My senior year of high school my government teacher gave us all a mixtape to listen to. He also sang this song to us on our last day. We all cried. We were all different, but the class brought us all together. Life is so beautiful.
I get chills every time I hear this song. "This miles that tore us apart, my newfound faith, and my broken heart... Windows are rolled down..." It just speaks so gracefully of keeping your chin up. I love it!
My mom always played this after my dad died, now she has passed and I play it and let all of my feels go. I hope they're soaring through the clouds. It's nice that songs can mean different things to different mindsets. 💔❤️
They are still there. Parents rarely cross over when kid's are left behind. Besides that there's no heaven to be conceived by the human brain. There's only the middle, and I can't wait to experience it. And this is a perfect song to remember people by. My mom always drove with the Windows down. And it bothered me in the winter but we lived in Georgia and it wasn't cold to get. But I live in nyc now,and it's too cold so I'm just happy we didn't grow up here.
In faith in Christ Jesus when one dies they go directly to heaven to be with the Lord! There's no such thing as a human spirit lingering! You will live forever but you must choose today where that is going to be! I am very sorry for your loss my friend! But so many people don't know the truth about what happens when you die? Most are just worldly concepts of condolences? Meanwhile people are perishing because of not knowing the Gospel! They feign true faith and have no knowledge of Christ? Sorry to carry on but It's important to point out that Jesus is the only way! Hug's to you and know that you are loved by God as well! ,Billy
Im sure the song wasnt intend as such, but just yesterday we put our 14 year old pug to rest. He was in pain, we knew he was in pain. He did what he could to hold on but we knew it was time. Last ride we took with him he stuck his head out of the window like he usually does and had the wind blow over him, eyes closed and tongue out, just enjoying it. This song will be forever tied to that moment, and thank you for it
Mike MacLean ❤ Last month, I adopted a 9 yr old, beautiful silver cat from a shelter, as a buddy for my cat. They were petrified of each other, despite my gradual Jackson Galaxy intro method, but it just didn't work out. I brought him back yesterday, after they assured me they're a no- kill shelter. I'd become very attached to him!! He was SO sweet & affectionate. Pets are like our children, so I can see why you'd think of your Pug when you hear this song. It's a great song, that can apply to many scenarios.
I love this interpretation. I think it fits perfectly. Because windows rolled down is just about bringing it back to that simplicity of life (within all the pain) and that’s how our furry friends live🥺 RIP little buddy.
I first heard this song in Houston, my high school robotics team and I were there for nationals. My teacher was driving the car down the highway after a long day, us kids packed into the back staring out the open windows and chatting, and this song was playing as the breeze blew through the car. It always makes me smile.
I just got recommended this song by someone. I feel a deep connection to this song. Mostly because, to me, it means letting go of the past, whether it’s a family member or friend who passed, letting go of your old life, or letting go of a feeling (if that makes any sense.) Truly an inspiring song.
😢 I always wanted to know the true meaning of that song it's kind of like somebody died but was it of a broken heart or was it a car accident it's so sad it gives chills up my spine and I love it so much
I just saw your comment and know your pain, Mama. My son, Stephen, passed in 2021 and when I first heard this song, I knew it was from him. May God bless you and ease your heartbreak ♥
I've seen Amos Lee live 3 times. He does this song wonderfully, he opened with it each time. I listen to all types of music and I don't usually do the youtube comments. But 67 people listened and gave it a thumbs down? I don't get it. Just because I don't see it as the type of song to rub someone the wrong way. I don't bother to put a thumbs down on music I don't care for, I just move on to the other 3 billion choices, why bother? Ok, that's all love Amos Lee, great dude. : )
+Rick Nelson yeah Amos is one of the best singer/songwriters out there right now. I play guitar and write songs and I dig his style of singing...it has a good soul feeling to it.
