    Someone mentioned on the Hearthstone Forums/Reddit that Purify could be an amazing card if it was, "2 Mana: Silence a minion and draw a card, if it's a friendly minion, draw 2 cards." Basically a 2 Mana Arcane Intellect which requires a minion to work.

    • @nebelung1

      That would've been a lot better, priest could really use some consistent card draw.

    • @Dihmz

      ben brode talked about how he wanted purify to be a fun card and that when at 1 mana everyone just played it for the card draw (ie silencing their noneffect/battlecry minions) and he talked about how it would be too powerful if it would just silence a minion

      are you nuts? 2 cards for 2 mana and it can negate a negative effect..
      you alway play you cards when you get the most out of it..
      its like you flamestrike an empty board on 7 and say its a useless card because it never hits something..
      the silence is supposed to be an upside when you play it

    • @ChristinaWintherLolk
      @ChristinaWintherLolk 8 лет назад +8

      How would it be powerful? Mages can Coin Arcane Intellect on turn 2 or play it on turn 3 and there's no cost to that.
      If you're playing Priest, Purify would be useless when Coining it on turn 1 or playing it on turn 2, because it requires a minion on the board, where as you don't always get a low cost minion from mulliganing your hand.

      you can only build it in a future tawernbrawl though.. purify is no warrior card. it would obviously be too op ohterwise, you could geve your charge minions +1 attack and than silence them for the ultimate unpredictabillaty

      That's looking pretty unlikely with part 1 still have 2 and a half times as many views. I think people looking for videos on purify are looking for videos like Kripp's which are made solely for the purpose of slamming the card for being crappy instead of actually giving analysis or counter-arguments.

    Your comments on Priest of the Feast are pretty good, but you didn't consider its glaring issue: It's a 4 drop. Priest already has so much competition in that slot that unless PotF is a 4-mana 7/7 level batshit crazy card (which it isnt) it just isnt going to make the cut vs Auchenai, Shadow Madness, Shifting Shade, Elise, the 4 drop Dragons, and those are just the commonly run ones. There's even more competition in C'thun Priest, you can make an argument for Shadow Word: Horror in a control oriented build, Violet teacher or Defender in a board presence build etc. Too much competition in its mana slot, maybe in a board presence priest it would see play but as the only variant of that that really comes close to working is the dragon archetype, with several important cards at that slot and a pretty strict curve, that seems unlikely to me.
    Onyx bishop, cant fault you there really but i will say that you're banking on drawing certain cards at certain times and not having 1/2 drop minions to pull from the effect, making your early game a little poor and playing into one of Priest's biggest issues (needing to draw specific cards/combos or just flat out losing, most known examle being Auchenai/CoH by turn 4 or bust vs aggro)
    Purify... I think you're just wrong in so many regards on that card. Lets start:
    Saying cards shouldn't all be top tier competitive is fine, but a card that's so inefficient and slow it probably harms the very gimmick deck it's trying to enable is just not OK. Also saying people would be OK with it in Shaman is like saying people were OK with Bolster (Bearing in mind PATRON was a thing back then, and this was pre-Warsong nerf Patron to boot). A lot of them weren't. It takes up a slot in the set, you get it in packs in Bolster's case and it as commons they both UTTERLY FUCK those classes in arena. And at the time of these cards release's their respective classes were/are non-classes in arena already, this is just another slap in the face.
    'A cool card to figure out the puzzle of how to use it'? There's no puzzle of how to use it, it literally only has one use and that is in a self silence priest. As for working out the finer points of constructing that deck, I'm going to go with 'Remove Purify' as being one of the successful optimisations. The whole point of any self silence deck is to get many insanely powerful minions down, and negate their drawbacks, using this normally to generate an obscene amount of tempo and win off of that. Purify is anything but tempo, and a very poor value proposition, therefor actively harming the deck.
    Also, once again you talk about Barnes, Volazj and yet more inconsistent, 'I draw this card by X turn or I lose' situations. Sure, if your draw Barnes, play him on turn 4, and he pulls a 1/1 copy of, let's say N'zoth (just thinking that Barnes might actually see some play in N'zoth Priest). You purify it next turn. Welp, on turn 5 you buffed a 1/1 to a 5/7 and drew a card and still have 3 mana left over, that's pretty damn good. You know how often thats going to happen? Not very, especially in a deck that actually runs Barnes, as you'll probably want to run cards that are mostly powerful effect minions with him (think Deathrattle, Rag/Ysera etc.) Playing Barnes in dedicated silence priest would be ok, but you're just relying on your draw being amazing too much at that point.
    Purify may be another silence effect, but I think in standard Priest has lost 2 of the cards core to that deck, 1 being Wailing Soul, which was unfathomably better for that deck than purify (4 mana 3/5 that silences all your own minions? Yes please), and the other being owl, which while still playable in standard is not nearly as powerful as it was, providing much less tempo than it used to, and being far less flexible.
    Considering all attempts at Priest Decks for standard aren't just not top tier, but the worst of the worst (Priest has tier 4 on tempo storms meta snapshot all to itself ,and while tempo storm should be taken with a bit more than a pinch of salt it's still useful in measuring the viability of various decks and how well a class/archetype is doing), I think a BAD gimmick card for a gimmick deck in a class that cant make a single deck that can even do reasonably well against Paladin and Rogue (which are also pretty bad right now let me remind you) is a little bit of a slap in the face dont you think? And as for wild, well priest doesn't need help over there, so maybe if someone wants to try and play gimmicks in wild they can get absolutely crushed by wild decks, I'm not stopping them.
    Saying it shouldn't cost 0 is fine, that would be too powerful as just a cycle. Saying it shouldn't cost 1 is just wrong. Remember you have to play it on a friendly minion, or you don't play it at all. This means you have to have a minion on the board you don't mind silencing, as a priest, and that's not exactly a common situation. I think its entirely fair to compare it to Power Word: Shield, in regards to its cost. PW:S can be played even if you ave no minion (Target an opponents minion) in desperate situations, and I cant see a situation where +2 HP on one of your own minions is a bad thing for a priest. Purify is more restrictive as a cycle, and has a poor to neutral effect on the minion it's used on unless in a deck built around the silence theme, and if you build that sort of deck I don't see why it couldn't be more powerful than PW:S, as you essentially had to build around it for that to be the case.
    About the point on how an Ancient watcher on 2 into purify on 3 works, that's fine and all getting a 4/5 that can already fight on turn 3, but that took all of turn 2 and probably all of turn 3. That isn't great. Flamewreathed Faceless and Totem Golem work because whilst they take up some of the next turn when played on curve, they don't take up so much as to make it hard to use your leftover mana on that next turn (and thus in a way make themselves cost extra). Purifying a Watcher turn 3 can be seen as the watcher having been played with the ability to attack but also overload 2. overloading for 2 on a turn with only 3 to spend as a Priest, you are unlikely to have a 1 mana play along with that very specific combo of cards (i cant see PW:S or Northshire in a deck based on self silence somehow, dunno why...) So that Watcher now has overload 3. and nobody would play that in Shaman, so why would they in Priest? Also once again you're talking about a highly inconsistent best case scenario for the card.
    TL;DR I think Kibler is a little off on PotF and OB, and completly, 100% dead wrong on Purify.

