Just discovered this unbelievable talent recently, after hanging on for years to peter Molvoer, Eric Truffaz, Ibrahim Malouf and Roy Hardgroove....It's really a gem...
Thanks for some new recommendations. If trumpet i can recommend Takuya Kuroda, not the same style as Christian but worth a listen (my favorite album is rising son). But if it comes to modern jazz i love everything Youssef dayes touches, a brilliant drummer, start with love is the message live at Abbey road, than duality.
CHRISTIAN SCOTT (tp), Sarah Elizabeth Charles (voc), Elena Pinderhughes (flute), Braxton Cook (a sax), Lawrence Fields (p), Kris Funn (b) and Corey Fonville/Joe Dyson (d) in 2016.
from an article on soulbounce : Then we hear featured vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles haunting voice as she sings, "We bow to the chief / And to the queen / We bow to worship freely / In everything." From there, flute and horn - provided by Elena, Christian and saxophonist Braxton Cook - take over, mixing and mingling over the dusky soundbed. Occasionally, Sarah's chorus comes back into the mix and other times she scats as the instruments play, but the star of the show here is really the crew's ability to maintain the mood of the song, balancing what some would consider somber with a calming, soothing feel.
