Doesn't really sound like P90's, but I like them still. There's like a similar voice to a P90, I'm guessing from the pole pieces being in the middle so they pick up the string's harmonics in a slightly different place, but they don't have that gnarly tone that P90's are known for. Kinda just sounds like a big single coil, but that's still cool.
Thanks Lucas, I’ve just had the Humbucker Legacy and the p90 humbucker size and WOW. Thanks for introducing Planet Tone in my life. Sooo much variety and quality. It makes a big difference in the sound of my guitar.
Are you using the stock Epi electronics? Just received my Bad Axe PUs, and the guitar im putting them in are running 500k and .47 oranges drops, but am thinking about putting .033 pio. Killer playing man.
Why is the singers named Alice? Thanks I have been wanting to hear these pups. Good demo, have your heard the V's. Magnets. If so how do they compare? I believe I will order a slightly lower wind for my CU24,PRS. Thanks again.
That is my favorite Cooper record too! I haven't tried the A5 mags in these, but in my experience it is going to be tighter on the bottom and a little more zing on the top end with A5's. Also probably a little more output on the same wind. I bet this A2 mag would sound really good in a 24 fret neck position because it is naturally warm and buttery and the 24 fret neck position would brighten it up a little.
Sweet Jane - Lou Reed? I was wanting HB-sized P90s in a 2013 Epi Dot. Which model/magnet type/etc. would you recommend for a semi-hollow? Or would you go with a different HB-sized P90 set?
Recently put one of these in the neck position on a 3 pup Backlund Rockerbox. The original bucker was kinda darker than I liked. It is so good I just ordered another one for the bridge and will leave the original bucker at the middle position. I also added a master volume with treble bleed to that one. A few years ago I got a 3 pup set of Supreme AlNiCo II's for a partscaster build. Very sweet, mellower tone and lower output than the AlNiCo V sound. Have to turn amp up a bit more but silky and clean.
Followup to above: Installed the bridge P 90 PUP that came in the mail today in my Rockerbox. All I can say is Awesome! She has a whole new voice and I love it. My only disappointment is I don't have another guitar that needs a set of P 90's.
Did you happen to sell this guitar? I just picked up a 50s gold top with these pickups in it and found your video looking for these pickups. really love the tone these put out though and great review man!
Be my lover !!!! Oh and I thought I was hearing welcome to my nightmare when you were strumming on clean too . At least the first strummed chord was reminiscent of it ! Awesome pups !!!
Lucas Fowler I’m a huge fan of Alice Cooper ! Especially the original “Alice Cooper Group” . Killers was an amazing album !!! This year actually marks 50 years .
Thanks a ton for this one, Lucas! Answered my question totally on which PT P90s to use in my LP Special project. Really love these. Excellent demo/review, as usual!
Going to be buying a pair of these humbucker P90 pickups with 56 coils. They can do these unpotted, which is awesome to hear. Really give it a vintage vibe!
These would be the A5 mag models. I also have a set of the A2's and they're excellent as well, but a bit less "tight" in the bottom. A2's are a little softer and sweeter sounding.
These pups sound great. Definitely going to put humbucker-sized P90s in my Epi Les Paul. Just need to decide which ones. The Planet Tone pickups are on my short list.
I have a 2008 SE SC Trem I'm thinking of throwing P-Rails in. These sound good, but not quite the P-90 tone I prefer, maybe V would work for me rather than II. But I normally like II in some pups. So many great choices so few guitars.
@@jimmyjames2022 Definitely the A5 mag would make these a little more "brash" and "rude" sounding. If you're after the P90 snarl sound, I'd go that route :) P-Rails also sound great, especially in the parallel humbucking mode!
I haven't, I'm going to try to get on top of that soon. Jose has been very busy making pickups for all of the folks that decided to work on their guitars during the pandemic!
I got the ThroBak pro-90 HB bridge and replaced the SD PHAT CAT.i had in my LP classic. The ThroBak sounds like a true p90 with a smooth and even EQ.The PHAT CAT sounds more like a fender single coil, similar to this pickup. While unique and arguably sounds good, p90s don't have that icy high end and have more growl.
Yeah Iwas gonna say these don’t sound like a flatter response p90, although alnico 2’s have that sort of dark mid and lifted high end sparkle so it might be that too . It does sound like an improved and more midforward humbucker. I kinda like it . I also went away from humbuckers because they all had a spikey top end and hollow mids which made it hard to eq right . I’m looking into p90 humbuckers like the fralin and dark sand. Fralin a use alnico 4 which may be too flat for my taste , dark sand have alnico v I believe which would be closer to gibson p90s. I wonder though if the larger p90 humbucker sized pups have a tendency to sound brighter than normal sized p90s, I don’t really want ice pickness but do like a top end spank like some alnico v p90s.
Oh good question, I'll ask the man himself. Also I will shoot them out with a bluesbucker set if I can find where I put those...I have a pair somewhere hahaha
I'd rock that guitar & pups all day long ! Nice look'n and sounds great to me, even thru these crappy ear buds :-) Let's hope Planet Tone can last as long as Epiphone. Epiphone has been in business for 147 years. "Wow" 29 years longer then Gibson. If not for guy's like, Lloyd Loar, Ted McCarty and Seth Lover, Epiphone might be the "cork sniffer" BRAND instead of Gibson today.

