"Blessed Be"
Written about feeling insecure, doomed relationships, weighty anxiety, lacking serotonin and surviving chemical imbalances. 'Blessed Be' is a reflection on mental health and the self.
friendly reminder you still need to do the one take of circle with me :'D
Blessed Be came out while the "pandemic" was slapping us all physically and mentally... Spiritbox was a savior. They were just dropping song after amazing song the whole time and there were not even signed to a label at the time. They deserve all the success coming their way.
They are amazing favorite Canadian Metal band
Hell yeah, Spiritbox! 🤘 Courtney is one badass vocalist! Her one-takes are really cool to watch too. I'll just agree with those who are recommending Holy Roller and Circle with Me 👍
Well, Belcarra is still easily their most powerful strongest amazzzing song, hands down & up hah! ;-)
As one can witness for exxxample from this Great studio live of their, starts at 5:00. 😲:-)

My favorite track from Spiritbox minus Rule of Nines is Sun Killer. Sun Killer is probably one of the best examples of tension building in song form IMO.
Belcarra is a must! Circle With Me. Holy Roller is a staple…
I would suggest doing "hurt you" and "holy roller " next. I that order I think you will appreciate them more!
Thanks my friend!
So far in his reaction journey, Cheezy has taken deeper dives into all bands he has reacted to, and I'm sure Spiritbox is now on his list. Yet another with very few, if any, weak offerings in the opinion of many.
@@steveherman6909 spiritbox kicks some ass dude. I mean I definitely am into heavier music but when I heard them, especially Courtney, I was like wow cos her voice is amazing. Her singing voice is beautiful then in comes her screaming voice and I was hooked. Some of their songs are very emotional and I feel that shit and some of them, blessed be being one of them, makes me cry. Idk the full meaning behind the song but ik what it means to me and it makes me very emotional.
Hurt You is sooooo damn good
Tunings (7 String):
F# C# F# B E G# C# - Rule of Nines
F C F A# D# G C - Blessed Be
Dude. Her one take of Circle With Me is one of the most impressive vocal performances I've seen in quite a while. I've personally never seen another vocalist do what she does at the end of that video.
That was the video that made me say "ok, yeah this chick is gonna be a problem".
Holy roller or circle with me
Constance and silk in the strings would really be a good representation of the drastic soundscapes these guys span
I'll check these out
Live is even more of an impact. Id never heard of them at Knotfest and was mesmerised. Amazing. And the more u listen the better it gets
My 2 fav spiritbox songs in 1 vid...perfect!
So glad you’re discovering Spiritbox, my favourite band. Always in the metal genre, they’re not afraid to constantly surprise with their exact approach for each track. Courtney LaPlante (vocalist) writes the lyrics and vocal melodies, whilst her husband Mike Stringer (the guitarist in the video for Rule of Nines) writes the instrumental music. These two tracks were released consecutively, in the order you reacted to them, and aren’t on their previous two EPs or their first (and so far only) album, Eternal Blue, which followed them (eventually, as five singles were released from it before it was released itself). Their single after Blessed Be, Holy Roller, was the first of those and gained them a lot of attention.
Every interview I’ve seen or read, every live performance and especially the one-take live vocal videos by Courtney show that not only are they genuinely and naturally talented, but also really lovely, modest and humorous people. Courtney once described Spiritbox as “spooky-scary, but also artsy-fartsy”! She and Mike were previously members of iwrestledabearonce (she replaced their original vocalist who left to raise a family, and Mike joined not long before the pair decided to leave to form Spiritbox).
Their bassist until last year (who plays in both these tracks) was Bill Crook, who left amicably in 2022. Now they have Josh Gilbert, previously of As I Lay Dying, as touring bassist. The drummer you saw and heard was Ryan Loerke, who left when he became a father. Previously, Mikey Montgomery (who was still iwrestledabearonce’s drummer) helped them out as drummer, and after Ryan left, their current drummer Zev Rose joined.
It’s hard to recommend specific songs as they’re all great (IMHO). They’ve done many excellent music videos with Versa Films (such as the one for Blessed Be, here) and a particularly affecting one is for Constance, an all-clean vocals track which draws on events in the lives of Courtney’s family and also of the family of video director Dylan Hryciuk of Versa Films. Holy Roller is a really bouncy, intentionally simple and heavy track with an effectively eerie, self-made video. Their releases prior to the pair you reacted to tend to be more progressive metal in style (like another commenter, I too love Perennial, which has a really beautiful Versa Films video), and includes such works as the epic 3-part Mara Effect. I remember Mike saying in an interview that he decided to simplify his writing style after the initial progressive work, as he wondered if he was being self-indulgent and showcasing his guitar skills. Such a self-deprecating guy! Courtney’s voice impresses more and more, as until the past couple of years, she’d been dealing with a vocal injury for 8 years or so, as her harsh vocals were largely self-taught and it seems an early misstep took its toll. Thankfully, it finally healed just before she needed surgery.
Great info, thanks!🤘
Thanks for sharing Aitchess! This is awesome 😎🧀🤘
Here's the thing. Spiritbox has no throw away track. It's stunning.
REALLY enjoyed this double reaction man. Thumbs up.
Thanks Neal!
