LYRIC TRANS: Ever since a long time ago up until this time, us Hmong have always used all our strength to escape war. Because of the fact that 40 years ago the Americans arrived and asked us to use our strength and energy to fight with them in the war. If we did, they would pull us each one by one to lead and become leaders. Because of the fact that us Hmong were poor and wanting, the oldest, the youngest, the smartest, the dumbest carried their own guns. On day 1, [they] went to the fields to practice (test) their guns. Shots, loud [imitating gun sounds]…???...so loud like they’ve never heard before, [their] ears became deaf. [They] learned (practiced) for one weekend and [they] actually became good and could shoot straight. The Americans said, “Wake up early tomorrow and prepare to go fight the enemy.” When [they] reached [returned] home, [their] mothers and fathers had already prepared offerings and chickens to speak blessings and tie hands [with white strings]. They said, “Son, if you disappear because of the ways of war and destruction, please know and remember that your place of sleep and your house [home], it will still remain right here. If [we] don’t see you return, just show up in our dreams and that will suffice (be enough), ok?” The ones that had wife and children, they said, “Dear Mai Paj, please don’t stay and wait for me anymore, ok? Because at this time,…???...about to go with (Leader) General Vang Pao to fight the war. [I] don’t know if in this lifetime [I] will have the luck/fate to return and be with you (by your side). Back when we first arrived, [we] did help and love [each other], smiling (laughing) every day and (playing) ball every day. Because of the fact that black people started trouble, us Hmong started a gang to beat up (take vengeance on) blacks, Hispanics, and whites. That gang had a name called Peace MOD. Don’t know why afterwards, it broke up into three groups: so there was Ruthless, so there was AC, so there was MOD [don’t know if I got the names right]. Because of this, [we] began to see child (youth) gangsters …???... fight (vicious hatred on) each other at the tournaments. Back then, [Hmong] mothers and fathers were fobby and followed strict cultural rules/stigmas. [Hmong] daughters wanted to do things but [mothers and fathers] wouldn’t let and they wouldn’t allow. Our daughters, therefore, carried (developed) a (rebellious) mindset; they would jump out the windows when it was night. Mothers and fathers didn’t like this (behavior) so they forced them to marry others’ sons. When you think (reflect) about it (later), lives were broken because of taking flight (rebellion?). Because at that time, we (our brains?) were still young and we (our brains?) were still pure. ????...[we were just kids] just 14, 15, 16, at the most, probably just 17. But at this time, us Hmong have changed a lot. We are not like we were back then. The ones that have completed (becoming) doctors and lawyers, [we] do have. The ones that have money and riches, …???... and have become addicted to drugs and medicine, [we] do have. The ones that don’t do anything, laughing, on (using) SSI all the time, [we] do have. hmoobmeeka can’t say the kids now and days can’t speak Hmong, when Hmong people can’t live together. Hmong people can’t even go anywhere without see each other and trying to kill one another. Why don’t you do your part and teach our newer generation, how to speak Hmong. Oh wait you can’t because your just like any older Hmong person, who just talks shit and speaks down on the newer generation, without trying to make a difference.

