One year later from my post here and still riding the Ninja 250. I have put on some weight and the Ninja still pulls me great. I added some heated grips, put on some Kenda 671's tires and a 15 tooth front sprocket. I am averaging 50-55 mpg and still love riding it. My 250 is a 2002 model. I paid $1000 dollars for it with only 2k miles on it. A year later and I have 6k on it. No regrets. I went from riding Gold Wings to the baby ninja. Life is funny.
When i undertook the safety course in Australia they told us to use the kill switch to turn the bike off. Using the kill switch does the exact same thing as turning the key to the off position and will not harm your bike at all if you use it instead of the turning the key off.
i have this bike!!!! i dropped it once and im glad i didnt get a new bike or a bike with more power... good beginning bike... im 5'0 and i had it lowered by mechanic and i fucken love this bike!!! mine was $3000 .. with 1700 miles.. 5k miles later.. still working great
that red cut off switch is for emergencies only and will hurt your engine if you use it too much. just switch the key to the off position when ur done riding
hey i just picked up a 2009 250r, and i never rode b4 ever. ive owned civic si's and thought that would help. its not the same. the ninja likes to shift less often starting off. even just creeping. just stay in 1st and 2nd and weave around. practice just walking it around too.
What a heck of a job showing the features of your new 250R. I was considering buying this bike because I am a new rider. Your post has definitely provided me with all the insight I need...once again, excellent post.
i have this bike!!!! i dropped it once and im glad i didnt get a new bike or a bike with more power... good beginning bike... im 5'0 and i had it lowered by mechanic and i fucken love this bike!!!
To all the euro buyers out there one reason you pay more is because you get the FI (fuel injected) bike. In Canada and us they are carborated which is cheaper.
there is NO difference between the 08 and 09 Ninja 250r. the only thing is the 09 offers a special edition color scheme. you won't be disappointed with this bike
always give it som throttle while staring.. not much at all.! just so the gass "touches/ just grabbing.." gives good starting results at all times.. :)
How come these bikes are so much cheaper in the US? Been after a near 1k price drop the ninja is like $6k+...I paid 4,100 for a 2008....they come from the same damn factory! Maybe you can import them...I could get a new one from the states including shipping for less than one with thousands of k's on the clock
Where are you located in MN? I'm in Brooklyn Center. I'm thinking about picking up the same bike sometime in the near future. They really are built well for a first bike and the price/resale value are really great also.
yes. the US dollar is greater than other country. but, after i google the price of this bike in US, i found that it is about $3499. but, after converting the price in my country to US dollar, the price turn to be about &5700. tax in my country is damn high.
in my msf here in the US they did the same thing. I just said that based on what I've read on forums. Better safe than sorry even if doesn't do any harm.
hey gettinginutube, your video is pretty popular now. I was probably one of the first 100 view over a year ago. Anyways you still have that bike? I haven't seen any new videos from you lately
great vid. a review from someone not endorsed. the best 250r vid i've seen anywhere on youtube. I have both an RC51 and an old CBR600f2, but i still want one of these to tear up on the back roads here and to commute on. i rarely ride my RC to work and only have the F2 for track use. My desire to ride to work is almost diminished, but if i had one of these new 250's i'd ride to work often burn less gas and basically have a bike in the end for cheap. good luck. this truely is the best review here.
That's surely the best review about the Ninja 250R 2008 I've seen. Thank you so much. It's really helpful for all the people (including me) who want to buy this motorcycle.
thanx ive been studying the hell out of which bike should be first and i just keep coming bak to the 250... i really see myself riding this and learning. thanx again
Also, in the manual it says to shut the choke off after it idles for a short time. The kill switch (red thing on the throttle handlebar) is for an emergency when the throttle is stuck open and you can't stop it.
Sweeeet Ride bro! Thanks for the indepth review, you gave me the info I needed to make up my mind about this bike. Imma get me a black one =P Ride safe!
god dammit!!sexy bike....im about to buy it end of this month...this video had step up my spirit to have it...great dude...i will choose this colour....green is what??its GOOD....hehe....
It really depends on the situation. Switch gears at lower RPM when cruising, and let it go into the higher RPMs when you want to accelerate more. This will save gas, keep it quiet, and reduce vibrations.
Im joining the military soon and i plan on getting this bike bike i cant find a decent answer to whether you can make long road trips on it, i.e MI to SC and back type of trips?
Hey, your im thinknig about getting a ninja too, im 5'5/ 5'6. do you think i'll be able to touch the ground with my 2 feet properly or would i be tippy toeing
Great video! Wife has a 2003, friend has a 2004.. and I want the green 2008... so I am totally sold now.. thanks for taking the time to put together this video.. price and all. John C
@BryanDavison hey thanks alot for the info man i am pretty much the same body type as you 6'2 185 lbs and i was still in doubt tht this bije would be good for me. thanks again
Thanks for the video. It showed a lot of details that were hard to make out or are not shown in promotional pics and videos. If I could make a request, I would like to see a close up of the front and rear brakes and the front and rear supension.