Circle With Me and Holly Roller as well as Rotoscope
Fuckin love this band! I think you will too
Of all their songs, these are my two personal favorites. Well done
RIP Bill Crook
You just made my day ❤️
Suzanne, you have made my day as well! Thank you 😎🧀🤘
Holy roller is great! I strongly recommend.
I love how she uses the screaming as an instrument. She’s turned me onto it. Always been into the heavier stuff, but the screaming is something I’ve had to come around to…she does it for me. LOVE this song.
Great to see you react to Spiritbox. I can just recommend you to see their live performances for Mara Effect and all their songs they performed for SiriusXM
Blessed be is a jam, I love this song very much, it was also my introduction to Spiritbox. If you like crying tho they have a song for ya and it hits hard af - Constance! :)
By the way, this is a style of metal called djent. At least from the guitars and bass.
Nice reaction! In your own time or in a future reaction I'd recommend Belcarra and Holly Roller if you want to hear their even heavier side.
check out the circle with me one take vocal! So you can see her in a more natural vocal setting.
Circle with me one take vocals is your next stop FOR SUUUURE
Definitely check out "sun killer" and rotoscope"
Mike plays Drop F# on a 7 String, dudes a baller, you got to check some more! on Blessed Be I think he tunes down a bit more with a pitch shifter
I would love to see what you think about this: " FROSTBITT - Magma " or " FROSTBITT - MACHINE DESTROY " They are a very underappreciated band from Norway.
Fun fact: the guitarist, Mike, wrote all the instrumentation for all their music.
That's awesome
Love this reaction. I have utterly fallen in love with Spiritbox. They are diverse and yet always true to their style. Check out the live one take of 'Circle with Me', 'Rotoscope' and 'Hysteria' which has one of the dirtiest breakdowns ever!! Rxxx
Thank you Rainy!
My personal favorite of Spiritbox is "Perennial". No similarity with Jinjer's Perennial other than two great bands with two great songs with the same name. It's really hard to find a clunker with either band.
I like how you approach the pauses and brief commentary so I shared this video w/RUclips Reactors on FB. Hope you don't mind and maybe you'll get a few more subs.
Thanks James! I appreciate you 😎🧀🤘
Perennial is way underrated/under appreciated Imo. Slept on.
I found out about Jinjer's perennial long before Spirit Box's perennial but preffer Spirit Box
Mike uses a 7 string. Rule of Nines is drop F# which is his most common tuning. Blessed Be is drop F pitch shifted down to E flat in places for the chorus, then the breakdown is pitch shifted 2.5 steps down to C. He loves his pitch shifter, Holy Roller and Constance are 2 others that come to mind that feature it. If the outro of Constance doesn't at the least give you chills you need to check your pulse!
You should check out some of their live one-takes as well. Seeing the instant (or even mid word) switching between cleans and screams hits differently when it's not just done in production.
Spiritbox is awesome! I will always suggest "The Mara Effect" live at Silverside Sound. It's a 3 part song done all together and will take you on an amazing trip. But honestly you can't go wrong.
The Best of the Best.
yaaaaaaaaaasss
Great video! Love this band. You seem intrigued by lyrics, so I would suggest looking into Silent Planet if you haven't heard of them already. Check out Trilogy, Panic Room, or Understanding Love as Loss for starters!
Strap in buddy. This band has been hot since the pandemic started
Amazing band! You should definitely check out: Circle with me, Hurt you, Constance and Holy roller. Some very interesting videos are the Courtney Lapland's one take vocals of 'rule of nines' and 'circle with me'
Yeah I had the same feeling! this screeming type reminds me to....ammmm... OK I know: Jason Aalon Buttler! He was the singer my loved band called Letlive. They were sooo cool and crazy...but they had broken up. Nowdays you can find him in Fever 333 but I don't like it as much. But it's just me of course.
And I would suggest my no.1 recording from Spiritbox wich is the The Mara effect live version. That's so impressive with full of emotions. I just cry at the last one...(It's an AP with 3 songs).
I like your chanel anyway 🙂
Thank you Johanna! I didn't like the sound of Fever333 when I first heard of them, so I didn't pursue hearing more. I will definitely check out The Mara Effect (Live). What is another song that would go nicely together?
@@Cheezyxyz You are welcome!
I know how you mean. I don't like Fever333 as well but the Letlive. was better without That vibe, you know...
Song with female singer? Let's think it over... I think you would like Dream State. I love them! The band recently changed singer so the sound has changed a little bit but they're still really nice. I prefer the older ones with CJ like White Lies - don't worry it's not that white🙂 - or Primrose, New Waves.
Maybe the Drown This City Or Kittie?
And of course Evenessence but they're pretty well known and diserved it couse they're still so goood.
I'm not that into their vocals, but the music is really good
\o/ I loved!
Thank you Beatris! 😎🧀🤘
Haven’t been able to stop listening for 2.5 years now. They’ve been ending their shows recently with a song they released last June that was part of a 3 part EP. It’s called Hysteria. I think you should try it. Other than that, I don’t think they miss. From their first song The Beauty of Suffeeing to their last EP there’s not one bad song.
Anaal Nathrakh next...
Not sure if anyone has said it but they play in drop F#
Why are you whispering?
Those are from the first "epoch" of the band... they became popular a few moths laetr and, imho, became worse... more simple and bland. From artsy-fartsy and spooky-scary, in their own words, to cool-hipster-blue haired. The bassist even run away, lol...
Fame is a btch... I expected waaay more from their first LP