    • @lilyjackson6460
      @lilyjackson6460 8 лет назад +3

      +foxclown if you don't see my point in that then I don't see how I can explain it to you.
      For a silence priest, wailing souls effect is as good or better than purify. and wailing soul isn't a colossal tempo drop.

    • @lilyjackson6460
      @lilyjackson6460 8 лет назад +4

      1/2 cards isnt going to fix that, and if you lose the board as a board control based deck (which silence priest is) you lose the game period.

    • @daracaex
      @daracaex 8 лет назад

      That's not exactly true. Wailing Soul is a body that's worth a card. So really, in comparison with purify, the card you draw off wailing soul is a 3/5 for 2. And also you're silencing multiple of your minions at once.
      I do think Kibler's right that Purify isn't "the worst card in the game" people are saying it is, and that having more of these effects can help enable the gimmik decks, but there's just no contest comparing Purify to Wailing Soul.

    But is the 3/6 Priest of the Feast really "hard to kill" in a meta where every viable deck is teched to beat a 7/7 on turn 4?
    Regardless always fun to hear your thoughts on the cards!

      I feel the answer is yes because they will not spend the tool used to deal with that Faceless 7/7 thing on a 3/6 unless they're desperate since they expect to need it to deal with your actual win condition.

    • @Sadtv12
      @Sadtv12 8 лет назад

      Do you really want to spend removal every time on a 3/6 when your opponent has some very dangerous cards in their deck? 6 health isn't very hard to kill, but it might not be worth it since you have limited removal cards in a deck. It is hard to kill because it requires a significant investment, not because 6 health is an unkillable amount of health.
      Do you have to kill it eventually? Probably.
      Is it that hard to kill? Not really.
      Is it worth using a removal card to kill something with 3 attack? Maybe, but it might leave some decks open to being punished by a much heavier minion.