Sounds like a thick, very compressed Tele pick up. Love it.
Awesome Lucas.
I've been waiting to hear these pickups.
Thank You Sir.

It definitely had a Tele twang to it! I couldn't put my finger on it until you said that.

I've got Planet Tone's 1956 HB sized P90 in the neck and their 1951 tele bridge pickup in my tele. Jose does a great job. Thanks for the video.
Nice combo! I love that 1951 pickup in my Tele, it's so punchy :)
Great demo. Did you swap out your pots when you switched over to the p90s?
Those dound great. Are they noisy?

I traded it to a friend, who eventually sold it, so it's a good possibility you got _this_ guitar :P
4.09 Alice Cooper 🤟 That sounds really sweet . Nice tones all 'round Lucas 👍
You got it! And thank you :)
that bridge is killer !!

I love classic Alice Cooper :)
Lucas Fowler I’m a huge fan of Alice Cooper ! Especially the original “Alice Cooper Group” . Killers was an amazing album !!! This year actually marks 50 years .
I love the middle position, I didn't like the clean sounds but as soon as you added some gain they sounded great!
That mid-gain sound with these pickups is so satisfying!
Thanks a ton for this one, Lucas! Answered my question totally on which PT P90s to use in my LP Special project. Really love these. Excellent demo/review, as usual!
Glad to help!

Amazing tone
This is a5 magnet ?
Thank you Mr. Fowler.
Do you remember if you got the Alnico II or V option? About to pick these up.

Lucas, you sealed the deal for me.

I've got some P90's I'm going to put in a PRS SE custom from 2005. I'm just waiting on some new glasses so I can see what I'm doing lol

I’m also looking to throw p90s in my PRS SE. Leaning toward Mojotone humbucker p90
Awesome playing and great tones as always Lucas!
Thank you!
What is the difference in sound between an Alnico V and II?
Sound fantastic. Have you any experience with the 1956 models? Theres no video demos of them on RUclips, far as I can tell.

I had a legend amp once. I miss it
Can you play anything clear, most pickups can distorte
What size are the bobbins? Are they normal P-90 sized or larger since the case accomodates it? Inquiring minds want to know.
Oh good question, I'll ask the man himself.

Just got a tele with this set up
nice rush riffage
What the hell I was planning on doing the exact same mod on my exact same Epiphone 2020 50s standard goldtop?!
pots are 250 or 500? TY
These are the stock 500k pots.
I heard Alice Cooper and Rush
Yeah , the Rush track , from Caress Of Steel ?
"2112" and later "What You're Doing" from the first record :)
@@LucasFowler Oh well , I knew it was Rush ☺️
Are these wax potted?
All of Planet Tone's stuff is wax potted by default, but he will not pot them by request.
Sounds great, nit a huge fan of how HB size p90’s look on certain guitars.
2112😍
