Thanks for the review Darren! Ordered a HS2 and it arrived last week. I agree, this is a fantastic headlamp. The buck driver, rotary switch, the high CRI floods combined with both a spot and red leds make this a must have headlamp. Also Sofirn improved their head mount as well. I really disliked the rubber rings on their other headlamps. If Sofirn decides to make a HS21 Max with a 21700 battery and a warmer version spot emitter (4000 to 5000K) I'll be in first in line for another purchase. Take care my friend!
Hey Gus, the max version would be a great idea! I remember you were into your microscopes... What do you think of this? www.kentfaith.com/GW45.0066 They might provide me one to review :D it'd be cool to do some videos of the organisms etc I find too.
Nice review, thanks! I still love my Sofirn SP40 that I've used to walk my dogs every day for the last 4+ years, but the buck driver, USBC, high CRI flood and the red beam option have got me very tempted!
Nice review. I’ve really enjoyed mine even more than my C2 Pro Nichia. The flood is just as nice and artifact free. The headband is more comfortable and the light is just easier to use. The HS21 is quickly becoming my go to light for everything. Close up work with a smooth high CRI flood is an absolute delight.
I would like that as well. Hey, mine came with 6 extra clips for the headband. They were in a separate box. Very unusual. They give you the ability to suspend something from the headband but I have no idea what they are for. Did you get them?
Daylight is sparse this time of year, so I've been using my HS21 for weekly household chores and property maintenance throughout the week. Also just used the light for 2-3 hours non-stop while working on a vehicle. So far it's been fantastic. The included mount and head strap works well and the variety of lighting options serve any purpose you may need a headlamp for. Being able to easily angle the headlamp down is a big deal, as most cheap headlamps I've used in the past have me tilting my head down just to look at something directly in front of me, not an issue with the Sofirn. Plenty bright for it's size, and the runtimes are even better now that I've thrown a 4000mAh cell in the light. Can't recommend it enough for the price.
Amazing light isn't it. "Piercing the darkness" has noted the plastic rings breaking off after extending removing and installation of the HS21. Sofirn have taken note on their next batch but I've heard have with faulty headbands have received a replacement. I keep mine installed so ok so far.
This is undoubtedly an interesting headlamp. However, when choosing a headlamp for 18650 batteries and having a red light, I preferred the HS42. It seems to me that the presence of moving parts reduces the reliability of the device, and the T-shape reduces ergonomics. Of course, the ability to quickly switch between modes and the central location of the light source are useful functions, but not at the expense of reliability and convenience. I generally consider remote control an unnecessary function. I had experience using a headlamp with a remote control. Most often, I forcibly turned off this function. Since it was triggered not only by hand movement, but also by nearby objects. In my opinion, it would be better to place the rotating mode selector on the tube itself containing the battery, and not around the LED block. It would be especially good if the rotating element contained a magnet, and the body had a sensor, approximately as it is arranged on flashlights for underwater use. As a dream, I can imagine not only red, but also UV LEDs and some solution that eliminates the use of a rubber plug for the USB connector. It is very desirable to have stepless adjustment, which is not available in this flashlight, as, by the way, in the HS 42, which is sad.
@@madcosta Look to Wurkkos, which is also owned by the same umbrella as Sofirn. I know they have at least a couple that come with warmer high CRI LEDs. I don't have any of their headlamps, but I have a FC11C with a 519a at 5000K (my choice, there were more options), and it's fantastic. I don't know if they have anything down to 2700k though. Might have to de-dome yourself.
Close to perfect, I wish the flood modes were a bit weaker, like 30 / 80 / 250 And a version with 4500k spot... or a cheaper one without the gimmicky motion sensor
thanks for posting this i am interested in waterproof and operating temperature stats - this is rated at IP 66 but what about that usb c port and small rubber cover at the end of the flashlight ? is that waterproof do you know ?
i know you're in Australia so is the affiliate link supposed to work if i am trying to buy from amazon uk ? the link goes to a different flashlight - thanks
Except for the driver, i still think the HD50 is better. Also i really don’t understand why they don’t use a glass lens, any ideas? (Except for saying a few pennies ofc)
Someone also suggested a 21700 version of this light which would make it more comparable with the HD50. I like that one too but runs too damn hot on high modes.
@ 21700 version would be nice. personally i find the spotlight on the HD50 absurdly bright so i barely use high or turbo, and mine only gets hot in spotlight. Plus in in my colder climate its not an issue at all.
I have received it and used it last night. I love it! Very noticeable improvements compared to my Wurkkos HD15 which I have been using for a while. Main improvements. Flood is smooth and 5000k comfort. Spot throws very well for a headlamp with the sft40 with 6500k.
It's my main headlamp these days :D as someone mentioned, I think adding a secondary rotary switch to the side to adjust brightness + upgrade to a large metal switch... That would seal the deal.
REVIEWS THAT ARE PAID OR GOT ITEM FOR FREE IS NOT REVIEWS IT'S CALLED COMMERCIAL. This headlight is shit. better ones have long leds, that lights up a lot of spca not some one crappy spot like you are digging some coal.
Long LEDs? What is that? Lights up a lot of space? What's the point in a spotlight if you're just going for more flood? I own a few headlamps, and this one has the most narrow beam compared to the others, especially for this size. It throws the furthest, and that's what a spotlight is. If you meant long LEDs like an SBT-90 on a headlamp, you're dreaming 😂

This headlamp is underrated... ! Keen to see their next version. Maybe with a second rotary switch.

@@keithcharles2113 sounds like clips for helmet or hardhat mounting maybe

Hope the next version will replace the IR sensor with a rotary knob for level adjustment. It will be the best headlamp out there.
That'd be the first. :D
@@DarrenYeoYTPlease make it happen. Request this one with Sofirn hehehe.

The rotary head is magnetic, same as dive lights and you don't see those failing too often.
Is the red light the same hue as the D25lr? Thanks.
I'm not sure, haven't got that light.
If there was a version with a warmer CCT I would buy it.
The flood beam is slightly warmer. I don't mind cooler spot beams as long as they have good range.
@@DarrenYeoYT Almost 5000k still. I like warmer emitters in general. For me would be 2700k on flood to use around the camp and 4000k on spot.

I didn't notice it actually!

Replace that motion sensor with another rotary switch that controls brightness and perfect.

It'd be fine for rain but I wouldn't submerge this light. 😅

Nope.
how do you think it compares with wurkkos HD15?
This one is better, because it has regulated output on all channels! Also more advanced functions like the rotating switch.
Wurkkos ts11 is the best torch imo I love the thing I use it for fishing to see where my cast lands
