The Arkansas Traveler

The Arkansas Traveler ~ One of the best known of all American fiddle tunes. It achieved extensive popularity during the 1850's, and retained its fame throughout the American Civil War. Originally, the tune was published in 1847 by William Cumming, and several editions soon followed featuring comic lyrics. In the guise of a "comic song," it built additional fame with travelling minstrel companies. Its irresistible appeal rings down to the present day.
