@noneofyourbusiness3288 as a german, being drunk is obligatory and i reported your comment because of inefficiency to the Funk- und Internetübertragungskommentarsektionseffizienzmaximierungsamt, you will receive note by fax.
I hate Raufasertapete! You use tape or blu tack to put up something like a poster and when you are trying to remove it, you will rip pieces of the wallpaper of the wall! xD
Ok, dropping some Bernd lore here, as contrary to other comments, Bernd was not invented for the "Nachtschleife", but he started it. The story goes like this: In the late 90s Tommy Krappweis and Norman Cöster invented Bernd on a Napkin, when they were desperately trying to come up with a good idea for a mascot for the then new children television channel KiKa (Kinderkanal, literally children channel) and Tommy was like "Bread is funny". Bernd started out as one of the three hosts of the show "Tolle Sachen" together with Briegel the bush (a distracted scientist/inventor) and chili the sheep (a stunt sheep). In each show, Chili would start with a crazy stunt and then present Briegel's latest product/invention to the audience. This invention would usually be something that would sound like fun or a good idea at first glance to children, but turn out to be very dangerous or with unwanted side effects in reality. For testing the product, they would always choose a "random" person using a lottery machine, but it would always be Bernd who had to try it. As Bernd was the one to always be hit by the bad stuff, he tried to talk sense into Chili and Briegel but never succeeded, so he had to try whatever Chili and Briegel had for him. Each episode would end with some sort of catastrophe and absolute chaos. So it is kind of understandable that Bernd is rather grumpy and risk averse. In 2003, the Nachtschleife started to fill the time between the official end of the children's program at 9pm until the start of the next day at 6am. In the first version "Bernd in hell", Bernd, Chili and Briegel go on a break, but Bernd can not leave the screen "for technical reasons", i.e. everytime he exits through the right, he reenters from the left and vice versa. Bernd tries everything to exit the screen for about 15 Minutes, but when he finally succeeds, the loop starts again. Later versions of the Nachtschleife got more and more absurd, featuring aliens, fairy tales, a lot of pop culture and as in this example, nerd culture.
I'd like to add/correct some things: The bread is funny line came from Cöster, which prompted Krappweis to draw him as a piece of bread. Before the Bernd in hell short, the Nachtschleife just used clips from Chili TV, a program-block which featured the three predominantly and outside of the Nachtschleife, there were a few more bits of Bernd-related media, such as the self-titled series, which ran during the day and featured the three sharing a house which Bernd inherited and Berndivent, a series of 12 hour long specials parodying other movies, which were released monthly throughout 2006.
This is reeeally big in Germany, yeah Always was shown on the children's channel during night, during "Sendeschluss", roughly meaning something like "end of broadcast"
@sorenwitte7637 Not really. Sandmann plays at 18:55 and is yes, the sign for parents to send kids under the age of 8-10 to bed. Then they have two more hours with program for elder kids from age 10-14 before they turn off at 21:00 and then if you are on the digital satellite channel you get this Bernd das Brot until 6 AM the next morning. On analog satellite normally then Comedy Central or other programs used that channel for broadcasting.
@SpielkindFR Don't worry, we have many programs that also have program at night, you can binch watch Storage wars or documentaries, old movies etc. on several channels. Some also just rebroadcast parts of the daily schedule, for example when you missed the movie at 20:15, you normally can rewatch it at 00:30 to 02:00. And at 5:30 already the morning schedule starts again
Bernd das Brot is the equivalent of a Fever dream on TV especialy since its mostly shown very late at night and one episode is constantly looping till like 4am or so and then ends in a "Jumpscare" to turn off the TV or to a diffrent channel
it runs from 9 PM until 6 AM, then the children program starts again. And if you don't want to watch that, you switch to ARD Alpha for space nerd stuff or to Pro Sieben Maxx for Storage Wars or Gordon Ramsay or to ZDF Info for documentaries, you can also switch to ZDF Neo for Barneby or to Welt and ntv for other documentaries, we also have many other programs that rebroadcast the evening program again and then don't forget the music programs where you can get the newest Schlager, Volksmusik and thanks to Deluxe Music even dance and modern music the whole night.