      Just as a note (even though I don't think you are correct at all), PW:S is probably one of the best cards in the whole game, probably in the top 5.
      So making a "worse" PW:S is not a thing to complain about.

    • @Fressbremse
      @Fressbremse 8 лет назад +1

      Calling it a worse PW:S is the wrong approach. It is a 2 mana, not a 1 mana and has an almost exclusively selfharming effect. You can't even go for the desperate draw, when you're looking for that CoH or Auchenai to come back, because in that situation you wouldn't have a minion and play and thus can't play your shitty Purify. Feels more like Sacrifical Pact.

      ***** no, as I explained to someone else, I don't have a problem with just lightbomb it's the cards in naxx and BRM that make it broken. you can't play around both Grim Patron or Sludge Belcher and the lightbomb. you get higher attack minions to deal with those guys and lightbomb punishes you for making a deck that has a chance against warriors. as long as BRM is in standard, a new lightbomb is not welcome.

      No, because purify cycles itself. You are at a net 1 card used. It might be bad in the sense that you need to "assemble" the combo for consistency. That is why in the future when more enablers (silences) and more things to be silenced (ancient watchers) get printed, it could become a real deck.

    Brian, keep in mind that this also has effects outside of constructed. I agree that cards should not always be amazing, and that seemingly strange or different cards are important both for certain players and to keep things fresh, but the impact this particular card has in arena (where purify will be seen a great deal due to offering bonuses) means it will have profound effects on a class that is already lackluster in that domain. I think it would be less of an issue if this were released in an expansion rather than in an adventure, where it takes up a disproportionate amount of space.
    Even if purify finds a useful home post-Thursday, its impact on arena will not go away for quite awhile, and while Blizzard shouldn't (and obviously does not) make decisions with respect cards with arena constantly at the forefront, this one is quite profound it its impact.

    • @pixywings7715

      Purify is useful if it costed 0 mana. Blizzard complained that purify was used just to cycle (because Power Word: Shield isn't used for that now, and Power Word: Shield costs 1 instead of 2 as well as being a better card).

    • @benhanson4199

      I dont think the constant comparison with Power Word Shield is entirely fair as that's one of the best cards in the entire game, and a card would not need to be at that ridiculous of a power level to see constructed play. I think purify could have some potential at 1 mana IMO, doesnt need to be 0 like some people are saying

    I'm actually running an experimental Shadow Healing Priest deck. For the first 3-4 turns of any game, all you have to worry about is not dying. Using Flash Heal, Hero Power to keep up your health, and Shadow Word Horror, Auchenai+Circle of Healing, Excavated Evil, etc to keep the board clear. By then, your life total should be pretty low. That's when you start pumping out singular Tournament Medics, Priests of the Feasts, and Darkshire Clerics to get your health up really high. Continue just wiping the board and using Entombs and Shadow Word Pain and Death to necessary minions. Come turn 7, just play your Shadow Form card and go to town with it. The deck also has one Silence card in case you need to turn your Auchenai off for some quick heals.
    Blizzard gave priests so many tools to keep their own life up. I say we priests players own that shit.

    Totally agree and have said many times, Velen's Chosen should be made a Core Set Card for Priest. It was just that early game Tempo necessary, given the Hero Power does so little for what can be played early. Think it would make a big difference. The other thing I think would be good, is to actually make the Priest Hero power add Health even if health is at 30, much like Warrior and armour. That 2-4 added health in early game, much less with Justicar (as shown in Warrior) could be the subtle difference in allowing other cards give more variance in what, when and how to play on either Hero or minions...and still would separate Priest from Warrior in that other card heals would only have affect if below 30, not increasing Health limiting it to just the Hero power itself. One could then Heal to 30, use Hero power to get more, but not by use of after effect getting there by Hero power then a Heal card.

    Also consider using shadow madness then silencing the creature you took with purify. Or being able to have Rag the Firelord shoot then silence and swing the next turn. You can also silence an auchenai if you need to start healing rather than hurting. Maybe even using it to silence a corrupted healbot if you don't have an auchenai by the time it is going to die. Purify actually has a lot of possibilities!

    I think one of the biggest things about Onyx Bishop vs resurrect that Kibler overlooked is that you play it on turn 5. On turn 2, you have nothing to resurrect, so resurrect is a dead card. However, on turn 5, you almost certainly will have something to resurrect. You can get back an injured blademaster or one of priests high value 4 drops like Priest of the Feast or Auchenai. If in the future priest gets an actually valuable 2 drop, then the combos with Onyx Bishop can make priest actually viable in my opinion.

