4:49 Ouch. That was savage.
I don't like being negative but sometimes it is the only justifiable response.
New boarding actions book will get my money, even though it’s mostly updated arks of omen missions. Im a sucker for boarding actions, so fun
Same team slacker, same team.
Me as well. So far it’s the only thing I’ve really wanted out of 10th. Might pick up a Sisters codex at some point.
I'm a sucker for it too, _theoretically_ . Never played it. And new detachments for factions... will they have all new stratagems, etc?
But, lastly, what is the absolute dirt-cheapest way to get a further set of the gallowdark terrain? Reckon it'll be grey painted foamcard walls for me, with the nice stuff in the centre 🫤
I think the Deathwatch veteran kit is being re-named as a Deathwatch Kill team. As it states in the article: "Deathwatch Kill Teams joining the RETINUE units" and it links to the veterans on the store.
The Death Watch change is basically telling you not buy this book if you want to play Death Watch. This is not your book, you are now just a generic set of Space marines. That is your codex now. There is some slim chance there might be some special rule in play if you do but I doubt it. So you are the same as playing, say salamanders or ultramarines, and you can ally in some Death Watch units exactly the same as every other Imperial army. Why did they do this? They could have just left DW as an index and played with points. Instead they are sacrificing an Army that has had multiple codex's over several editions to just have some extra anaemic padding for their Inquisitor book... I realise that for this edition all most armies are getting is one new character model and that is it, but it is not really fair to say DW don't sell when they still haven't even had a primaris kit. The death watch upgrade sprue is also still the old from ages ago and even has alternative first born chest bits that are worthless these days. At least do a new upgrade sprue at Primaris scale... Artemis is also not a welcome return. He is a slightly bigger first born model that won't fit in the new army. Really he just a relic from the old big inquisitor game that they re-discovered the 40k molds for. All this is just a kick in the teeth and a spit in the face. Then lastly the video announcing this shows off Grey knights more than Death Watch. They also add the special promise that "don't you worry Grey Knight players. We won't near-squat you. We promise to give you a real codex when we can get around to it".
Oh and this is all just coming out a couple of months before Space marine 2 comes out where you will play (probably just for the intro mission) alongside and as Death Watch, with Titus in Death Watch armour. People will think that is cool and want to play it. They go to the GW store for the clerk there to tell them that DW is not an army anymore. Go buy some Space Marines.
Pretty much yes. I can only imagine the answer for why is because no one was buying deathwatch stuff. However it's that classic chicken and egg thing with GW. They don't support it with new models, people don't buy it because the models look dated, so they don't support it with new models. Though, to be fair, I do actually think the death watch veteran kit and the Corvus Blackstar look quite cool... they are a bit older.
I've been playing Deathwatch since 8th and I can tell ya, Deathwatch has always felt unsupported or niche. In 8th, it was a 10 vets armed with shields and storm bolters for insane Special Issue Ammo shenanigans. Take 3 squads of those and a loyal 32 with a couple leman russ tanks as an anvil for the vets to hammer (or scalpel) off of.
When 9th came in, goodbye storm bolters, hello kill teams. In that edition, kill teams and their specialisms felt pretty awesome. It was still a completely infantry based army but super thematic because of all the kill teams you were bringing.
In 10th, we aren't really running kill teams anymore. We're taking all of those kill team components in their original squads and bricks of veterans or terminators for damage.
So playing a DW themed marine army isn't much different. And unless they were bringing back veteran bikers and including multiple cyclone missile launcher bits in terminator kits, the DW terminators weren't surviving unscathed and the vet bikers were probably getting phased out. This absolutely sucks but I think it'll be about the same as how some top end DW players were already playing lists, small teams of vets, terminators, inceptors, and gladiators in the Blackspear detachment. Now, we can take some fully decked out vets and some watchmasters in a Dark Angels army or some other chapter, with all of the cool unique characters and units included. It feels a little more thematic with a couple DW kill teams showing up for special missions.
My IG are getting their DW scalpels back!!!
Good to hear you are upbeat about it, I was hearing from a guy in my discord who very much was still running Kill Teams, but good to see it's a less widespread issue!
@@TabletopImpulse I really missed the ability to use DW a little more thematically in games, so this scratches a roughly four year old itch. Then again, I could also be a weirdo for liking imperial soup armies.
Definitely! You can still use the kill teams but they weren't optimal for the points you were spending. The best one was the Proteus and it was costed as if you were without a doubt taking four terminators and a bike with three cyclone missile launchers. The team could do some serious damage but you could only afford one or two in a list. Whereas, you can fit three units of terminators and a couple min-sized vet squads for more CML and better utility.
At least with this codex release any future imperial killteams will have a faction that can be added to quite easily
This is true!
i like the coteaz model, tbh its exactly what i had expected it to look like based on what i'd read about inquisitors that happen to use power armor. (thinking of sinderman in war of the beast) someone said that the armor looked esotric and old and i agree. i had never seen the old model before today tho, its a cool model too no doubt about that!
You are the first person I have seen who likes him! But I am glad someone does!
