    As someone else mentioned, Spöksonat is just a short interlude that links into He Is, so you could just listen to it on your own to see how these tracks connect and quickly mention your impressions before reacting to Mummy Dust. Also worth noting an interesting easter egg: listen to Spöksonat and then go back to Rats' ending riff, you might notice some similarities!
    I'm so hyped that you finally got to Meliora! Many fans consider it the quintessential Ghost album, and I agree. Every track is a banger, no exceptions. Already looking forward for your next videos!

    Spoksonat is one of the little interlude tracks actually. By itself it's not much to react to. I'd say the live version of Mummy Dust is still probably the best way to react to the song. By itself on the album it's cool and all but live is where this song really shines

    do Spöksonat and mummy dust in the same video if you want, since Spöksonat is technecally a short instrumental (which has the same melody as another song you've reacted to by ghost, wonder if you'll know which one haha). and you should defitely find a good live of mummy dust

    Ludvig Kennberg:s drumming on Opus is good. But on Meliora it is just outstanding! I love his groove but especially on Spirit even the technicality. This track is really really hard to nail them drums. Tobias first wrote the spooky beginning and that set the tone for the rest of the track. One of the most underrated Ghost songs. I frickin love it ❤️

    Difference between echo and reverb is that echo = "choppy" defined repeats, while reverb rather is a continous fading flow of the sound source

    Amazing growth by the band - from Opus to Infest to this. They had A-list production on this album, and it shows. The sound and vibe are amazing. It felt like this album was where their vision came into focus.

    Spirit and Absolution are my favorites from this album. Mind blowing live🤯

    Tobias did his own harmonies on the first 3 albums, and had these in backingtrack live. On next album (Prequelle), he implemented backup vocals by band. And yeah, the production on Meliora is a major step-up! Love theremin too, probably one in the intro

  • @neuralmute
    @neuralmute Год назад +5

    If that's not an actual theremin at the beginning of Spirit, then it's a synth that sounds a hell of a lot like one! And that whole song sums up a big part of why I love Ghost - it's heavier track (at least for them) that opens with a freakin' THEREMIN, and then is lyrically based on a poem by Edgar Allen Poe about absinthe-induced visions of hell. (Yes, you are so right, the theremin IS the coolest instrument ever. A friend of mine who's an industrial musician built one, and it's the best.)
    EDIT: So it's Papa 3 on this album - the story is that Papa 2 wasn't successful enough so he was fired, and his younger brother (by 6 months) took his place. Papa 3 was a hot bisexual mess, with a tendency to fall off the stage during shows. He also introduced the acoustic versions, and the Kazoo of Destiny.

      Terzo holds a special place in my heart but there's something about Copia that is winning me over

      @neuralmute Год назад +2

      @@Andjelka99 Terzo was definitely a winner. I miss him too.
      But I've had a strange liking for our weird little rat-pope from the beginning. I think it was the Thriller style dance in Rats that got me.

    Spirit isn't really the strongest track on the album, but it is good nonetheless, and as others have said it sets up Pinnacle to the Pit quite well in the album setting. Great review, and looking forward to the next!

    you’re going to love Mummy Dust if you’re really into the synth haha
    also, once you finish Meliora you’ve gotta listen through Ceremony and Devotion, which is a live recording of a ritual, even if you just listen to it off camera - Ghost live just can’t be topped imo

  • @jonasmandersson

    Always love your reactions! Still Mel-i-ora though, Not Mel-o-ria. Spöksonat is swedish for Ghost sonnet, and is just a short instrumental. I think you can include it in a double reaction.
    But don’t forget Spöksonat though!! When you listen to the outro riff of Rats (Prequelle album) you might recognise it…😇

      It eventually shook doen to my favorite Ghost album. That may be because it is like the dark version of (don't laugh) Moody Blues' Long Distance Voyager.
      Nope, I'm wrong. Closer to In Search of the Lost Chord.

    The voice having none, or too little effect, is usually happening in mixing for two reasons. One would be for artistic/aesthetic reasons and the other one for instruments and voice separation. You can't pour tons of effect on every instrument in such a busy piece and expect intelligibility and separation throughout the mix. Few instruments must benefit from the same effect (usually reverb), in the detriment of others. Is like widening the stereo field through reverb and instrument positioning, but to achieve that other elements must get narrower and dryer. in this case, the voice. The previous albums weren't so busy from instrumental arrangement perspective, so the voice had enough space to breathe even with some good amount of reverb on. That being said, the mix and master of this album is great and the voice sounds exactly like it should.
    I could talk all day about when, where, why and how you may use the effects for different scenarios in a mix, but "I ran my mouth long enough" as you like to say. :)

    First off, kinda had to laugh when I saw you struggling to concede that the vocals in F'ing ABBA were superior to Tobias Forge. Of course they are! We're talking about ABBA! Haha
    The other great thing about this track though is it perfectly sets up Pinnacle To The Pit when you listen to the album as a whole.

    Dude, you have to do If You Have Ghosts. It's great! Dave Grohl produced it and it's rumored he's on the drums on it. Here is the original. You might want to go down the Roky Erickson rabbit hole. Guy was a genius.