There are some German youtubers and celebrities that got personal shoutouts by Bernd and they can brag about it to this day. Getting his approval is one of the highest honours you can get.
"Kids Show" Btw, his cynical, rude attitude comes from the fact, that he was in love with a french baguette, but she only loved a multigrain-bread - which broke his heart
The only thing you need to know is Bernd das Brot is a depressed piece of bread who hates life, which the same episode plays out all night into the morning.
Nobody yet wrote it? "Dieser Kommentarbereich ist jetzt Eigentum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland." (to understand that meme, in our passports we have written: "Dieser Reisepass gehört der Bundesrepublik Deutschland." The reason for that is that it's therefore illegal to take away the passport from you by other countries or for example money retrieval companies as deposit, as they would not steal it from you, but from the country of Germany.)
4:15 always remember, there are german words in the english language as well, like Kindergarten, Schadenfreude, Angst, Zeitgeist, Doppelgänger, Wanderlust etc. So it's fine if german has some english ones too :3
@MarcelJ. bruh nowadays? Im 31 and even we stardet tondobso back than. And some habits stick into adult hood so there i am an adult using words like cringe becouse fremdscham just doesnt transmit the exact same meaning Fremdscham would mean i feel secondhand embarest when the feeling is more like a crampnof my nerve systhem Anyway I do agree that the words used in modern slang seam almost forced into it and out of place almost i Rather than being an adition to the vocsbulsrry they are nire so a change of language all together But its not just english words Lige when the f did "Schere" becane a thing just say sorry or 'tschuldigung i k ow where it comes from but it could have stayed there
@MarcelJ. It's fine if it's words that don't exist in German or are unwieldy in German. But when i hear someone say "real" in English I get an aneurysm
Bernd das Brot, is the show that loops thru the night on children's TV, because they cant broadcast the normal show in the night so the kids don't have to stay up late, so this is what you see as a kid when you keep watching the kids TV channel between 21 and 6, and yes what you saw is a full episode, so this one episode would loop for the whole time.
It actually runs on the German version of PBS Kids called KiKa (short for "Kinder Kanal", or children's channel), and it runs during the "Nachtschleife" (Nightloop) from 9pm-6am with one episode on a loop because that's when children are supposed to sleep. Which means that the only people watching are stoned or drunk people
Or people with sleep problems. I remember sometimes letting Bernd episodes run on when I had troubles falling asleep, especially when my insomnia got really bad. Not my happiest memory but one I am still kinda glad to have, because Bernd is a legend.
He is a character in a in-house show of that network, but mostly is known for being shown after 10pm living out the night in end of broadcast placeholder hell. He's great at it too
This stuff was broadcasted on KIKA across the entire night from 9PM to 6AM. There are about 5 or 6 different version of this like a casting show, the history of Germany and the KIKA lounge.
Im for germany and I watched Bernd das Brot every night *{yes it only plays at like 12:00 AM in the morning on public television for some reason}* And I just see what kind of a fever dream this show was
Dont forget cool or cringe wich where adabtet becouse of an lack of words fornthe exact same feeling Or nice Becouse nett is more used sarcastically and there was a need to replace it
@YukiTheOkami There is no lack of them. It is mostly internet. For instance crimge has a better german alternative "fremdsheu". The thing is if you know local alternatives then you are creator of creative works which means you aren't around friends right now. Individuals who are around friends at that moment normalize usage of one popular word or another regardless of alternatives' existence.
