John from England Exceptional piece of video, others should watch to see how it should be done. I replaced the inlet manifold on my SLK 280 using only your video, my faith was well justified! Many thanks and keep up the good work.
This is MOST COMPREHENSIVE STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL. I have replaced mine three time. Best to buy aftermarket so you get aluminum flappers vs plastics. Anyone doing this job needs this video as you have the best steps and you showed all of them. NO guessing. THANK YOU. Im gonna post this video in the Mercedes R350 forum. This job applies to all those M272 engines for sure.
Great video! I just got done with my lever replacement fix. I would recommend for people doing this job to buy replacement vacuum hose. I found many of mine deteriorated (2008 c300). An added note : slice the hose with a razor blade longitudinally at the nipple of the map sensor. I guess over time, the plastic map senor nipple gets weak. When I was pulling on the vacuum hose, the nipple tore off. (new map senor = $54.00).

Great workflow, i'm sure a mechanic shop will try to charge me 4 hours for this job and the dealer would charge 20. I think I can do it myself after watching this vid. My intake manifold is making a high pitch whistle noise in the front area. Does this mean I need a whole new manifold or is it likely one of those rubber/plastic hoses that sit in the front? Also was curious why you did not unplug the ecu? Lastly (sorry for all the questions) I was considering going with the chinese made intake manifold for 1 beacuse its cheap but also because it has aluminum flapper arms instead of the plastic ones that break... would you recommend I stay with the oem for this sort of a part or would a chinese made manifold be sufficient?

No fluke. The car will run fine without the variable function of the intake runners. You'll just loose the benefits of having a short or long runner setting for optimal air flow given the throttle input. The real danger is the internal runner flap plastic crap breaking off & damaging the valves, & the codes may not show at all before that happens.
This was a very helpful video but I found that attaching the throttle body to the manifold before installing to be easier than attaching it when the manifold was installed

What is the logic behind your hypothesis? Carbon buildup causes resistance that causes pieces to break. How would putting metal arms instead of plastic change anything other than durability?
@@Verbalism allegedly the plastic crap on the front was made out of plastic so it would be a weak point, ensuring they would break before the internal plastic crap flaps/runners. Perhaps aftermarket metal piece on a new manifold is nice (if pcv system is kept functional). bill beckett I am flat rate and it definitely adds a little time to film these videos. I do make a little money from RUclips and from affiliate links that makes up the difference in time lost .You could possibly use some 3M super whether adhesive to hold the gaskets in place.
I found this video very helpful but one comment I would like to make is that you say you use washing up liquid to put the injector seal in this is a bad idea as the soap contains salt which is a corrosive, may I suggest using WD40 or Dielectric grease, just a thought.
jagvette1 I was unaware of the salt being in the soup. The dielectric grease is a good one but I’m not sure of the WD-40 could possibly make the seal swell.
I did a little more research and the opinion is the salt is the non-corrosive type, by I would avoid it, each to their own, in one respect the idea that WD40 may make the seals expand might ! not be bad and make a better seal. (just a thought), but one again love your videos.

Nope… the problem is it’s held on by one center torque screw, located right behind the thermostat housing. There’s no room to remove the screw until you lift the manifold up.
Jus wondering.. you went through the trouble of taking out the down elbow (snorkel) and throttle body and yet, you didn't clean it. 16:00 shows you install the snorkel still has all the oil stain on it. This won't do any good as this will pour back into the new air intake and gumming it again. Perhaps you may be of service for your clients by cleaning that piece or put a hour or so to do it. I am sure your clients will be more than happy to pay you for it than having the new air intake start gumming up right away.
What's the symtoms of a bad intake manifold. I lost power in acceleration and I got a diagnostic that state it could be the trottle pedal or electrical problem.
