Oh hey, you mention that certain colors seem to pull prints better than others. Have you ever tried pulling with Folk Art brand paints? Their matte and multi-surface paints no matter the color, pull prints beautifully. Also the chalk paints. The chalk paints have incredible opacity, too. But I have yet to purchase a Folk Art brand paint I didn't like. And JoAnn's frequently has them at 4 for $5.00. It's a good way to get a color you love at a price where you can use the paint with wild abandon. I can't believe I never hear anyone talking about them. The Golden Fluid paints are good for applications that require no wait time, because they dry at the speed of light. I like using the heavy body with a little drop of hi-flow medium mixed in or some of the fluid and heavy body mixed. They are so pigmented that adding any of the mediums to them has very little effect on intensity of color and opacity.

These days I sticking with paints I also like to paint with. My favorites are still Golden Fluid for painting and gel printing. I'm limited with space so I don't want to go crazy and stock up on paints. Maybe someday I'll try them.

I use Paynes Grey a lot in my water colour paintings and just love it. I will have to get some acrylic now as well. Really liked your colour combinations today. Thank you for sharing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this gel plate session! I've always loved Payne's Grey and your new color combinations made me go shopping for some new to me colors. I've had my eye on Titan Green Pale for a while now and this video just convinced me to get a bottle. I also ordered Primary Magenta, which is also new to me. Can't wait for my order so I can try out these for myself! Thanks bunches for your beautiful art, your generous heart in sharing techniques and your major efforts involved in making these videos! Hugs for now💖

Love your color combinations! So much fun. I do tons of botanicals, and have found vast differences in Paynes Grey paints. My all time fav Paynes Grey is Amsterdam (standard, not expert) and I have several brands. Have you ever tried dental floss on the gel plate? The dental tape (very thin) is so much fun!

I liked all of these, even the ones you weren’t crazy about. That “grunge” look achieved when the plate accumulates layers of colors really sends me. 💛 My favorite was actually the last one you showed, with large areas of titan green pale with the little “fishes” of Quinacridone magenta. Beautiful!

Thanks so much! Yes, they did look like fishes. Usually the prints I'm so so on are the ones I like to use in collages. That's why I don't through anything away. There is always something there that can be used.

beautiful combos -- you mentioned taping down your plate to keep is from moving. - how would you do that? THX

    • @SusanCliftonArtist

At the time I was using a piece of Plexi under my plate and it would slide all over. I hated that so I would tape down the plexi to the table. The plate sticks to the table naturally so I stopped doing that.

You will have better luck with your registration if you anchor your plate to something that doesn’t move. Both your plate and the paper need to stay in the same position.

Yes, I am aware. I shot this shortly after moving into my new studio and I was not very organized. Not set up as I usually am. I don't know why it is taking me so long to get settled into the new place. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really do appreciate it.