Bernad das brot is the thing that you see on the tv after a wild night its basicly the show that plays at the very end of the channel kika in the night and he is supposed to turn you away from watching tv
As a German I can confirm depressed Bread fits as an accurate description of us Also KIKA Stands for Kinder Kanal Wich translates to Kids channel and Bernd the Bread was usually smt like an after program on that Channel around 10pm if I remember correctly (has been a while since I've been young)
“Bernd das Brot” is a comedy show that airs on the children’s TV channel KiKA at night, from about 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. During this time, short clips with Bernd are shown again and again. If you turn on the channel, you will see him throughout the whole night. Bernd is always grumpy because he actually doesn’t want to be on TV and constantly complains about it. The KiKA team created this idea. They wanted a funny night program that older viewers and parents could also enjoy. So they invented Bernd the Bread, a grumpy bread character who is forced to host the night program. His constant complaining is what makes the show funny for many viewers.
Since I'm German myself, I'll try to explain Bernd simply. He's the German Squidward. He was a test contestant on a children's television shopping show and now has to do the late-night slot, against his will.
This was always a childhood masterpiece its literally the equal to possibly a Fever Dream but in endearing that want you keep going, especially with how Pessimistic Bernd is. A literal bread that asks you to shut off the screen.
9:51 if you watch the original Star Trek (with William Shatner as Captain Kirk), it becomes quite funny if you pay attention to the red shirts. Even if they seem to be part of a conversation, they never actual have any lines. And every one that is directly part of a scene (not some background character) will die in some way or another XD
I'm a German and I love this traumatizing Bread, everyone was traumatized at least a bit by it. it ran at one of the most widely known kids channel every night and still does. it's just culture at this point
So okay a small Excursion about "Bernd das Brot" aca "Bernd the Bread". It is one of the Mascots of the KIKA (Kinderkanal/Childrens Channel) and was meant to be to Depict a Depressed, Fatalism Charakter. The Idea was to teach, explain and show Kids in a sometimes Dark, but mostley Comedic Way, what Depression are, how to Work and Live with it. A few Years after his First Debut, he became widley Known to an Adult Audiance, because the KIKA didnt had a 24h going Programm. Since they were Focus on Children they stopped Sending at around 9pm and startet sending shows again at 6 am every Day. In the Time between they initially only showed a Test Stream. Later on they started to Show Clips and Shows from Bernd or showing him in Front of a White Screen (in Reference to a Very common and Popular Type of Wallpaper, used in a lot of German households) and making Comments about that. Which a lot of Adults catched on to while Zapping through the Channels. This way, he became Cult Figure, because not only could Kids learn things from or through Bernd, also most Adults could Related to all the Shit he goes through. Since he doesnt mince Words, he became very Popular and Famous.
Was always so exciting when a new episode dropped. Like it was never announced anywhere except "sendeschluss" in in the tv guide from 9pm to anywhere like 5am. This would be on repeat for months before there was a new episode but you keep watching it on repeat for the whole night.
I don't understand how kids were scared by him. I LOOOVED this guy. I LOVED how annoyed and aggressive he was towards the computer voice that sent him to space. I love that he was always forced on stage to test dumb products. I just love him... I need to add him to my hear me out list now. brb.
ok i have read some of the comments but nobody REALLY explained what this is and why it's here. only a few explained this is basically the video you see at night at a kids channel. the channel is called KIKA which literally means Kinder Kanal (Childrens Channel) and it's not real about the bread but it is. it's just a white background and him talking why some stuff is happening but it's actually made to kind of make you get off your Tv and go to sleep. it has only a few different variations and they get played in a loop EVERY NIGHT so it's especially boring. but many people just love that shit. it's nostalgia for germans and yeah for me it's a funny show but also i have seen the whole thing many times so it's very boring too 😅
When I had ernd on the first time, when they looped the same episode the whole night, it was such an experience. It was about internet and internet culture, it's so good and I can imagine how hard that hits if you're stoned or wasted.
