Thanks for the live show name ideas everyone! Just to clarify: we are looking for a name that appeals to people who have never heard of us and basically has nothing to do with our current name (any "but", "outside", "inside" stuff is not right). I know a lot of people don’t like religious talk on here but I really really enjoyed this episode. Y’all did a really good job keeping the conversation going in a positive direction. Also Ken was very levelheaded and knowledgeable and seemed like a very kind man.

Andrew and Cole are fantastic. Religion can be such a slog but they managed to make it entertaining and succeeded in steering their guests in the right direction by asking great questions.
Great ep! It's really interesting hearing some of Andrew's thoughts this time, especially since I'm studying religion myself and have surpisingly not met many people from non-religious backgrounds. The next time my grandma asks me to become her church's Priest, I will definitely let her know there's a hypothetical billion dollar path for me that God's intended!

He loves God, and therefore wants to obey Him and has resolved to do away with sin. It's like if your wife didn't like it when you drank - taking a shot of vodka wouldn't make her divorce you, but it sure wouldn't be respecting her. You're not in the relationship just to be in a relationship, you're in the relationship because you love her. Also as a side note taking a shot of vodka is not explicitly commanded against in the Bible. It just says not to be given to too much wine, stay sober e.t.c. so the rules on what amount is wise to drink vary from person to person. Conscience plays a big role in scripture as well.

Coming from my experience sharing my faith, I wouldn't be surprised if he meant that politics in America have made being a follower of Christ a "taboo" type of thing. Many liberals are inclined to think being christian means being homophobic and against women's rights, and conservatives often see christianity as something that limits their freedoms like how they are allowed to spend their money or who they're allowed to have sex with. In reality tho, Jesus openly opposed the legalists who viewed themselves as better than others and showed love and attention to those who were oppressed in society. And like Ken was saying, following Christ doesn't mean being bound to a set of rules out of fear of Hell, but instead we follow these rules out of love for God as a way of thanking Him. Christianity at its core is non-partisan, but admittedly the church has often failed at keeping it this way.

I think it can be dangerous to say the religion is a cult, even though I can understand. Religion is a large part of different people’s cultures. It allows people to form a community, it creates customs or holidays that surround it, it helps dictate some of their beliefs, what lessons they want to pass on to their children, etc! Obviously people have swayed religious text in order to change people’s opinions or harm people and it’s important to call that out! It’s also important to think for yourself! Maybe the religion you grew up with will connect with you as you grow or it will separate. When it comes to religion, especially in communities in the minority or even people who have struggled due to colonization, sharing their beliefs explaining who their ancestors praised, etc, religion is a really important aspect of keeping their culture alive! I think the big thing is allowing kids and yourself to learn about a variety of beliefs, allow them to ask questions and have different views, and don’t force them to believe if they do not.
