    I grew-up in Barstow. I was 14 when the mall opened, and it was nice to have it local. There weren't many places to buy clothes and shoes in town before that. In the early 80's, I was like 20 and I walked into Kmart and bought a new shotgun and ammo, and carried it home. Try that in California now. It wasn't a big mall like down in the I.E., but it was air-conditioned in the summer and had an indoor fountain and pretty girls to look at. And it was decorated at Christmas, and fun to go there. I have a lot of good memories of that place. Thanks for this video.

      Hey I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for sharing your memories with us. Funny how it used to be air-conditioned because it was pretty hot in there while I was filming like the ac wasn't on or just didn't work. I remember when Kmart sold shotguns and ammo but no you definitely would not be allowed to walk home with any kind of gun these days. Thanks again for sharing your memories

    This has become so standard to see all across America! First off, I can't rationalize why a business would keep their store but only be open a day or maybe two in a calendar week? Even if the rent is paid, money is spent in opening up and occupying the store space with humans plus the money spent getting there. I'd imagine there really are no costumers either?! Place really looks like it is in pretty decent condition too. I really do enjoy these videos Jeff mainly because you bring back memories for me AND your background music is the perfect balm for Mall Waling in my universe! You and Mrs.909 and your Kiddos ALWAYS Deliver The Goods that pump up my Heart and Soul! Thanks for going that extra mile in presentation! MOO Bruddah 👋 "🖤"

      Awww Stuport thank you so much for these kind words I really appreciate it. And I don't understand why these businesses still hold a spot here at the mall, it makes no sense. I remember when I was a kid growing up and working in the mall, if we were not open on time and during all hours the stores would receive a fine. But those were different times 🤷‍♂️. Thanks for the support buddy.

      That's not true. It was busy through the 80's and into the 90's, Walmart opening in Barstow killed MOST of the local-owned business. Now pretty much, in Barstow, if you want it you have to go to Walmart to get it. I hate Walmart....

    After 48 years Greenspoint Mall (nicknamed 'Gunspoint Mall' for its high crime location in north Houston, TX) closes forever today.

    I just watched another video on a mall that was just as dead as this one but is also still open. I guess Netflix did a documentary on the other one. I can't understand how they stay open either. That's beyond me. It's just so weird to think how they were always so full of life before and how it has come to this. Who would have ever though they would all go down this way. I remember dreading going to the mall at Christmas because of all the traffic jams and wall to wall people. Not anymore. It's really just sad.

    • @909Adventures
      @909Adventures  2 месяца назад +3

      Oh yeah, you probably will almost never find a crowded mall these days, not even around Christmas unfortunately. I'll have to find the netflix documentary about the mall, I'm a sucker for a good documentary 😁. But I remember the feeling of going to the mall around Christmas time, it was a big deal and something I looked forward to. Thanks Flo I appreciate you and all of your support.

      I worked at 2 malls in Southern CA in the 80's , Stonewood an open outdoor mall in Downey , CA and Los Cerritos Center in Cerritos, CA , you're so correct about Christmas crowds , It was difficult at times for parking and we had designated employee parking lol
      I checked a couple years ago, both were surprisingly still open and doing well,
      I need to look if Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach, FL is still open, I visited friends there in the 90's a lot of stores were closed then .
      Gee sorry I got carried away reminiscing, I joked I escaped from the padlocked area 😂 I so enjoy this channel 💙🤗

    If the mall owners would work with the stores on leasing costs and security, there would be stores in there. Retired people walk in comfort in malls ,specialize in stores retired people need. And don't be so greedy with leases.

      So correct, I had friends in the 90's who had a huge area in the Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach, FL , they did custom art framing and had an art gallery, it was pathetic how and what they were charged for
