- CSM Chapter 170 just took the entire community by surprise, as the chapter started as a weird sushi mukbang but very quickly turned sour, not just for Denji but for the readers too. What are your thoughts on this chapter and is Nayuta actually dead?

Now that Nayuta has died, it's clear to me that Chainsaw's story will only be unhappy until the end. I don't even doubt Asa's death now; it would be another impactful death for Denji. I believe that until the end it will just be Denji being torn apart in body and soul and then the Perfect Chainsaw Man appears and is killed in a fight with the demon of death or both dying together, similar to Devilman Crybaby. My Theory of the Ending.

I'm not ok. I love nayuta. People on reddit pointed out that her head doesnt have the mole under her left eye. I feel like itd make sense to keep the actual nayuta in barems back pocket and make a copy of her head to see if thats even nepugh pain to make senji transform. Idk im probably juat coping hard. But idk. It was off screen so i feel like theres a chance

You might be coping, but that theory certainly has logic behind it. An off screen death always leaves a little bit of curiosity. Only need to wait until next week to see more though!

I think that's one of the options for sure. I think fujimoto might be trying to foreshadow that just purely by having the absolute worst shit happen to denji for essentially the entirety of part 2.

I don't think nayuta can be revived like denji was, now there're 3 possible outcomes. 1- He turns into chainsaw man (the big one) and after a weird turn of events eats nayuta, erasing her from existence. 2- He turns into chainsaw man, kills everyone and tries to go to hell somehow to retrieve nayuta back to the living. And 3- He realizes they'll try to use his power somehow, and just doesn't turn into chainsaw man, leaving everyone dumbfounded.
EDIT: WAIT WAIT BEAR WITH ME, I FOUND ANOTHER POSSIBILITY (it probably isn't going to happen, but it's fun to think it could be). No one said contracts a devil made break when it dies, so maybe Nayuta still has all of the abilities Makima gained through all of her contracts, therefore maybe she still has the thing with the prime minister, so she could be coming back to life with a full body anytime, freaking everybody out including denji.
I absolutely love everything you're saying, that last point is AMAZING and would be such a sick way to link everything back to makima.
OR the most boring varient: it's not Nayuta and just fake body, but Denji will finally break and turn in big Chainsaw Man

gotta remember, Barem is working with Fami to prevent the Prophecy. The only ways were to either weaponise and control the War Devil (which failed) or bring out the Black Chainsawman - which looks like it's about to succeed. This was all part of Fami's plan

At the end of part 1, Makima took everyone in Denji’s life away from him. In part 2, Denji only had 2 people who he really connected with and cares about. Nayuta and to a lesser extent Asa. So Theoretically this chapter will Denji into rage mode like in Part 1. I mean, that’s definitely going to happen. Asa and Fami are the wild cards in this situation. How they react will change how things play out differently than part 1.

I like your thinking but I don't necessarily think so. Maybe it's one of those things that will be left open to interpretation and it actually was what Fujimoto intended to do with that design, and if that's the case then it just further shows his genius as a writer. He really is next level.

I would highly recommend it mate, not only is the new joint-Main Character fantastic but the way they interact with Denji is so fucking cool. Not only that, Denji's character arc is just fascinating. Give it a go, even though the pace is slower the plot is still really interesting

Fujimoto definitely ahead lol, I get Yuji has suffered like crazy but the nature of what has happened to Denji, and the way that it's happened (in terms of the rollercoaster nature of his last couple of years) I think Denji's situation is a lot worse. Gege just likes to inflict pain on absolutely everyone though it's not just yuji lol

It was just a blatant signal of fujimoto telling telling us to connect the pieces between the history and reasoning of why chainsaws are included with the hero of hells design and potchitas true power which is to eat things out of existence.
Pochita remains as the apex predator of all devils as he can erase them from existence.
Chainsaws are also used in some butcheries to cut meat and bone and prepare it to be shipped and eaten
Where the theory falls flat is with the whole thing about the reason what chainsaws were made for could have been erased

If Nayuta stays off screened throughout the whole story I honestly think it would be a waste of 80 chapters of fleshing out her character. Part 2 of CSM was slow paced already and Nayuta's character developing was even slower since we don't see her much throughout the story. I find that they should still try and explore how Makima's memories within Denji made Nayuta realise a part of her she hadn't previously explored, because first, it's an interesting concept, and second, leaving that on a cliff hanger just leaves us a bunch of unfilled space and for a character that plays a major role like her left on such a note just feels as if she was underdeveloped. If Fujimoto decides to kill her off like this, in my opinion it would be a waste of potential, poor character development and her character would end the same as Nezuko, a plot device (and I get she is technically one but her being killed off so abruptly just makes her being a plot device way more glaring and honestly, it's just dissatisfying to see not seeing her fleshed out the way she could've been and would feel more of a catalyst from Fujimoto on making Denji's mental mindset a living hell). It feels like this is just a way on forcing a dilemma on Denji's mental state, and I find this could've been handled much more meticulously, expertly and more well-rounded.

I appreciate your opinion and even though I can't speak on the Nezuko point because I haven't watched Demon Slayer yet, I 100% understand the point you're trying to get across. I agree that if Nayuta dies right now it would be a huge waste of her character as she was still in the major development stage. She didn't even know what side she wanted to stand on yet and that was one of the most interesting plot threads in part 2. However, I don't think Fujimoto would leave a character with such little conclusion to their development and therefore I'm in the camp of believing this head is a fake to try and destroy Denji mentally, which I think will work. If that is the case then it's a win win situation. Nayuta stays alive and we continue to see her character evolve, and Fujimoto allows himself to get to Denji's breaking point which is inevitable. Regardless I think the story is at one of its most interesting and thought provoking points rn.
