Really?? Checking now.....UNREAL! You are correct my friend, the mystery is solved!! So apparently not only did NECA pack them in the wrong spots, but they also screwed it up in pictures on the back of the box! Unbelievable!!
If you pop their heads off, they have their initials embedded underneath right above the peg hole. Raph is 2nd from the left in the group shot though because his shell is more beat up and he looks meaner... but I guess the best part of this set is you've got 4 interchangeable expressions to work with as the heads fit on each of the bodies. Great review! Thanks for putting it up!
No problem and thanks! I was just reading that someone said the same thing about the letters in the heads, so apparently NECA messed up the packing order AND the photos on the back, LOL!
I’ve read the comics as a kid. And i can nearly guarantee you guys the one with evil smile is raph. In the comics it was kinda his this thing. He always had this evil smile when he fought the foot clan or really anyone in the comics, him and Leo actually. Mikey who was still fun loving in the comics for the most part, when he fought? Maaannn Mikey was about the BUSINESS! i encourage everyone to check out TmnT book 1-4. Incredible reads incredible art. You’ll all enjoy it
Thanks for checking out the vid! As far as who's who, we finally got some evidence. Come to find out the turtles have letters imprinted inside the head sculpts that correspond with their initials. So the turtle with the "R" head is the one with the scowl and the extra scratched up shell body. Despite the packaging placement and mixed up pictures on the back of the box. At the end of the day all the parts are interchangeable it seems, so any face will fit on any body, it was an interesting and fun debate though! Regarding the comics, I'm definitely going to go back and check these out. This art style and take on the turtles really interests me... funny how new modern figures done well can make someone want to go back and read comics from 20-30 years ago, LOL!
@@datamag2018 oh cool! That is interesting! I’ll be receiving mine soon! Have you tried removing there heads?? Is it possible? I know you said all parts are interchangeable but i feel nervous doing it 😂
@@theviper28111 Yeah so I just ran the neck/heads under hot water from the tap and the heads popped right off. It's a stationary neck with double ball peg so yeah any head can go to any turtle. Not sure about the extra arm though, but I believe I seen another reviewer do it. I get it though, NECA has been better lately but they were notorious for breakage problems even just a few years ago....
These are based off the Mirage TMNT comics 19-21, called “Return to New York”. Raphael goes back to New York by himself with that hood and the arm band you see. Which is the cover to issue 19. These comics also had the other recent Mirage figures. Triceraton and the clone Shredders. That’s Shredder’s body floating on the raft in the interior art. Kevin Eastman did the pencil layouts, and Jim Lawson redrew those.
Glad to get that fact confirmed since I'm from New York city and live 10 minutes away from Chelsea piers which faces the Hudson River and across the river is New Jersey. The statue of liberty stands to my left side of my area
And Raph is the one that has the beat up front shell. Makes sense because Raph is always the one that goes head in first to every fight without thinking hence him getting roughed up more.
Even though the reasoning makes sense there are lots of contradicting evidence, including pics on the back of the package that suggest otherwise... It's a bit of a mystery at this point!
Unfortunately, I get it. TBH I was only going to check my local Targets (I have 4 in 15-20 min distance). If I didn't score it I was going to either chalk it up as a loss or see what my toy hunt groups could find. I'm done going to 8-10 stores and spending whole days hunting for stupid exclusives. Raph is actually the second from the left -- he's "dirtier" because he's more "rough N tumble." The extra arm with the bandage is for him, and will help differentiate.

@@datamag2018 I was thinking about getting this set, I just have so many good turtles already, but we’ll see haha. I’m glad you’re enjoying them though.
Funny part is, I had given up on getting NECA TMNT stuff because of the scarcity when they first came out. I had sold my 2 packs of turtle/bad guy cartoon sets. Yeah its definitely weird, many people that I have interacted with are sure that the more scratched one is Raph. I'd be inclined to believe that except for the evidence that is present. It's definitely a noteworthy set.