    Priest of the Feast is okay. It's basically a 3/6 Taunt that maybe gains 3 health.
    Onyx Bishop I think is a sleeper. Resurrect really sucks being so low mana because it forces you to be playing out 2 cards a turn, and the 2nd card is always going to be a mediocre play because Resurrect is eating 2 Mana... and wow Kibler just said all this as I'm typing it! Onyx Bishop makes good turns in itself.

      Purify is a complete insult though.
      Power Word: Shield is usually better, and costs 1 less. Yes, there are combos, but if you want big Tempo combos... you'd use the 0 Mana Silence, because you're not going to wait for 2 more Mana.
      I agree that having it cycle at 1 Mana is wrong, but that just makes me feel that these two effects were simply not worth printing together on 1 card.

    - Silence:
    *Silence* a minion
    0 mana cost and can be cast on *any* minion.
    - Ancestral Knowledge:
    *Draw* 2 cards.
    *Overload* for (2).
    Costs 2 mana (cheap card draw) with no *condition* to be met in order to use it. Has a *drawback* (overload).
    - Purify:
    *Silence* a friendly minion.
    *Draw* a card.
    Costs 2 more mana than Silence while having a *condition* to be met for usage, draws 1 less card than Ancestral Knowledge while still costing 2 mana. Has a situational *drawback* (possibly having to silence a minion you don't want to silence).
    I think it would be safe to decrease Purify's cost to 1 mana, since it only draws 1 card and has a 0 cost effect attached to it that also has a *condition* that needs to be met before it can be used (having a minion in play to silence) and can potentially have a *drawback* (undesirable target).

    I would like Purify if it had another positive effect like destroy all enemy secrets. No class would ever want this to be included in their card pool. Yes, the fact that Priest got this and it's an Adventure card adds fuel (a lot of it) to the fire, but saying that a card like Purify is "printed" is alright since it's just going to be included in fun/wacky/niche/unicorn decks is ridiculous. They said that their "play-testing" team had a lot of fun with the new Silence Priest archetype and that's why this card got though, well apparently the team they has been living under a rock since Silence Priest has been around since release and that didn't get anywhere. There's a lot of other cycle cards that I'd run over this, and the fact that you can only use it on a friendly minion is the most mind-boggling aspect of this card.

    I think Onyx Bishop might have been a lot more interesting if it was instead read something like "Discover a friendly minion that has died this game" It seems fairly good now and I'm excited for it, but having greater control of interesting random effects could be amazingly fun to play with. Anyways, with the current look of the priest cards in this adventure, it seems that Blizzard is repushing one of their original ideals about Priest, in which it is a combo class that is a little less conventional, similar to some Rogue decks like Miracle, or one that's like "gang up Emporer Thaurrisan, stall out the game, burst with spells". No other class has or could consider running a silence based archetype, and with Priest of the Feast, we could have more consistently powerful Yogg Priest decks

  • @Spleenatron9

    I think what was said at the end of the video is actually much more important than the short amount of time it was given would indicate. in terms of the ancient watcher + purify combo, Brian already said that the 4/5 for 4 over 2 turns isn't the same as a chillwind yeti because it can attack early and he's right. but there's actually a better comparison to be made. pretend, as previously stated, that this combo was just a single shaman card. a 4/5 for 2 that has overload 2. when you think about it that way it becomes much more enticing, although it's still outclassed by totem golem because totem golem still leaves you with 2 mana on turn 3, whereas this only leaves you with 1. that being said, there's something very important to note here; priest ISN'T shaman. there has been a problem with priest and its lack of 2 drops for a while and that problem was more or less patched up for a bit with museum curator, until all the good deathrattle cards were rotated out of standard. now priest is left with pretty much nothing on turn 2, so even if they had to skip turn 3, the possibility of a turn 2 play isn't a bad prospect. it may be less efficient than the old ancient watcher + silence combo but it also cycles a card, which is important when you're fighting for early board advantage; it ensures that you still have enough answers in your hand so you don't have to rely on topdecking. I think the card is really being slept on by a lot of players, not just top players, and I don't think even Brian is seeing its full potential. then again, we never will until the card actually comes out.

  • @soulkutu

    The problem is the following. And this problem exists not only in hearthstone but is more prevalent in YuGiOh!.
    When someone makes a fun deck, they are not going to have fun if you basically jump in front of them and tell them your deck is only for rubbish rank 25 players. In the latter game I mentioned, there are probably hundreds of good combination whose ace cards can beat even the strongest tier 0 ace cards but their problem is that they are not reliable and may have bad starting hands.
    In the same spirit, in hearthstone I can make some form of taunt bolster warrior which will only win by crazy outtempoing at the first 4 turns with a godlike starting hand. But my fun will be cut short every time I am reminded that my deck is useless outside of casual play. That's why blizzard needs to find the thin balance of making all decks competitive.
    In my humble opinion this does not lie to the cards but to the deck. Anyone can fill his deck with high value cards and win 50% of the time. If hearthstone had a deck size of 60 you would literally be forced to include some "bad" cards which would tone all decks down to a playable level. And don't try to consider this as a "milling" counter because hearthstone has no true milling effects, only a byproduct of the small deck size.

