As a fellow green bean casserole enjoyer he is on point declaring it the best thanksgiving dish. This was the fanciest ive ever seen it made and it looks delicious. The best part is that it reheats really well for leftovers.
Evan's Cooking Show is something I didn't know I needed.. this video is fantastic. The puns, the camera angle, the actual usefulness of the recipe (I will probably try to make this soon).. incredible! Keep it up, Evan!
Well I am very impressed! I have never seen or heard of anyone making this recipe without Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup and French’s Canned Fried Onions. You did it all from scratch and it looks delicious! And in that gorgeous kitchen wearing a nice sweater. More for sure.
Evan! I have to admit, I never cared for Green Bean Casserole, but you made it look delicious.... So I'm gonna try it... Love this... we need more cooking from you...
I watched and enjoyed this video when it first came out because I am in the UK and have heard of green bean casserole before but absolutely no idea what was it in. I wanted to come back and say I have since made it for 2 different sets of people and they all really enjoyed it. Especially my husband who loves green beans so new ways to have them is great :) The veggie friend I made it for over New Years wants to make it herself. So massive thank you :)
I don't think I've ever seen anybody make a green bean casserole from scratch. It's always with canned/frozen beans, canned mushroom soup, and prepackaged french fried onions. It's still good, but I'd bet Evan's is better. Too bad you don't have a house full of roommates to try it on though
I'm planning to use tinned soup! Everything else fresh though. Well the green beans, with it being midwinter I might have to use frozen unless I buy ones flown in from Kenya. Those air miles,on the other hand it makes jobs for people which they like. I saw on tv. Better than no job. A dilemma.
It is not that I didn't know that you could make it all from scratch but I had never had it done that way in my actual life. Everything has always been from a can/container. This looked so good.
My exact thoughts haha always been canned green beans, canned condensed cream of mushroom soup, and pre-made fried onions. This version is so much fancier and bright.
Right!! I'm sure if I thought about it, I would have come to the conclusion that all these things could be made from scratch, but the only way I've seen it made is from cans. Although when you're cooking, a meal as big as Thanksgiving, I think the cans probably make this more realistic time wise.
This is such a great video concept - taking a dish that's popular in America and adjusting it for what you can find in the UK! As an American dating a Brit, I'd love to see more videos like this!!
Thank you for showing how Green Casserole should be cooked. When my American-daughter-in-law lived with us here in the UK she made this dish on Thanksgiving Day with tinned green beans, Campbell's Condensed Mushroom soup and a packet of dried Crispy Onions. It wasn't the nicest casserole I have tasted but as not to upset her we said it was good. She also cooked a savoury dish to go with the dinner that had Marsh mellow's on top!!! But I must admit the roast potatoes, turkey and veg were excellent.
As an American who didn’t get to go home for thanksgiving, this was a nice reminder of what home always tastes like. My dad makes green bean casserole all the time, but the Frenchie’s/Cambell/Green Giant version (if you know what I mean).
Those crispy onions though…. Mmm. The homemade kind you made looks really good!! Green bean casserole or stuffing is my favorite Thanksgiving side. Keep making cooking videos-this is great.
We always made the thanksgiving staples from everything canned but I really want to try making my own green bean casserole for Christmas this year, looks so good
Im going to make one of that for my Christmas Day lunch to go with whatever meaty or fishy item I choose. It looks really nice. I can cook that. But because I'm one on my own I will reduce the quantities greatly. I'd never heard of this. I've heard of turkey and pumpkin pie but not this one. I will have to watch the video again and make notes. Your kitchen is very nice Evan. It looks very professional. I bet you could be a chef or cook in an eating place if you were stuck for a job.
I'm lactose intolerant so instead of using buttermilk (which does not exist lactose-free apparently) I just mix some yoghurt with milk until the texture is about right. It works really well!
I loved this video! Please make more cooking videos :) I’ve always wondered what green bean casserole was and now I know while being entertained at the same time. Keep it up!
Maybe ill try to make it on my birthday this year which is on the 19th. This dish was by far my favorite as a kid. Cant believe that the brits dont make this dish. Wow.
Yes, we WILL make this with Christmas Dinner. Thanks! I made pumpkin pie for relatives in UK when I first came over and the question was: Is that savory or sweet? Yikes, they had no clue and they LOVED it. It goes particularly well with Co-op apple ice cream, if you can get it. So if you like you might do a pumpkin pie since although they are more common now people still really don't understand them!
Brilliant video. I'm from the UK and seeing green bean casserole being made by others it looked frightening. A tin of soup, a tin of bean and a packet of onions. You homemade version looks like it actually has appeal.
It was such a nice change to watch this cooking video from you. (I hope I phrased that okay?)Things have been so stressful lately so seeing your bean video pop up.. perfect timing! Thank you for taking the time to put this together and to share your lovely energy and puns with us