This song honestly made me SO EMOTIONAL. Thank you for conveying our history so well. I want to translate this for my younger siblings and cousins who can’t understand.
this song makes me cry ... im the oldest of my cousins on my mom's side and i can greatly see our culture disappearing and they dont know the history of our hmong people . i have a son and i want to teach him our history and culture especially since our grandparents went through it all
Wow! Bro...I’m speechless. I’m 38 years old and I’ve been through it all...no hmoob artist has ever made me turn my head so mad props to you bro You got my attention and support. #hmongpride
I don't speak the language, but I could tell the passion behind the lyrics and I vibed heavily with it. I really liked the beat and the flow, I just wish I could fully appreciate the song by knowing the lyrics.
Not the full lyrics I've tried to capture the essence of it here: “Since the beginning of time we Hmong have always known war. It’s been 40 years since the Americans came and recruited us to fight in the war. If we did, they promised a better life for us all. Because we Hmong were poor and desparate, the old, the young, the sharp and the ignorant each carried a rifle for the cause. Soon after we became soldiers the Americans said, Wake up early tomorrow and prepare to fight the enemy. Back at home, parents prayed, sent us off and said, Son wherever you go, remember that your bed and home are still here; if we don’t see you return then at least visit us in our dreams and that’ll be enough… Husbands told their wives, Please don’t wait for me; the country is at war; I don’t know if in this lifetime I will be lucky enough to see you again; if you don’t see me return then please take the children and leave… War is hell, so many of us died fighting but we got those bastards too. Then the Americans left, abandoned our people who nearly got wiped out, until we crossed the Mekong to Thailand, following the General to the US. When we first arrived we were a tight knit community, but our children were bullied by the blacks, mexicans and whites, so then we formed a gang to protect each other. They went by the name Peace MOB, but then somehow they splintered into three groups; that’s when you started seeing Hmong fighting each other… Back then our parents were very backwards, they did not give our sisters any freedom; when the girls snuck out at night to hang out with boys, their parents felt disgraced and forced them to marry. But these marriages just ruined the lives of our youth barely 14, 15, 16, at most 17 years old. But now we Hmong have changed much compared to the past. Those with doctorates and who are lawyers, we’ve got them. Those who’ve made a lot of money pushing drugs - we got those too. Those who don't do anything and just live off government assistance - got those. Gangsters who gon’ keep thugging til the day they die in jail - got those too. Those working in the US for the government - got those too. Brothers and sisters, let's leave behind the hard times of the past 40 years. Don’t despair, shed your tears. My name is Shong. This is a true story about us Hmong.”
Damn🔥🔥🔥 Shong Lee tearing it up again. Love it that his music isn’t always about drugs, money, women, and violence. Always a story that anyone young and old can relate to. Keep it going bro. Hard not to support your music.
I got to see him LIVE in MN during the 2019 J4 tourney. I was at the concert on Friday for Dang Thao and friends as well as Saturday for Shong and Sudden Rush. That's like 15+ acts on stage. Dude was hands down the LIVEST PERFORMANCE of them all. His confident intensity and stage presence held the attention of everybody in the venue while he was performing, but I was most impressed by the fact that dude can really rap that fast LIVE while covering the entire stage and anunciate every single word for you to hear. He must run alot. =D Come to NC New Year, bro! We'd love to have you! Much love!

Your music inspire me. Because of our Hmong’s past in the war, I enlisted in the US Army. As enlisted in the military I’m going to college to become a cop. I not only want to serve our new country but my community as well. I’m only 19 fresh out of high school. I’m not doing it for anyone but myself.
I usually don’t listen to rap and it’s definitely not the kind of music to make me cry. I came upon this by accident and it made me cry. What a great illustration of our history. Good job.
Omg Shong, I love your music, the lyric, the flow, the voice, the delivery, man everything about it! I thank you for this brief and sad but yet inspiring song and history behind it. You sir are very talented and very passionate toward your music. Keep up the good work brother. Hmong always. Wish you the best and you will always have a supporter no matter what! 👍
Im so sad of how much these artist speak the realistic of Hmong in their song but it dont seem to teach our Hmong people enough to rethink about their action! Its upsetting to see our Hmong people continue killing their own kind and yet it cant seem to sink into people head that we have struggle long enough. RIP BROTHER XYY LEE
All I know is there are still good people out there and there are many places and things in this world that are beautiful. Of course not everything is beautiful. Everything has to die. Death is not in our control. If a flower is meant to wither by the start of winter, it will die. But there will be a birth of a new flower in the coming spring. It’s just how Life is. It’s a cycle. It’s a balance. As well as a heaven and a hell.
Hmong Shaman Hmong Christian LOL stfu troll. Quit your preaching. There are times when to be prideful and when not to, Just like anything else. There’s a balance and certain level of pride you should have during certain situations. Not saying to be all arrogant and cocky because we’re Hmong, but to be proud of who we are and where we came from because many young Hmong kids nowadays are losing their identity because of certain social influence to becoming black, Caucasian, or Korean etc. THIS is shong Lee’s message, you’re stretching it to another level of pride similar to that old fobby “Asian pride” music video. And of course stay humble at all times but never sit quiet and get taken advantage of when trouble comes.