      I think it's best when strong cards/abilities are validated by game lore. So priest has a bunch of cards/abilities based off their holy and shadow specs. What about disc? Make it so you can overheal with disc bubble to, let's say 40. And when you have the bubble, every form of damage you take is reduced by one. Makes a significant improvement, and ties in with bubble/barrier from the characters origins. Bing bang boom, slight improvement.

    The thing I don't like about Priest of the Feast is while it's on the board it really hurts to play one of the few board clears Priest has which is Auchenai/Circle and it's yet another 4 drop for Priest. Is Priest of the Feast's effect really relevant with the current pool of Priest spells? Just off the top of my head, the easiest Priest spells to play are Power Word Shield and Holy Smite. Outside of that, every other Priest spell is pretty situational or fairly expensive.
    Looking at a similar minion effect in Flamewaker, the power behind the +2 random ping are the fact that mage spells for the most part are easily spammed and have significant effect the board state as well. Mirror entity is 1 mana summon two taunts, Arcane blast is 1 mana deal nice spell power damage. In other words, Flamewaker's effect is both easily procced and adds additional snowballing to already strong spell effects.
    Priest removal spells aren't spammed. They're very specific in that they're single target conditional removals. The most spammable spells are the ones that already factor in some form of healing such as Flash Heal, and Circle of Healing. The problem is that using these spells can only be used to effect the board in situations that would cause Priest of the Feast's healing to damage your own face.
    I just don't see PoF staying on the board long enough to have a really relevant effect, and I see it getting in the way of pulling off necessary Auchenai removal turns.

    I am think, that Purify can be nice if this card can silence a minion on board and HAND. Turn 2: purify your blademaster (which in hand) and draw a card with this. Turn 3: place a 4/7 on board.

    StrifeCro's Yogg Priest has actually been proven somewhat strong on ladder. I'm interested in how these pro-Yogg cards will push it.

    Purify should read : Silence a minion. If it's friendly, Draw a card.
    Then it would atleast have the flexability to be used on enemy minons at the cost of not getting the card draw.
    Change the text to this, or the card will never see play.
    (A 2 mana card draw is similar to warlocks heropower, so the card could atleast cycle itself if there is nothing to silence.
    Effectivly making your deck smaller, which is actually a good thing aslong as you don't reach fatigue.)

    you could steal an opponent's minion, purify it and at the end of their turn it goes back

    I think people tend to forget that cards like Eerie Statue and/or Ancient Watcher exist when they think of Purify. The card is not great, but I think there is niche play potential. With that being said, I think that this card was a lazy choice with the way that Silence works in HS. I kind of wish it worked more like Reincarnate where it just said something like "Re-Summon a friendly minion. Draw a card." Then you'd get a heal and a potential cleanse of a negative effect but rather than get a deathrattle trigger you draw a card and you wouldn't be looking for the tortured ways to make Silence a beneficial effect.

    Make Priest have a total of 40 health, while still starting at 30 and the class would be so much better. Like the hero power would not be dead at turn 2. You could do somewhat the same warrior is doing, by going above 30hp to prevent beeing bursted down. Seeing as Priest is really weak at the moment, this could make the class somewhat competative.

    Actually, priest got a really good early minion from the natural cards: Arcane Anomaly + Power Word: Shield.
    Turn one with coin: 2/5 for 2 mana
    Turn two without coin: 2/4 for 2 mana
    Also, Netherspite Historian is a 2 mana 1/3, discover a dragon.
    These two guys can be sticky, or stickier than similar 1/3's, like Mana Wyrm, Voidcaller.

      The problem with 1/3 is that priest don't have ping. Main issue is that ladder consist mainly 3 classes, hunter zoo and shaman. All of them are super aggressive. 1/3 +generate value is not helping at all since it trades only few of their minions and priest lack of attack buffs. Anomaly on otherwise can be really strong and im going to definetly include it to my priest decks. Anomaly allows you to trade most of aggro minions and still be alive. but yea overall I really like this expansion and nearly all cards. I honestly think that none of them really are not so bad, I think the 1/3 3 mana spider is worst card in deck. U can also use purify to silence that 6 mana creep and draw card.
