Upshmett shmuppshett, I bought HDO's and rapidfire like a week before these got announced, for around the same price... Is what it is, and the experience the HDO's have given me has been some of the most fulfilling, epic times so... Again, that's the way the cookie crumbled. If I had my money again I'd probably go DJI but then again, now i'm starting to race and fly with others it's important to have analogue, and to be able to tune into others feeds, so I'd get these over the HDO's. As always thanks for the time and efforts put into the review, worthy of crew thinking about diving into the mix, for sure. Cheers mate, shred on!

Don't feel too bad, plenty of people have light leak and fitment issues with the HDO2. Im using RF and HDO's as well, and will be for a good long time. They're not gonna be outclassed by cheaper alternatives for a bit still in my opinion.

Stew, I'm a long follower of your channel and a Patreon too and again, I'm a bit disapointed by your biased approach of FS products versus others ... you often/always did it, just because of their price. FS are pricy, they always did and we know it but that's one of the few company that gave and still give us top of the notch goggles. That's expensive ok, if you can't afford it you have plenty solutions now but if you can, you'll have a very good product with a good after sale service. Honestly , watch your video again and look at the face of your fellows, look at the smiles on their faces, they say a lot. cheers Stew

I get that the fitment wasn’t right for you and some people’s eyelashes rub, but for $10 you can put the thicker NBD foam on and potentially address both issues. Both Botgrinder and Bardwell did that and it took care of it. I agree - for the price, better foam and a more substantial head strap should come included, but it would be helpful to see if your biggest complaints about the product would be remedied if you spent a measly extra $20-30 to address them. Regardless - appreciate your honesty. Cheers!

Couple of things to note: HDO2 are now shipping with 2 thicknesses of foam to stop eyelashes hitting lenses plus if you need eye sight correction the diopter adjustment is amazing. If neither supplied foams stop eyelash issue there is thicker foams out there. Only issue for me is dvr being worse than my eachines ev100 add on dvr and it doesn't chop recordings into small chunks. So if you crash you have to watch back over lots of mins to find crash section. Also the screens are 4:3 resolution, they will do 16:9 but it leaves black bars top and bottom!

  • @ArchmageAU
    @ArchmageAU 4 года назад +1

Good summary. Lack of diopter support in the HDO2's was a killer for me which is why I went 03O's despite being a hard-core racer. +4/+6 prescription with astigmatism, the inbuild adjustment is not enough.
I will be adding a rapidfire to the 03O's for race days. 03O's DVR will record AV-IN so it will record the rapidfire when added (checked this before getting the skyzones).
Also DVR in HDO2's is poor (even when it does work).

i like the fatshark / apple comparison, if you already have fatsharks you will already have the receiver and antenna parts and you can sell the rest on, i tried a set of HD2's and HDO's and for the money it wasn't worth the upgrade from my Dom V2's which really suit my eyes, these HDO 2's with the individual focus without diopters could be a game changer though for me. they should also re visit the strap, something like a gopro strap with a 3rd band over the top of the head would be great so you don't need so much tension on the side 2, but these goggles with an immersion. RC powerplay could be a winner.

If you have good vision - read no glasses, old age, different dioptry/barrel.. on each eye.. then yep i can agree with most you said, too expensive, lenses touching eyelashes .. but .. there is one big but here, if you need focusing capability of these glasses, then there is almost no competition, only eachines as i know of - and they aren't really in same quality bracket.. so for me when i got hdo2's it was like i could finally see, now i can see that most of my cameras are out of focus, for me the money was really well spent and i just love them. Will try to get thicker foams when they show up, since old ones from my hd3's are not really compatible (bigger nose cut on hdo2s i guess) and hopefully that will also alleviate eyelash issues but i can live with that. What i would really like to see is 3d mode on hdmi input (yep i've connected them to pc, and they are usable even to work with ... ;) and better DVR. Since hdmi input is there and it works (didn't test lag yet, but mouse and window movements were ok, no ghosting or such - and i usually use 144Hz monitor) i would say these are also HD friendly when that becomes more popular. Considering that with DJI you're carrying box goggles with extra added weight of analog receiver i guess hdo2s with some future HD external module and hdmi cable link might be even lighter and smaller than current dji config for both analog and hd. Of course dji is here and now, we're still waiting for small hd receivers ;)

My buddy has a pair of these and honestly can't stand them. He has super sensitive eyes and can notice something that most people don't.
To reveal this to us normal eyed humans. Record close up footage of the screens of the HDO2's taken with a sportcam, record in NTSC and have the fpv feed in PAL. The differing framerates enable you to see just how badly it deinterlaced the incoming analouge FPV feed is. The image will continually jump up/down by a single (analogue) pixel. Something you won't see on LCD baced goggles.
So basically if you're a gamer and/or can notice the difference in high frame rate monitors....these may not be for you.

