I was amazed some years ago when I watched this movie with my late mother, she started to sing this song. How did she know it, I thought? Her memory is eternal, and when I listen to this I see her sing it again. Memory eternal ma.

Real speak-easy music, prohibition was a time no one ever forgot, that lived during that time. Ragtime, Flappers ,the Charleston... a time of beautiful music such as this!
This was my fathers favorite song and it reminds me so much of him..."Amapola...my pretty little flower".

My father was the first teacher, at a junior college level, to teach american and foreign film (and I was his perjectionist). In all honesty he was quite good at it. Every semester had a wide range of films he used for his class and Once Upon A Time In America & Once Upon A Time In The West were two of favorite films to use. The music from both was amazing, and brings back a huge bank of memories.

When movies were still original and considered a piece of artistic expression that was valued by the industry and the audience. Nowadays the only thing that matters is serving it to the highest target group to make the most money which is mostly young audience. No balance between quality and revenue is there anymore and old concepts gets remade on repeat, originality is hard to find these days. There are enough good directors, but their creativity gets destroyed by the investor's mold.

Absolutely beautiful! Probably the best performance of this piece ever, but I wish there was a version available with only the quartet and without the strings in the background - like the version Deborah danced to in the movie.while David was spying on her.

Siamo in Italia purtroppo
