I think the reason the people on the phones were so hesitant to give you a "bad" room with a bad view and most inconvenient spot because they were worried you might be someone trying to review hotels and giving them a bad rep on youtube pretending you were getting a totally normal room from them

When you go to the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills hotel, you see TONS of people in the entertainment industry. It’s considered good luck when a movie deal or recording contract is signed there. Hang out in the lobby sometimes you see multiple celebrities on the daily basis.

This is completely my strategy: I like to stay in 5-Star Hotels but then immediately look for their least expensive rooms. For me, it's about the amenities of the hotel in general and not about the room itself.

At the Beverly Hills Hotel -The reason why that room is so small is because they had to keep a few of the rooms original for historic reasons. I used to work there - good times.

Tip for you, when wanting to see the best rooms, go up to the floor via the stair case, find the room cleaner, and ask for a tour. My sisters and I did that at the Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton Alberta and the rooms were beyond beautiful. We did it on a whim one day when they were visiting, so the only cash we had on us for a tip was around $50. But it was worth it to see where Queen Elizabeth pooped back in the 80's. :)
Staircases can make you scan in now, too. Honestly, it doesn't feel as safe in the case of fire, or especially earthquakes.
@Bloo-foo What a shame. I am thankful that I got to see it when I did. I stayed there once for a surgery the next day, but I didn't pay for it. A friend did. It was nice but loud. Definitely not worth the money per night.

SMH do folks just guess & post BS like facts? Once upon a time, far far away (OK only a few decades) we all did not have little cell phones/HDcams/tracking devices on us at all times. So fancy hotels put phones in the bathroom, as it was a legit luxury. I remember my 1st SIGH. It was at the Beverly Hilton in a stunning private annex. Of course, back then, there was no unlimited calling & calls were very expensive. It has zero to do with emergencies. Just a hold over to when it was a novelty to be able to call someone from the bathroom

My mom works for the Beverly Hills hotel and you need formal attire and its for a more luxurious vibe. Also it is not overpriced, the hotel is kinda made for celebrities.
To be fair, a lot of expensive places and flights require you to wear pants.
there are rules even if you're staying at home alone. go to other places if you don't feel like following rules.