A hundred dollar difference is not that much for such an important part of FPV IMO when you look at the time line length of use and other costs involved flying FPV over time.... you probably won't lose or crash you googles and better visibility can save an expensive model from a power line or small branch. For models under 250 grams and even above that the analog FPV system is here to stay quite a while longer and the FS HDO2 is King with it's larger FOV and added adjustments over the original HDO IF your eyes can handle a larger FOV than 30-35 degrees.
Everyone's eyes are different so try before you buy if you can rather than listen to what works for someone else. And remember it's hard to beat Fat Sharks customer service should you need it. I'm only a fanboy for whatever works best for me and Fat Shark has my respect from earning it time and again. I've lost more money in parts collecting dust due to poor QC over the years than what I spent on my goggles that's for sure.

I am currently looking for my first set of goggles and have watched a large number of reviews. They all lead me to the same conclusion. Are the FatShark Hdo2's a good goggle? Yes. Do they cost too much? Yes!!! $500 for a non-functioning set of goggles that need a new receiver, new antennas to even function. Then they need a new strap, and new foam to make them fit properly, for seemingly most people. So, you are now up to somewhere around $700. SkyZone O3O = $400 and they function and fit. The point is, this is unreasonable to expect from any customer base. Though they will look nice laying next to your new $1200 Apple phone!🤣🤣🤣

Hi Stew Great video and review of the Fatshark Googles and the DJI Google system. I haven't been in the FPV World very long and when I started 2 years ago I couldn't purchase fatshark Googles and so I started with a set of Eachine EV800d and then I won a pair of Aomways commander V1 and I have been flying with them since. My only complaint is that the IPD could go out two more clicks, now I have been saving up for a new set of goggles and I have been looking at the SKYZONE 030 and now that I have only one complaint is that the skyzone can't take a outer module or maybe we can ? And on the DJI system I can't afford to spend the money on a new set of goggles and then purchase a module. But the DJI system you are looking at $150 dollars in each of the quads just for a camera and VTX. So I'm staying with the Skyzone. Thanks again for the information.

I like the new focus options and ipd adjustment but the hdo2s give me a headache. My eyes are always straining with the fov even when I set it to 16:9 with 4:3 camera. I also find them uncomfortable and how about a fan that doesn't turn off?

Ok DAMN !!! I bought HDO's, and now they suck !!! I gotta agree with your total assessment .Even though I bought HDO's last season, if I had to do it again, I would buy Skyzones. The receivers were a pain, I have no use for Rapidfire ( I'm not a crazy long range, video nut, or racer, or rich ).OLED is the thing, and when I bought mine , they were the only ones. Resale is not worth the return, so I'll just stick with what I got , and be happy.. I do have to say my set have worked flawlessly, for over a year, with less than gentle treatment. Fatshark is just way behind the curve.

100 bucks isnt alot more for fatsharks compared to Skyzones.
You dont HAVE to get rapidfire, cheap Achilles is also an option.
And dont forget there's practically no customer support for skyzone.
All that for 100 bucks less.
edit: i have the ev200d so i'm not defending a fatshark purchase :)

Comfort is really very personal. For my face it is even more comfortable than Skyzones 03O. No lash contact. In same time DJI Goggles have terrible fit :( And this fact stops from buying them. Dream of some DJI compatible ground station with HDMI output :)

The HDO2 would be worth it if they cost the same as the Fatshark Scout does right now. And the Fatshark Scout should cost as much as the Fatshark Recon V3. The Recon V3 should cost roughly 15 to 20 bucks more than the makerfire goggles.

As someone thinking about getting into the hobby, never tried analog or digital, and not bothered by the price of DJI FPV, the video signal of analog looks horrible and turns me off from the hobby. I need HD video to be interested in the sport. DJI FPV is it for me. Am I wrong?

To be fair, the analog setups look a lot better in person than they do on RUclips. That being said, I had analog setups for a couple years and while they were a blast, I've sold it all off and gone fully to the DJI setup. It looks way better.

The sky03O have a sharp and clean image ( not like the blurry HDO1 that i have). HDO1 was a waste of money , i regret my buying(very happy with the sky03O). @jmcjmc5587 4 года назад

@@kudzy11 I think is back of a cinema. But it's enough. I can say you that you will be happy with this goggle. The image is amazing for analog. Perhaps the HDO2 is good. But i don't know. Think that you see a image that was processing by the goggles. This is the reason why the sky03O is good. There's no reason for me to buy a goggles if the image is blurry like the crap of HDO1. Look to every review of the HDO1. People will tell you how great is HDO1. But don't thrust the fanboys try by yourself the goggle you want to buy if you can. For the receiver look my channel. There's many good reviews on SKY03O.