thanks for the vid! good choice for a beginner- i started on a cbr600rr few years back and almost killed myself the first day.. but thanks for the info.. i wanna get this bike for my daily errands.. but im curious though, what is or are the things you dont like about this bike?
A note about the choke from another site: When the motorcycle engine is cold, the use of the choke facilitates the start up and warming of the engine allowing a richer mix (more fuel) to enter the engine. Explanation: when opening the "choke" in reality you are closing (choking) the air intake thus changing the proportion of the mixture that reaches the engine, making it a lot richer to allow an easy start. ... Cont.
Agree. I can live with a black ninja - but prefer a green. I just think the 250r is too small.. It dosen't sound very well in my ears, so I think i will wait until I can buy a Kawasaki Ninja 900
hi just got my ninja 250 the workshop men advised me to keep below 4000 rpm till 1000 km .... vat is this, is it true ... and y - 1000km ????? too much i have just done 70 km .....
I've already ordered mine but I live in Greece and it's not coming out till late March. It should be just like yours but with an fuel injection system instead of a carb. I'll be sure to post some videos too! Great bike man! ;)
Awesome video man. I went out and bought one today, in Lime of course. lol. 3831.81 out the door, can't go wrong with that at all. Peace man, I think you should do another review of the same bike and go through how to shift up and down for all the newbies like me... Awesome man. THanks.
great video hope u will post more video on this bike...im gonna get a 250r too when i get my license ,in black. a question, u said u never rode a bike before and just bought it... u don't need to have a license to buy it ?
hey man.. i'm getting this same exact bike.. it's on the way and should be coming in within the next couple weeks. hope it's warm enough to ride it home (I live in minnesota too!) i bought the 07 model brand new last june from the dealer in Little Falls, MN.. they had the best deal out of all the dealers i'd been to. i checked out at least 10 dealers in minnesota. I live waay up north about 10 miles from canada... have fun riding
Continued... As more gas is entering the engine more wear and tear is generated by the gas washing away the oil in the cylinder walls. Is very important that you use your choke "the minimum time possible", as the extended use of the choke will damage the longevity of your engine. Usually a couple of minutes with the choke on is all you need, then just wait till your engine warms up thoroughly and you are ready for riding.
Your Videos are awesome and i see you help other people to know more about the bike.. soo i am requesting to get a video comparing other bike like 600cc and 1000cc bikes.. wanted to know how big is the bike... Wanted to see other bike with ninja 250r to make out its size.... Your this video is best of all giving almost all information about the bike.. Thanks in Advance.. i hope u get video as i requested. Thank you.
Very good review video! i really enjoyed it! how long did it take you to get your motorcycle license and was it easy?? i am going to be a first time rider too and i was wondering if you could answer the questions for me id really appreciate it! once again great review video.. its convinced me that this is the bike for me to start out with!
straight up man, thanks for the video. I'm actually in the process of getting my 08' 250 Ninja. I've been talking with the dealer and about to go in and finalize the deal. question though, i'm 5'11, 220lbs. You think it'll just be able to 'easily' move like you were saying for you since I am a bit biggeR? :P
def a good vid i wasn't going to get one until i was just looking online and realized they completely changed this bike from last year it is april and i called 7 places that were sold out i was lucky enough to get one only 70 miles away and my buddy got the other one which were the last two they had and the last in a pretty big radius im guessing looking forward to riding it this weekend def a good vid though thanks
i'm going to be getting my licence probably next year and considering this as a first bike. now that you've driven it a bit how easy do you find it to ride?
top vid man ! amzing ! bikes neat ! im from india still waitin for this bike to b launched here ! couldnt wait coz dint have a bike so bought myself a 220cc instead neways have a question for u can find out wats the price for the fuel injected one ?? and the power of tht bike ?? thanks man ! good vid ! break her in and then post a vid of u doin the top speed and accelaration figs thts watt i need man thanks !
great video man...thanks a lot...im getting my 250 very soon...they sell out so quickly where i go so it's real hard for me to get one...or even see one...
great walk around and everything! i was just at hp in hopkins and they wanted to sit on one but they didn't have any on display. I don't think you should use the kill switch. if you read through the manual it's only in emergency situations. overall great bike and ride safe!
Thanks for the videos man. I checked out AreaP exhausts and they look good! I'm glad you recommended them. I'm over in WI and hah yeah, damn snow... Would be driving around a bike now if it wasn't for the ice and cold :(
Nice after market parts, but my STOCk 09 Ninja 250R goes 104mph, thats the fastest I have gone on mine ! With those after-market parts he could probably do at least 110mph, if not a little bit more
excellent post. i was looking for something just like this. i'm looking to get one of these myself. excellent bike from what i've seen so far. still a little out of my price range here in australia. gotta start saving. =P

