    MY BROTHER! I was so stressed when I heard my Kenmore fridge making this loud noise at night. I couldn't sleep all night and was so stressed. In the morning, I meditated half an hour and stumbled upon your video on youtube. Immediately after, I tried this method and it worked within 5 minutes I fixed my frozen fan behind the ice cube maker! I am so grateful to you as this worked 2 weeks ago! I promised myself that I would come back to youtube, find your video and thank you for blessing me with your knowledge. I hope the universe continues to treat you good and I am truly thankful for your existence. God bless brother!

    So many thanks. I was in doubt while doing this because the panel would not relent and come out. I was afraid of breaking the plastic bits and did do some small damage. In the end, I had to wait 12 hours until enough ice melted and I could pull open the panel. Before I dared try it myself, Miele was not helpful at all, telling me that I should get a technician to visit for 500 dollars. My fridge has never been so quiet, 7 days on. Think how many people dispose of a perfectly good appliance. Thanks for helping save the planet and disabuse me some of my grief.

    Our Kenmore/Whirlpool started making the noise so I went to follow the steps.
    Alas, no screws! Tried to pull the cover off but didn't want to break it.
    Long story short, if there was ice then I knocked it off. I then ran the hair dryer on it a bit.
    No more noise.
    FWIW, it's on borrowed time, anyway, so will watch the Memorial Day sales and get a new one. It's been almost 21 years.

    We recently had the "evaporator" fan replaced by a GE licensed repairman because it stopped working. A few days later, we kept hearing this strange vibrating noise. Since the recent repair and part were still under the 30 day warranty, I called GE and insisted they come out again because we were concerned the new part was at fault. The repairman knew right away that it was the ice buildup on the freezer fan. He said I would have to manually defrost the buildup behind the freezer fan or just wait and hope that it eventually would defrost on it's own. I asked if I could just use a hair dryer and get it done quicker. He said "no" because it might melt the plastic. The noise continued and we but noticed it would stop when we would open the left side fridge door. Found your helpful video and decided to use the hair dryer. 1 minute later, problem solved! :)

    Thank you David for this video, it saved my sanity!! I had the exact same noise, scheduled a Sears service call but they couldn’t come out for 3 days. The noise was so loud I had to sleep in another floor of the house! I knew I was going to go crazy so I searched for the issue and your video was the top result. I have a newer model that has no visible screws to remove the fan panel. But I could see the top of the fan through the vent holes on top. I held a hair dryer to that top vent and bottom vent for like 10-15 minutes. I knew it had to be that long because I also had a thick sheet of ice buildup on the back wall and I could see with that ice that’s how long it took the blow dryer to fully melt it. In the end it worked and the ridiculously loud sound stopped thank god! The ice maker (up in the top door) hasn’t been working either, we’ll see if this fixes that too.

    This works, but so does getting a brand of refrigerator that has been better designed! Our Kenmore repairman literally had to bypass the water filter line to the ice maker, because it kept freezing. We are on our second ice maker, and we have to keep a dowel with a hook on the end to fish out ice cubes that fall under the sliding shelves in the freezer - otherwise the freezer might not close properly. Having to do this ritual every 8 to 10 months is just the icing on the cake :)

    turn the water pressure down on the shut off valve going to the fridge. turn it more to the off position. like a 1/4 of the way open just barley crack it. just enough to get water out the fridge and to your ice maker. what its doing is splashing water going into the down pipe to the ice tray or it could be a leaky valve. but too much water pressure will push passed the valve or splash over the ice tray and leak down into the fan motor causing this noise. something to check .

I did however spend about 10 to 15 minutes with a hair dryer blowing all around the shield. There was quite a bit of water coming down from behind so I suspect the same issue. I plugged it in and it ran for about a minute or two with no sound. Thought it was fixed but soon again it started up. I suspect I did not get rid of enough ice. What caused the ice build up?

    • @nybiggs
      @nybiggs 3 года назад +3

      Three common possibilities. 1)You have overpacked your fridge or blocked the vents. Not allowing enough circulation will cause ice buildup. If your freezer is always overpacked like this, you will have to do this video again and again. 2)The defrost timer is damaged. Your freezer isn't being told to defrost the evaporator coils often enough because the timer is broken. 3)The defrost element is broken, meaning the heating element that defrosts no longer works. All are relatively simple repairs.

      @@lillytaggert178 I said COMMON possibilities. If you have a specific model with some unique defects then sure you could easily have other reasons. But plenty of fridges go through this once. The parts get replaced and it works fine again for year's.

    This is great BUT why do we have to do this to our FROST-FREE refrigerators in the first place?? It's shameful what the appliance manufacturers are shoving down our throats. Today's refrigerators are all junk.

    If this happens every year, should I just toss my 3 year old fridge? Piece of crap.

      I just live with it. Not worth the expense to me for how often I have to do this. Your call.