There is zero justification for the thumbs down on this song; on this artist. He's solid all around. Voice is insane, writing is incredible. Oh well, there are just people out there who have to be negative. Let them be, we'll be happy and jamming to great music while they wallow in self-despair. This has to be the best song while out on a country road cruising with the top down.
This song hit the playlists about the time my mom passed away - I like to think she is in some sort of heaven, the windows rolled down and wind blowing through her hair. Thank you Mr. Lee for inspiring such emotion with your music - a rare gift indeed!
Lyrics: Look up, child The world is born Shoes untied And your soles are worn Windows are rolled down Sun is setting high Windows are rolled down I'm fixin' to die Corn rows have companion feel This rocky road and this steering wheel Who do you call to ease your pain I hope for you to get through this rain Windows are rolled down Moon is hanging low Windows are rolled down Think it's time for me to go hey-ay-ay-a...-ay Is it what you dreamed it'd be Are you locked up in this fantasy Oh this miles that have torn us apart My new found faith and my broken heart Windows are rolled down Sun is rising high Windows are rolled down Feel that wind rushing by hey-ay-ay-a... Windows are rolled down
I'm a huge Amos Lee fan. Have seen him twice in concert. Absolutely LOVE this song! I'm a musician also, and have covered this song a few times at open mics. People rave about it. Can't match Amos and his precision voice, but I enjoy doing it all the same. Keep on rockin' Amos.
I lived this song when I drove my dad from Jersey to his brother at his birth home in Newark, Ohio. We visited the graveyard of his family. He was at the time, slowly dieing from cancer. Yes, it was just that sad and it still is.
I love songs this sound like the story they're telling. Makes me want to be in a drive on a nice warm day with the windows down and my arms out the window.
Amos Lee....such a soulful, soothing, and talented musician. I cannot wait to hear him live in Salina, KS. Thanks Amos for using your talents to help my heart heal from past mistakes and wounds. God continue to bless this man and his fellow band mates as they take their music to people.
A great song ... at home ... on the road, just at the beginning of a road trip, after some hard times ... why is this song *NOT* being given more credit ?? This is a great song ... no question
What a wonderful thoughtful emotive lovely song that reminds me of people I have lost to death while also helping me to enjoy the beauty in life more ;) while I am still upright & breathing. Praying Blessing in the Holy Name of Christ Jesus over you Brother Amos. Cheers! Wonderful Song!
I discovered this song only recently when it came on Pandora. What a fantastic and beautifully sung song. I have listened to it many times since. Suggested it to my daughter and she also loves it. Makes you wonder how many people have missed out on this gem.
I stumbled onto this song right as I was becoming a born again Christian after my divorce. Remember even after a horrible heartbreak and what you think is the end can simply be a new beginning.
Yeah I don't get the thumbs down either. This guy has a voice that plucks the heartstrings & his songs tell a story. There seems so much to love & so little to dislike - as you say why bother to register disapproval... Not everyone has good taste sure but why advertise the fact ? Could any of these negative voters sing their way out of a wet paper bag - play an instrument - or write a song that can touch the spirit? Amos is a rare jewel & should be appreciated by those who can respond to him - the rest should simply move on to something more up their alley...
To me this song is like the first time that I gave my heart to Jesus Christ. It was a new found faith as the spirit of God rushing through me a joy to know that this world is only a high way leading to my final destination. This is a awesome feeling and the song Is awesome.
Wife got tickets to his show for my birthday when he hits Cleveland. We rarely go to concerts anymore but I'm looking forward to this one. Especially this crazy song. Can't get it out of my mind.
I love this song!! I really love most of his music!! He is the only musician that I have bought tickets to go see in 30 years!!! That was in 2008 and I'm ready to go see him again!!
One of the great break - up songs. In a class with " Misty Blue " by Dorothy Moore And " On my own " by Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald. Amos has been there.