Our family has never had green bean casserole for Thanksgiving. I’ve actually never had it but I bet I would love it. We also don’t have mashed potatoes either and have rice with our turkey and gravy. So I guess we’re just controversial.
I've never made this from scratch - always used a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup and a bag of frozen green beans. I'm betting that yours tastes significantly better
In my family we never had green bean casserole at Thanksgiving, but did have it often the rest of the year, so I guess that would solve your issue with it being "only a Thanksgiving dish." Plus ours had a rotini pasta base.
@@evan Yeah! I didn't know you could make it without! The pasta makes it more filling, I think. And my mom makes it with little ham cubes, though I leave those out
@@evan Maybe it is an Italian thing but my grandmother would not call it a casserole without a pasta base. She would call what you made something like “Green beans and fried onions baked in a creamy mushroom sauce” NOT a green bean casserole.
This has been the most popular dish with my British guests at my Thanksgivings in the UK. Pumpkin pie, on the other hand, has gotten decidedly mixed reviews!
I'm not American, but I have made thanksgiving dinners a couple of times and everyone loved this part. Don't think either of mine contained mushrooms though, I think the recipe I used involved sour cream. My sister is now married to a Floridian, so I've been trying to teach her some of the recipes.
I always get roasted for loving green bean casserole, especially at my work thanksgiving potluck 😢, it’s my all time fave. I’m also trying to introduce Mac and cheese to my family’s thanksgiving because they are weirdly against it.
That's interesting. In India, the Engljsh word "buttermilk" is used for yogurt (called "curds" here) from which butter has been separated. It is sour and fat free . I always thought it was the same in North America. In fact, I have often used Canadian store bought buttermilk as a replacement for buttermilk in Indian recipes.
I'm American and have had Thanksgiving dinner with a few different families from a few different states/regions, and I've literally never seen a green bean casserole in real life, let alone tried it. (The first time I cooked a Thanksgiving dinner though, my mom gave me a recipe and told me I had to have one because it's expected everywhere, but I refused, and I'm pretty sure no one who attended missed it, or had ever had one before either. I did cook regular green beans.)
At the start of the video before you show me anything I’m gonna tell you, you have to use canned green beans otherwise, don’t taste right fresh ones are too crunchy, but that’s my own personal taste that’s not the rule of food😂
So to peel garlic faster. You can get a slice of garlic and use the flat side of your knife to do a quick crush. After that it takes 3 seconds to peel it. We make a lot of curries so this way makes sense to us and let's the garlic flavour out better. But if you are making linguine for example, you'll want the garlic shape then you don't want to do this method.
Looks delicious! For the sake of your back, though, please do something to make that movable island a little higher, especially if you're going to use it for chopping
To answer your question about ovens, I do not have a fan oven. I thought the same as you until I moved into my current flat. It doesn't actually cook things very well so I put everything in at the max temp it can go.
You're making it more British friendly, which I can appreciate, but as an American, I have questions ... LOL "Onions are like photoshop layers, ok?" Yes, I don't understand either, but I like them both. Oh, the puns. The puns! They hurt! Don't stop. "Deglaze the pan, little for him, little for me." Yup, that's how I cook, too. I absolutely love green bean casserole, the problem for me has become that the "french fried onions" you can buy prepared make me sick the last couple of years. So now, thanks to you, I have info on making my own fried onions (presumably without whatever preservatives or such that make me sick).
More cooking videos please! This looks very tasty. I might cook this to go with Christmas dinner (although most people in my family don’t like mushrooms) so might be an effort jus for me. Americans - has anyone tried it with a tin of chicken or veg soup instead of mushroom?
I don't really like cream of mushroom, and have used cream of chicken before and I really enjoyed it! I think cream of vegetable would be closer and probably taste just as good

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy are the star. Nothing else matters really for thanksgiving.

Surely you can just curdle lacto-free milk?
@@RichardBarclay I've tried it, but the texture is never right and I don't really like the taste when you mix milk with vinegar or lemon juice 🤷♀
The Oatly single cream works great for this. I made a vegan version this year and you'd never know the difference.
This is why we have green bean casserole for Christmas and Easter too!
He can cook properly. I'm impressed 👍
I think I may try getting into cooking next year. I'll use this as the start of a playlist.

Huh! I don't have much issue getting ahold of butter milk, but the lemon juice thing was very interesting! Good to know!
Adding a lil acidity to a soup at the end is usually a good shout!
Will definitely try this recipe and please more cooking videos.
As an European I love all Thanksgiving dishes except for green bean casserole!
...add the milk of a lemon... I really enjoyed this!
It’s nice that recipes in the UK give you the temperature adjustment if you are using a convection oven.