Mist, sie hat auf Bernd das Brot reagiert. Schaltet ab, schaltet ab, schaltet ab ab ab ab ab. Schaltet. Ab. That got me traumatised as a child, but know its funny and I kinda relate to Bernd😂😂
Now loop it for four hours and you get the true Bernd experience
While being drunk.
😆
and only watch it from 12 am to 6 am
@noneofyourbusiness3288 or stoned
@noneofyourbusiness3288 as a german, being drunk is obligatory and i reported your comment because of inefficiency to the Funk- und Internetübertragungskommentarsektionseffizienzmaximierungsamt, you will receive note by fax.

Even if they seem to be part of a conversation, they never actual have any lines. And every one that is directly part of a scene (not some background character) will die in some way or another XD
Feli from germany did a great explanation video
19:36 Now you have to start it again because that runs on a continues loop all night...
BERND DAS BROT!!!! 🍞 ich liebe es
Diese Kommentar Sektion ist jetzt Deutsches Eigentum 🇩🇪😂
I'm a German and I love this traumatizing Bread, everyone was traumatized at least a bit by it. it ran at one of the most widely known kids channel every night and still does. it's just culture at this point
It's simple. No matter what country you're from, if you're a streamer you will sooner or later watch Bernd das Brot on stream. Bernd is inevitable.
as a german, this show came up at a tv channel special for kids, at it played from like 8 pm to 6 am in the next morning
Not just „a“ tv channel special for kids, „THE“ children channel. KIKA = Kinder Kanal = children’s channel
thats childhood from me im from germany and thats from germany
Mari thank you so much for the brilliant vid you've made my day even better thank you so much.😁❤😁
Oh, Raufasertapete. Schööön
Funny thing she mentions Hank hill being in Japan since they had a 2 episode special where hank and his family along with Cotten go to Japan
Imagine being in hospital in a waiting room watching this on repeat for hours until your operation starts.
Everybody watched this when we were Kids
Old is gold it kidda reminder of my childhood cartoon ❤
I like the one where it’s about the internet the most
Great to see this specific Bernd das Brot show again randomly after 8-10 years.
@sensen9900 thanks for sharing that background with the people
the fact that he is from the 90s makes him the first VTuber
Was always so exciting when a new episode dropped. Like it was never announced anywhere except "sendeschluss" in in the tv guide from 9pm to anywhere like 5am. This would be on repeat for months before there was a new episode but you keep watching it on repeat for the whole night.
Bernd hits different when you're young and you sneak out of the room at night and quietly start the tv just to see him in a loop the full night
Leute wir können doch zugeben das wir auf dieses VIdeo wegen Bernd das Brot geclickt haben und nicht wegen Mari
Du hast recht
I don't understand how kids were scared by him. I LOOOVED this guy. I LOVED how annoyed and aggressive he was towards the computer voice that sent him to space. I love that he was always forced on stage to test dumb products. I just love him... I need to add him to my hear me out list now. brb.

its from 2007 and this was running on a kids tv channel in the night in germany :D
Als Deutscher kann ich das sagen, das ist Kultur
Bearbeiten: Entschuldigung, ich habe tatsächlich geschrieben ,,Kann nicht”, aber ich meine ,,kann”😅
ah yes, english speaking personw atching german tv.
what could possibly go wrong.
ok i have read some of the comments but nobody REALLY explained what this is and why it's here. only a few explained this is basically the video you see at night at a kids channel. the channel is called KIKA which literally means Kinder Kanal (Childrens Channel) and it's not real about the bread but it is. it's just a white background and him talking why some stuff is happening but it's actually made to kind of make you get off your Tv and go to sleep. it has only a few different variations and they get played in a loop EVERY NIGHT so it's especially boring. but many people just love that shit. it's nostalgia for germans and yeah for me it's a funny show but also i have seen the whole thing many times so it's very boring too 😅
When I had ernd on the first time, when they looped the same episode the whole night, it was such an experience.
