- In this video, we add another, smaller industry between the big warehouse and where the power plant scene will eventually begin. For this purpose, I chose the Downtown Deco kit "Downtown Alley Flat." I built it mostly stock, but added some LED lighting, and reversed the order of some of the buildings. Old Track was removed that was set up for the old layout's alignment, and I extended the industrial lead, installed the turnout and the spur to the new industry. Lastly we give it a test run!
Those are some good looking kits…awesome build John…the added lighting makes the build stand out…
Thanks Anthony! Now I feel like I need to go back and add lighting to some other builds…
Nice to have you back into play rotation.
Thanks Eric. Hope you’re cars are all fixed up and you’re doing some modeling as well!
You can't go wrong with the D.D. kits. Instant character to a layout or diorama. I like what you have done with the kit and the lighting adds a lot to it. Nice update.
I appreciate that. These hydrocal kits just make for the best brick structures - The way they take paint. I have a whole bunch of them from another manufacturer - Ed Fulasz- I’ll start to get into soon!
Nice I'll look out for those builds. Do they have them in O scale?@@johnarthur6302
Looking really great. I was noticing the weathering on all your track as I was doing some painting tonight.
Good to see you are already able to run trains. The scenery is looking really incredible.
Thanks Heath - I’m starting to press on to connect the main over to the creek. From the other end of the creek it is directly into staging and I will be able to really run then!
THANK YOU FOR SUPER DETAIL VIDEO ON YOUR LAYOUT BUILD
Thanks for watching, Robert. Glad you enjoyed.
Looking good as always. Lights are a pain, but they help add to scene for sure.
Thanks - I think LEDs make it easier, but still a bit of work. I think it’s worth it though!
Very nice John, the lights really are a nice upgrade. Good progress.

Thanks Scott! for this and several other projects in HO scale lately, I am now the proud of owner of a pair of magnifying readers!
Welcome to the club my friend!
Great update and layout coming on well. Take care Kevin
Thanks Kevin!
Nice update John. I really like the store backs. Hope to see you at Timonium.
I’ll be there in a month my friend! Thanks for watching, and safe travels!
Happy Tuesday
I'm late by a day!
Looks great John!
Thanks Dennis!
Good Job
Thank you!
Hi John, nice update, really like Big John's warehouse (Who made that kit?) and the new DT Deco flat! Might consider adding a fake back and roof to the Alley Flat to give it some depth, even an inch or 2 helps remove the "2D" look of an actual flat. Either way, it looks good and another car spot is always a good thing! - Thanks! - Paul
Thanks Paul. There just isn’t room for anything but a 2D flat here. It’s kind of a space filler between the large warehouse (big John’s) and some open terrain before a power plant. Big John’s is actually 3 downtown deco castings, one from front street flat and two more I purchased, attached end to end, with a side piece and roof detail from the DD kit “front street flat”
The windows and fire escapes are from Tichy, the vent going up the side is from Rail Scale models and I scratchbuilt the loading dock from pink insulation foam. The LED gooseneck lights were bought on ebay.
@@johnarthur6302Very nice! I did something similar with several ITLA kits to build a long, low warehouse structure.
For operation purposes you my want to vonnect that long siding back into the main down there where your working. Just a suggestion.
Sll looks good.
Thanks Bob. That is definitely the plan, just a little further down!
that sure is a fine kit, with lots of loading docks. Looks really great with the lights too. I am not sure though about the loading dock outside M Stackworth, it seems to come high compared to your boxcars ? anyway well done !
Thanks for the comment - I believe it was intended for track on cork roadbed, however I don’t use cork roadbed on industrial trackage. It seemed like it would have taken too much work/risk to file the building down from the bottom, so I just left it as is. Hopefully most won’t notice!
Looks great John! I like the lamp lights on the small industries. The backdrop trees look very nice! Where did you get that backdrop?
Thank you! The photo backdrops are from Trackside Scenery - I highly recommend them if you are in the market for one.
Layout is coming along nicely. You are doing really good work. Question what is the source for the background behind everything in the yard?
Thank you, I appreciate that! The photo backdrop is from trackside scenery. I highly recommend them if you are in the market for one.
Good update, John. Is it me or does the loading dock look a bit high for the railcars? The kit looks great.
Thank you - no it’s not you. The kit seems to have been designed for the spur track to be up on roadbed, and mine is not. I considered filing the bottom of the stackworth piece down but decided to just live with it. By the time I realized, I was pretty far along in the build. Hoping most don’t notice as it way back off the aisle! Good eye.
Nice update John. Is the new flat update a plaster kit? I have a name for my new fiddle yard. John A Yard. It's inspired by a video of yours. 😅 Mike DRRR
Hi Mike - yes it’s a downtown deco hydrocal kit. John A yard, now this I’ve got to see!