@@TabletopImpulse i definitely feel like the dumbest person on the planet for it..
I can only see these working as an allied force or a bolt on for a larger force. On their own they will not work against all comers.
I think I agree, but we shall see when the codex appears.
My space marine army lost its core, and my Vets lost all their transports
Hmm, you can ally that deathwatch stuff back into Space Marines - it will just depend exactly what models you have.
@@TabletopImpulse basically a lot of phobos, transports, and DW Vets. Like, a LOT
Yeah I can ally them back in, but how many, and will they keep the Adeptus Astartes keyword? If not, my bottom of the barrel army just got a lot worse
Not to mention the random wrong numbers of models (for kill teams) and wayyy too many heavy weapon termies
How do you kill a tank?
Have you seen the guns a Corvus Blackstar can pack?
I suppose so! However, with detachments themed around the three different ordos, it would still be kind of rubbish if the Blackstar was psudo-mandatory. Also, as a flyer, it is odds on to be overcosted.
Most important question, when we will hear something about KT :D?
I think, at the latest, we will hear something at the Nova Open, but that's a month away...
@@TabletopImpulse I heared that someone said that 8 August will be a preview? But is it possible?
I’m very excited for agents, I have wanted to start DW for a long time and have held off until now. So many hobby opportunities with this codex!
I think the DW will be back with their own codex next edition. GW will concentrate on Primarusing all the main chapters (possibly even GK) this edition and deathwatch will get the same next edition. Doesn’t make sense for DW to have their own codex when the miniatures look so small and out of date, but they do make sense as ally’s until they get updated. Just my opinion.
Great video btw! Why release it as members only? As glandy says news is views
I think it's quite possible that Deathwatch will get a codex in 11th edition - but that will be cold comfort for many. I hope that supportive friends groups let friends continue to use the index if that's what they would like . This video is going public at 5pm today, released early for members as a perk - I considered doing it as an extra because it's news, but I desperately need to build up a little backlog of videos before I go away on holiday.
Lucky for my finances, nothing here for me.
I'll be picking up the book.... just the book.
I’m really disappointed by the new Coteaz mini. I hope someone like Pete the Wargamer fixes it up.
Of the 3 FOMO boxes, the Hereticus one is the only one I like at all. The Malleus one with its double henchmen seems super fragile and the Xenos one looks very suboptimal unless that Corvus Blackstar gets a big points cut. It feels like they’re clearing out backstock from the warehouse.
I guess it’s a good thing I’ve got extra Reivers, Incursors, & Infiltrators minis on the sprue from when I did up my Phobos kill team. Should let me get at least 5 of them per unit. I’d picked up, but never built the old terminators prior to the launch of 10th to build into my Deathwatch army. I guess I can still use those. I’ll need to get some more intercessors & assault intercessors to bulk up the ones I built & painted for my Intercession kill team so they can be legal squads. In short, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s frustrating.
I'm torn between buying a bunch of different kits to kitbash a cool Coteaz, and not doing that. Because on the one hand it would be a really fun project, but on the other hand this rewards GW with loads of sales for pushing out a sub-par mini.
I think all the Fomo boxes can be tempting for the right person. It comes down to what minis you already own.
And I agree, if you still have all your spares from putting your Deathwatch army together, it's much less of a massive problem.
@@TabletopImpulse I have a feeling there’ll be a fair few of him on eBay. The previous sculpt is going to be as rare as hens teeth.
So I need to buy this specific chimera for the heavy bolter? The normal one doesn't come with it. It's just the multilaser or heavy flamer.
It's not clear on the website but the chimira does come with a heavy bolter option for the turret. I double checked the instruction manual online.
12:45 do I have to link early 80s slave girl minis on the Discord to prove you wrong? 😜
No, you do not!
4:40 the eagle looks cool... how it is casually feeling up a metal pole?
This is how birds work.
@@TabletopImpulse we usually hang up black Silhouette of other birds so the Cyberbirds of prey do not crash into glass windows or metal poles.
What happened to knightfall! Yes, I’m finally number one!
He downgraded to middle teir. Super fair enough, I do keep canceling Livestreams. But yes, you are now my #1 fan.
Given the amazing stuff we’ve just seen from AMG in their Ministravigansa reveals I don’t think you can say that AMG’s current work is significantly better than what GW are doing right now.
Hard to defend at this particular moment! But I am hopeful that this inquisitor model is simply a horrible blip.
I thought the same but.. man, just don’t. KT is so much better designed and made. 40K is just a total cluster F usually. They really need to improve so much.
If you want to play 40k, it's because you want to a) Paint an army including tanks and walkers and stuff. b) Enjoy the spectacle of having a whole army on the field c) Spend 4-5 hours just chilling and playing toy soldiers with your friends - but it is a worse *game* then Kill Team.
New coteaz is so bad IMO...
I actually can't find anyone saying they like it. I think it may be an objectively bad miniature.
I think they picked the wrong model to dial back on details after mass outcry for having too complex details on basic models.
To honor Kill Team Cassius I played a game of Deathwatch Overkill with my son today. 🫡
Nice!