Hmong Story in one song. If my kid asks me, "Dad, what is Hmong?" I'll be like, "Sit down kid, and let's watch Hmong Zaj on youtube by Shong Lee.
60 years of history in 204 seconds.
But kids now a day don't speak hmong so they'll be more confused after watching this
@@hmoobmeeka i was just about to say that. Its very sad im the last generation in my family who can speak read and write in hmoob.
Granted that they understood Hmong..LoL
hmoobmeeka can’t say the kids now and days can’t speak Hmong, when Hmong people can’t live together.
Love this version of our history. A history of sacrifices, survival and resilience.

I'm not a big fan of listening to Hmong music, but by far, I listen to Shong Lee.
I don't speak the language, but I could tell the passion behind the lyrics and I vibed heavily with it. I really liked the beat and the flow, I just wish I could fully appreciate the song by knowing the lyrics.
Not the full lyrics I've tried to capture the essence of it here:
“Since the beginning of time we Hmong have always known war.
Man this is dope!!! I love it...the truth & love being Hmoob...
Damn🔥🔥🔥
Shong Lee tearing it up again. Love it that his music isn’t always about drugs, money, women, and violence. Always a story that anyone young and old can relate to. Keep it going bro. Hard not to support your music.
Shong, you pretty much summed up my life in the USA for the past 40+ years in 3 1/2 minutes. I love your style and keep it real bro. We support you...

Won't be too long from now....im sure
Much love!
Awesome job incorporating our Hmong history in your soundtrack. Weather you know it or not, you're a light to our culture. Keep it up brother!
Damn.... this hits home. So freaken good. Got the feels at the beginning. ♡

True story clear message keep it my brother shong...💪
Your music inspire me. Because of our Hmong’s past in the war, I enlisted in the US Army. As enlisted in the military I’m going to college to become a cop. I not only want to serve our new country but my community as well. I’m only 19 fresh out of high school. I’m not doing it for anyone but myself.
Listening from Hawaii bruh🤙🏽! Great job!
I usually don’t listen to rap and it’s definitely not the kind of music to make me cry. I came upon this by accident and it made me cry. What a great illustration of our history. Good job.
HMONG PRIDE NOW AND FOREVER. keep up the good work brother
Best hmong rapper of all time

Omg Shong, I love your music, the lyric, the flow, the voice, the delivery, man everything about it! I thank you for this brief and sad but yet inspiring song and history behind it. You sir are very talented and very passionate toward your music. Keep up the good work brother. Hmong always. Wish you the best and you will always have a supporter no matter what! 👍
Dam, I'm seriously speechless..still speechless keep it up brotha HMONG4LYFE
Im so sad of how much these artist speak the realistic of Hmong in their song but it dont seem to teach our Hmong people enough to rethink about their action! Its upsetting to see our Hmong people continue killing their own kind and yet it cant seem to sink into people head that we have struggle long enough.
RIP BROTHER XYY LEE
Agreed 100%
just gotta say that this song brought me to tears.
At the time i am writing this, we are at half a million views! Congrats brother
Goes hard. Shong Lee the hardest Hmong rapper by far.!!$
Hmong pride till the day we die baby 🔥❤️🙏🏻
Gonna go to hell either way. So might as well be prideful and enjoy life.
If u plan on going to hell anyway let fuck till ur mind is blown out.
Pride = Satan, Humble = God... Haha LMAO 😂
