    As an engineer, I can say with some certainty that the mags could even be the exact same design and molds as a prior, good generation, but idiots at companies, especially gun companies, let plastic companies talk them into choosing and buying alternatives to the ones spec'ed by the engineers, leading to malfunctions. Not saying the string mags were ever good, just that it may not be an engineering problem but a penny pinching one.

      Perfect example of this is the magazines the US military adopted with the M9; they didnt buy beretta magazines, but cheaper, lower quality aftermarket magazines in order to save money.

    • @Laotzu.Goldbug
      @Laotzu.Goldbug 4 года назад +25

      @@burnyburnoutze2nd to be fair, that's actually not what happened. It's a common conception, but it's a misconception. The company that made the third party magazines for the Beretta M9 in US service was Checkmate. Checkmate is a perfectly reputable company capable of high-quality manufacturing if the contract specifies it. They specced out a magazine for USGI use, with their own anti sand/friction coating. The government rejected that and specified their own heat treatment, which ended up producing very poor quality mags. Once they learn their lesson, they went to the now fairly well-known sand resistant mags, versions made by both Beretta themselves as well as Checkmate, which function as well as any other magazine for the gun.
      So, same general principle that we are alluding to here, but in this case a government screw up rather than a commercial one.

The problem with the m17 and m18 is they didn’t even have to go through normal testing just did the first down select and it and the glock are the only ones that made it and then went straight to cheapest. Chris from small arms did a great video going through the entire debacle.

      NATO spec is seen as “military ammunition” and basically all European countries ban that kind of ammunition.
      Europe has its mental rules and USA have another mental rules and laws.
      For example in Czech Republic (I live here and CZ UB produce their guns here) you can’t own “military weapons and ammunition”. Pro tip with synthetic magazines don't use gun oil. Use STP SON OF A GUN or other plastic conditioners. I love the Israeli Orlite mags, Thermold USA mags and Hexamags. Plastic conditioners make them shine like a brand new car interior and slip slide like magic eliminating follower bind. I learned that trick with Glock mags back in the 90's before steel liner drop free mags. If you have polymer mags treat it with the appropriate conditioner. Don't use Armorall it will make it brittle and break.

And I do have the mags marked for range use only. Four of the six I owned functioned flawlessly since the gen 1 and gen 2 1A. And definitely not apparently as many as literally just a handful of channels seem too. I seem to have the same experience most of the channels seem too. The majority remark they have not had the issues so widely reported. But they have heard of it. And I like most run the gamut on ammo. I have never fed carry rounds through it. I have fed bulk 115 grain through all of them. As 124 when it was on sale. Since they fixed the original mags. I cannot recall a single FTF or FTE issue. I have not changed to the shortened buffer. In fact nary an internal change.
    The 2 A1's I sold with the new curved mags. Because I did not want to sell the two range only mags to someone. And I can afford to have range only toys. Many only every buy 1 or 2 firearms. So I wanted them to have no issues.

    A3 magazines. The spring cannot be installed upside down but it can be installed backward. If so the back of the follower gets spring tension before the front and greater tension all the time, so the ammo can do all kind of crazy stuff. Looking at it now I believe 2 or 3 of mine came that way from the factory. Then the fact that anemic ammo caused a jam where a spent case and a new round were tangled inside the action really confused the issue. So a really accurate gun got a bad rap. I got mine to work like a champ before they replaced the bolt and locking block on the first 3000. Disassemble a mag and see for yourself or put the spring in backward and fill it up.

    I have one issue with the way the malfunction was cleared. If a malfunction happened like that with an AR, pulling the magazine makes more sense. I see that being a good example to show the void where the case could fall if you point the gun up but if you tried that same technique with the evo or b&t the round wont clear.

    • @Militaryarmschannel
      @Militaryarmschannel 4 года назад +3

      Why would pulling the magazine on the malfunction where the case got under the bolt help? It didn't try to feed another round, the case was holding the bolt back. Let's face it, no gun should malfunction in such a way that a spent case can get into the trigger group or under the bolt. To say that's operator error is to be making irrational excuses for the guns flawed design.

    Combination "roller delayed" and "inertial amplification". That block of steel at the front of the bolt has to accelerate backwards at a higher rate than the bolt. The higher the rearward bolt acceleration (during peak pressure), the more the inertial mass causes the cam pin to engage the sloping cam slot. Pretty clever. What might be unknown is robustness against dirt and durability...
    The MP5 uses a heavy hammer with a cocking geometry to amplify the total bolt inertia, along with its roller delay system.

It is a good improovement to any gun. Aries supressors uses this kind of approuch. Perhaps the handle can't let a circular suppressor to slide over it... seens it is not this gun inclination... would be fine to see this kind of possibility.