I agree. I'm called grandma goose lol
One of those secret tunes for those looking for amazing songs that somehow gets overlooked by the mainstream! Gold 🪙
I get chills every time I hear this song. "This miles that tore us apart, my newfound faith, and my broken heart... Windows are rolled down..." It just speaks so gracefully of keeping your chin up. I love it!

awe totally made me choke up. Thanks for sharing!
A poet who sings and plays as beautifully and soulfully as he writes.
Bobbie Lea Perry aka Amos and Watsky
I completely agree.
Every single thing Amos does is like stepping back to the times of woodstock and experiencing great music once again!
Im sure the song wasnt intend as such, but just yesterday we put our 14 year old pug to rest. He was in pain, we knew he was in pain. He did what he could to hold on but we knew it was time. The first time I heard this, I was driving my car. I was stunned by the beauty of his voice, his intonation. I almost lost control of my vehicle
I can relate!! I heard this song and heart skipped a beat!!!

Warm Summer night+Windows rolled down+this song cranked=perfection
Smiles, hi there
I absolutely love this song! I just discovered Amos Lee and am so happy!
Lyrics:
Look up, child
The world is born
Shoes untied
And your soles are worn
Windows are rolled down
Sun is setting high
Windows are rolled down
I'm fixin' to die
Corn rows have companion feel
This rocky road and this steering wheel
Who do you call to ease your pain
I hope for you to get through this rain
Windows are rolled down
Moon is hanging low
Windows are rolled down
Think it's time for me to go hey-ay-ay-a...-ay
Is it what you dreamed it'd be
Are you locked up in this fantasy
Oh this miles that have
torn us apart
My new found faith
and my broken heart
Windows are rolled down
Sun is rising high
Windows are rolled down
Feel that wind rushing by hey-ay-ay-a...
Windows are rolled down
My ninth grade English teacher was playing this song one day and I have never listened to a song more than this one

Beautiful song 💞💙💜🫂🙏💪💚
I've basically just discovered this song and it completely relaxes me. It's a song that transports me to warm weather, nice breeze, and peacefulness.
I discovered this song only recently when it came on Pandora. What a fantastic and beautifully sung song. I have listened to it many times since. Suggested it to my daughter and she also loves it. Makes you wonder how many people have missed out on this gem.

To me the song sounded like he was planning suicide ... maybe that's why some react badly to the lyrics. It would be a great 'funeral' song though
still brings me to tears all these years later
I cant wait to see him at the sing out loud festival in st. augustine florida with mumford and sons 9-23-23!!!!
Smiles, hi Kara
Love me some Amos Lee. Awsome Song.
DANG AMOS!!!!! YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!!!
Yep. Chill and reflect at it's highest. Gorgeous
Whichever genre it may be from, it's an absolute beauty!
2020... that song makes even more sense. Who else is waiting to leave for a HUGE ROAD TRIP ? !
He did this tonight at the end of his concert in Lowell MA. It never fails to get me choked up. The entire place went nuts.
Too good. One of my all time favorite songs.
To me this song is like the first time that I gave my heart to Jesus Christ. It was a new found faith as the spirit of God rushing through me a joy to know that this world is only a high way leading to my final destination. This is a awesome feeling and the song Is awesome.
Never heard of him til I by chance heard part of this song on a channel I don't even listen to. Searched for it on youtube...I love it. Good artist.
Beautiful song, great singer - a real artist and musician of great spirit and soul. A modern day poet.
Broken Bells: The High Road is #2 for me.
Wife got tickets to his show for my birthday when he hits Cleveland. We rarely go to concerts anymore but I'm looking forward to this one. Especially this crazy song. Can't get it out of my mind.

Absolutely love this song ❤️! I remember vacationing on Hilton Head Island with my Dad. He still here this song brings back lovely memories of better times!
I love this song it reminds me of the first time I realized how much I need Jesus Christ in my life. First I found a new faith then I got baptized and was filled with the holy spirt. It was like the wind passing through me blowing off all the dust from them old gravel roads I had been down. No it wasn’t religion I found it was much more than that. I understand why someone could be atheist in this day and time. But I don’t understand how the can be truly happy not knowing the truth?
Charles, I was raised a devout Catholic. As I entered my teen aged years I thought I had it all figured out and didn't need God in my life. Guess what? A series spectacular failures followed. I had dust myself off quite a bit, learn some humility, and realize that the answers just won't fall in my lap.
No matter what faith or morals you follow, just know you can always better yourself.
God Bless you, Charles!

Seen him twice, once in August 10th, 2010 on the river in Eagle, Idaho about 200 people showed up. Again in 2017 in Salt Lake City