Thanks man just what i needed to see! most the time you dont get what you want to see from the dealer websites and you nailed it. Thanks a bunch.

I'm getting one. Hands down. It'll be my first motor vehicle.

I just bought the same one today!!!! It's awesome. It's faster then people presume.
The only people who claim it's slow. Is from the perspective of people riding 600's or higher.
A bit long, but cool little intro to the bike for newbies like me who don't know anything about bikes. Thanks for posting
It helps warm the bike up when it's cold by increasing the idle speed.
The shut-off switch on the right handle bar is an emergency shutoff switch so you can turn the bike off without taking your hand off the handlebars
I live in Minnesota also and I am hoping to get this exact bike!
It cuts off some of the air to the engine, richening the fuel/air mixture. Helps you with cold starts.
Great video. Let's hear a 15 month update!
What a heck of a job showing the features of your new 250R. I was considering buying this bike because I am a new rider. Your post has definitely provided me with all the insight I need...once again, excellent post.

great video man, how difficult was it to find it in green?
Nice vid man, a lot of inputs.
i thinking of buying of these, im also a beginner 5,4 155 lbs 17 yrs, Sik video love the bike!!
dude awesome review! I am planning to get one too. Any bad things about the bike? Keep up the good work.
Congratulations for such a nice bike.
i love this bike..
but the price in my country is almost double as yours. huhu...
i really want to have this bike

you change gears to match engine speed. normally you'd hit 2nd at 10-20 mph depends on acceleration. that's only for this bike of course it varies
How come these bikes are so much cheaper in the US? Been after a near 1k price drop the ninja is like $6k+...I paid 4,100 for a 2008....they come from the same damn factory! man :( i wish i was in the US sometimes... these bikes are so great, but they are like double the price in australia. :(

I'm getting mine these days... been waiting for it for almost half a year now... awsome vids dude!
i like ur revew dude really well done
Im joining the military soon and i plan on getting this bike bike i cant find a decent answer to whether you can make long road trips on it, i.e MI to SC and back type of trips?
have you changed the tyres yet? cuz on the 2008 250r's the stock tyres are pritty terrible.
Hey, your im thinknig about getting a ninja too, im 5'5/ 5'6. do you think i'll be able to touch the ground with my 2 feet properly or would i be tippy toeing

We really appreciate the video man. Nice overview without a whole bunch of ridiculous music.
whats the tailpiece at the back for?
excellent post. i was looking for something just like this. i'm looking to get one of these myself. excellent bike from what i've seen so far. still a little out of my price range here in australia. gotta start saving. =P
