soo sick! His style of poetry, lyricism and underhanded wit is not heard often in HipHop
@turbopopefunktastic It may have been played live but the piano and violin are both from another track.
You can hear the same sample on Stik Figa & Oddisee's 'From the Top' from the EP of the same name.

pretty sure she didn't try to write a chaconne, seems like she wrote this about someone and 'their' chaconne, maybe an obsession?
inte bra
