Screen Printing and Tile Making with Faile

- Опубликовано: 12 май 2013
- We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Brooklyn-based artists FAILE on their permanent installation, The 104 North 7th Project. The piece consists of thousands of handmade tiles designed by the artists, each individually pressed and painted, and then fired in a wood-burning kiln and shipped to the installation site. The tiles were then applied to the surface of the building by the artists and a team of helpers over several days.
Well known for their explorations of duality through a fragmented style of appropriation and collage, as well as their use of unique materials, FAILE have created a beautiful tapestry of color, giving life and personality to a very plain structure.

I likes these artists. They weren't very into themselves, they were just having fun
It's funny how you follow a street artist(s) for years then you finally see what they look like. Legends!
Brooklyn being beautified with timeless images of modern culture. Plus using all the different techniques stripping, and layering, using different materials as a canvas in sense really brings forth the creativity
graff writers just gonna tag over those tiles soon as they see that wall
Love seeing screen printing used for art purposes!
this is an awesome form of street art
wish they did this in my country
That arcade is fucking mind blowing. I can't believe even the games were art.
This Art Talk was much better than the previous. These people are artist.
I love neon art and I love retro gaming even more, so I really loved that arcade machine gallery they did.
I did screen art when I was 16 now I’m 22 an its wonderful that the art is still not dead. Love it!
Fine art screen printing is alive and well. That is some very cool installation work. I loved doing things like that when I was in art school. How do you fund the Faile work? Come get some Catspit~! ☠
art talk is my favorite vice segment!
he should be a master of bathroom tiles by now. holy jeez!
I see Bob Ross is experimenting with new mediums.
coolest art exhibits ever... truly inspiring!
I love this type of inspirational art! Faile FTW!
Great work !
I love it, the more obscure the image the more interesting. There's a huge history of screen printed games, pin ball machines etc. I worked with a guy that printed the first Atari game consoles in San Jose, all screen printed.
lol what?
Nice to see you here, I'm well on the way to starting my own business that involves printing onto t-shirts and canvas. Thanks for all the great videos!
I want my whole house to look like that amazing neon lit room with the foosball table.
sooo nice.i will recommend it to my friends to watch it
Love the arcade machines and the abstract blocks
I really like some of the ideas these guys have :)
this is just beyond freaking amazinggggggg
You sir has made my day. Thank You
That arcade was dope as fuck.
Dude eating a banana doesn't want to be bugged by duck tails.
Its not reduced my man, its all perspective. REMEMBER.
Everything around you is aRt, what your sitting on, the comp infront of you. Its all ART. But I would say the bestt art is the one where you can sense and feell the PURE raw Passion. Not matter how shitty or attractive it looks. The fact that THIS PEICE of art work was a fucken small figment of someones mind
Nice tiles
Love this work. Perfectly reflects modern culture and society. Art at work- Doing it's job. Great work, guys!
Man I would love to have a few of those tiles.
blew my mind
i like the tiles but i think these guys should add some of those faces and cartoons they used for there other work to really make the tiles pop out. :)
i left captions on and at the end when the music was playing it thought the crash cymbal was speaking lol
Great video, love the backstory
Pretty darn cool.
Good to see ya still got the fire Mister Burnside.
Amazin !
Nice. I like it.
I am inspired!
I like their stuff. very future urban like. the tile thing was nice just cause it lets you imagine all homes getting decorated like that or similarly. would be pretty awesome.
art is awesome
I enjoyed this.
awesome. i like repetition
That fucking arcade is so awesome. big ups.
those posters are pretty dope. i'd like a series of three right next to eachother for my wall.
Ive been doing tile for over 10 years...i would love to be involved in this kind of thing..
How I wish you could go here in the Philippines and make my restaurant a special place :D nice work
Wonderful. :)
all really nice peaces, keep it up
was this was really inspiring :)
Great!
.
He might also be referring to Krink (Kr one)...
Any video on art should have the comments disabled. Because people will always think that their close minded opinion has some weight. I would never say that any type of dedicated artwork is unworthy in anyway. No matter what I get out of the piece personally, because I know that each individual has a different mind viewing it and are generating an entirely experience than what I am from the piece. To call any thoughtful piece of art unworthy of being art in any way shows a persons true idiocy.
Thanks, VICE..
Fantastic
Damn dope shit.
These guys seem neat :3
i am in love, this is so fucking cool! love the arcade, is it video art within the machine?
i like this
I was with it until 08:00 min in when they said their brand logo for faile is the challenger spaceship.
FAILE so sick
epicly laterd is from Vice? i know that episode with Neckface from epicly laterd.. but it belongs to vice magazine?
cool
I love your apartment, Paul.
You mean Jackson Pollock? He posthumously makes more money than you'll ever hope to make, same with receiving recognition.
Faile and Bast ftw!!!
I sincerely want to buy some of tiles, are they mass produced, and how much?
dope
all that shit is sick idk who would disagree with that
"That door is just the jam."
Accidentally punny, these guys.
great video I hope 1 day il get 1 of there prints before they sell out I absolutely love there work gutted they didn't have any thing about the native american in mongolia that would have been great to watch judging by the pics :)
Interesting.
9 mins on some guys putting tiles on a wall..and you know what? it was interesting :P
Enjoy your tiles responsibly.
Great name by the way.
song at 5:15?
where to buy? just to know
👌👌
Are they manufacturing their own tiles?
sweet :)
try not to think of how it is made. Jackson Pollock painted using paint drizzle. He wasn't know for his amazing talent but instead for his new technique or idea that redefined art. So think of how it looks compared to other buildings and the landscape around it. I, for one, think that it looks great. but just completely alone wouldn't impress me too much. Then again we are all allowed our own opinions, so think what you want. I just wanted to explain how an artist might look at it.
nothing surprises me anymore on youtube
Yes. Even though they're using their hands to make art.
"Let's hate them because they try hard. Trying hard ain't cool."
At least they're doing something they love and enjoy it. Where as you're clearly going nowhere.
It's surprising to see so many close-minded viewers on vice videos.
4:42 i wanna go there high :D
DAAAAAAMMMMMMMNNNNNN
What are they doing wrong? Not challenging your statement, just curious.
I agree, they could have made someting amazing, instead its just a bad tiled house..
Ooooooh you got pwnd.
VOXXROMANNA did the block painting back in 2010. peep game.
Can I see what you've created?
Banksy!
what beat starts playing @ 2:23 show me the answer internet
oh ok
They already did.
Still not very clear what they actually do...
Rombout Versluijs art.
Wait until it gets spray painted on, get some layering like they said.
if someone decides to tile their house and only buys the limited amounts of tiles on sale, does that make him an artist too? because I'm pretty sure it would look the same.
mongolian tofu is actually pretty good
they have
