I bought a Harrison 950MX in 2015 and it has proven itself invaluable over time. And that's considered a very minimalist console (only two busses for example). There seems to be no shortage of tricks you can do with regards to routing. That's before you get into the sound and such. Workflow and routing flexibility alone was I think worth the price tag. The Audient looks amazing, sounds great and is as feature rich as the API 1608 as far as I can see. I wish I knew about it when I was buying because it probably would have been the choice.
@@alecbrits They really are. A master class in great, and minimalist, design. It's strange that they don't have the kind of reputation or devoted fan base like Neve or API because the quality is there. It re-enforced for me the concepts Brian Eno talks about a lot (less is more etc). Definitely, as ever it's the workflow like you say. But I would say I have wished for extra features like what you have on your Audient. That to me looks like a really well thought out console with the perfect amount of features but I'm not complaining. The Harrison really is a gem too.
Love your videos, love the sounds you get, and this was super insightful. It seems like whenever someone posts a video about consoles on RUclips its always "why I left my analog console to an apollo system" and its refreshing to see someone legitimately talk about the pros and cons of their unit that is still using it all the time in conjunction with their software in a hybrid system.
So true man, when you have a good acoustically treated room, mic pre and mic It literally saves you money even if initial cost is much higher.. as your productivity skyrockets!
Inspired by your videos (and others) ---- My Audient 4816SE is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, after its trip from England. I do not need it in a practical sense, but I do think it will be enjoyable.
Really informative videos man. I enjoyed your overview of the console and this justification video as well, I’m looking into a console myself and the Audient is on my list of options. I like that you also pointed out the cabling costs and the additional commissioning issues.. it’s always a killer!! I think for me the biggest decision blocker is landing on something that will last me the next 10-15 years as I grow as an artist and not be something I want to sell if I get a bigger facility in 5 years or so, it’s a really tough choice because while the Audient ticks a lot of boxes right now, I’d also love an API and maybe I’m better off waiting because it’s such a large purchase, it’s a tough choice!
@@alecbrits Thank you! I agree! The thing I like about the Audient is that it's kind of akin to they style of running an SSL board.. tons of routing and mix options and a very true sound, what you put in is what you get out so you can collect outboard gear and get your colour there, and just happen to be affordable! The API / Neves are more of an immediate vibe and life of their own type sound, but way less flexible, at least on the API Box or 1608, and of course double the price of the Audient stock without any modules installed. It's a big investment whichever way you go, but I like that you've committed to your choice and are clearly making the most of it with your space, congrats!
I think this is the best console choice under $25,000. One of the best features is it can handle two signal paths. So one for tracking and the other for mixing. This is something that even the API 1608 console lacks.
Greatest vídeo and your work. Congratulations! The work on RUclips, has helped in mys news journeys:content creator and radialist in Future. Lord bless your Mister. Greeting from Brazil.
Ahhh!! That’s my conundrum with API. I Figured that if I went for a 1608 and a RND Summing nicer, that would give me a pseudo inline console. The 1608 is INCREDIBLE.
Hey, found this off your 47 review. Good info. Question- how much are you leaning on the Audient for coloration, or for that matter, is there any? Great room btw. Thanks, -D
Thank you so much! The Audient is not my go to for colour when tracking. However mixing through it has a pretty substantial punch that I find really enjoyable!
Hello, Honorable Alec! I am from Brazil.I would like yours on contents, because building homestudios:Talk show, gospel, gameplays. Thanks for matter attention.
New sub here. I love your stuff (music, gears) and your personality tbh. You’ll grow big buddy! Ps: I’m going to sub using my main channel too ;) cheers and stay safe!
Such clarity.... I really enjoyed this. Many thanks
Thank you so much! :)
Excellent video. Hope to see more videos like this where you go through your console/digital workflow- recording, mixing, etc.
Thank you so much Ken!
here since day 1 - don't regret it! thanks for your great content.
Thank you so much! :)
Hey Alec! It's been a while. Lovely to see your new post!
Thank you Arie!

That Harrison is incredible. :) but I get what you are saying about the Audient. As ever, it’s workflow situation isn’t it!

Thanks Yoni! It was a big decision, but I am really enjoying the workflow.

It’s all the things working together that allow for some serious creativity. :)
Your videos are all very helpful, and your talent is tremendous! Thanks
Thank you so much! :)
How about a video on running a studio - finances - clients - logistics - etc. thx
Perhaps in the future! :)

Great stuff! :) enjoy it Thomas.
Great video as I am a console to "ITB" to Back to console user. Currently deciding between 3 and the Audient is one of them thanks for sharing✌🏽
Thank you! :) would you mind telling me what your 3 choices are currently?
@@alecbrits My current 3 choices are (1) Neve 8424 (2) API The Box (3) Audient 4816
@@WarrenHenry All good. I'd go 8424 and add automation later. 8ch pres later.
SO HAPPY I stumbled upon your Channel, absolutely love it!!! Did you play the piano for the backing track? Sounds so smooth
Thank you so much! I did indeed play the backing track. Everything you hear on this channel is home grown here in the studio. :)
Great points!!! I'm new to your channel, big up!!!!
Thanks Oscar! :)

Thank you so much! The API consoles are my biggest temptation as well. But the prices are a little prohibitive, but OH SO WORTH IT!

Alec do you have anyof the songs you have produced or performed on YT or Amazon Prime Music?
Hey Thomas, not yet, they will be released from next year. :)
Your music in the channel is mixed analog on the console? It sounds so great and i try to understand whats the magic sauce hh
Nope! :) all music on the channel is mixed in the box, only with reverb and buss limiting.

thanks for this. recently been considering selling my outboard stuff and getting a console. scary
It’s a big move, but it’s also a great move! Best of luck to you! :)
Are you going to trade the console in and buy one of the new 4816's?
Ahhh the big question! :) if money was not a concern, I would do it in a heartbeat.
1 question how does the audient sound?
I have a review on it. :) check it out.
