- How much would it cost to take a taxi from Cairo Airport directly to the Pyramids of Giza?
Our flight had a stopover in Egypt and as soon as my friends and I arrived at Cairo airport, we knew we only had 8 hours in this historic city and we had to make the most of it!!
That is why our first mission is to go directly to the pyramids of Giza and the fastest option is the Taxi.
My friend Ollie was pretty sure that the average price for this route would cost around 200 EGP, so when the taxi driver told us the double price, we started the negotiations!!
The problem is that we can not really waste much time negotiating prices because the pyramids close soon and my mom will definitely want a photo of them !!

As I understand from the driver, he said Giza is too far, Uber not available here. The driver is trust worth. It takes 2 hours to reach Giza. He said , fasting Ramzan. Exit 50 ,all together 350 in total. I think, lost time in bargaining.
Tbh here in Egypt people rarely use taxis anymore they either use public transpo or uber(even uber is expensive, there are cheaper alternatives), so for any foreigners coming here just use these things and also make sure to use google maps to know timings, distance, and other info. People in Egypt are mostly friendly you can ask for hotspot or try and connect to wifi from a cafe or restaurant(sometimes you may have to order something but it's not a big deal, you can just order water or whatever).

@zk5640 Unnfortunately you are gonna have to either take an Uber or a taxi.
Uber for a westerner is very cheap I used it everyday in Egypt
Things to keep in mind while traveling to Egypt.
1. Never trust taxi drivers.
2. Never put your bag in the trunk of a car.
3. If you agree on a price, take a video. exact price.
4. After arriving at your destination, if the taxi driver offers a high price, call the police immediately.
Egypt is a place with many beautiful historical sites. But I hate going because of the Egyptians. There are many scammers and few have basic education.
If you have been treated unfairly as well, you should file a complaint with the Egyptian embassy in your country. Otherwise there will be another victim. The victim could be your country's ethnicity and people of all countries will be harmed. So protest.
as an Egyptian feel ashamed because of that sample of people. but here are other things to keep in mind
1- not all Egyptians like this. actually, most of the ppl here are kind and friendly. but many taxi drivers are scammers yes even with us they are trying to charge us more. so when you say you hate to come here because of ( the Egyptians ) you're putting everyone in the same category like this
2- English is not our official language. so. If you meet someone who does not master the English language, this does not necessarily mean that he did not complete his basic education ( at least ) In fact, it is always better to learn some basics of the language of the country you are going to. This will make things easier
@@aneen0502 Yes, there are many cases of foreigners being scammed in Egypt in the same way as in this video. Compared to other countries, Egypt has too many scammers. And I do not understand why the Egyptian government is neglecting such a big problem. So many foreign tourists get stressed out in Egypt. Another reason is that I have traveled to many countries. But those countries did not have as many scammers as Egypt.

Your haggling over $10, if you can't afford it don't try to act like you're better than them trying to get $2 to $3 off it doesn't make a big difference to you but to them it does think of it as Charity. you westerners would not do this in your own country, but whenever you go overseas you act like you haggled prices all the time in your country

I still remember a very aggressive camel operator at the pyramids try to scam me 10-11 years ago. About 60 seconds later he's getting chased away by a cop also on a camel smacking the scammer / his camel with a wooden stick. Crazy out there.

I am an Egyptian guy. In our country, you will see some bad guys, but if you go to the country side, you will see good people. Not all Egyptians are like this guy, and I hope anyone who sees this video does not believe that Egypt is full of fraud.
Wasted too much time arguing over $2. I understand its about the principle but still if you have only 8 hours then just pay that guy the 350.

Hi Tim hope u enjoyed trip to Egypt. I'm Egyptian and it costs 200-300 going to airport and 300-400 from airport in Egyptian time that time. Downtown taxi cost is completely different and less. But airport taxi has special situation. Sorry if anything bothered u. My advice to use Uber next time. Welcome any time to Egypt

Taxi is expensive in Egypt! compared to Uber is like from 30 to 50 diffrent up or down! actually is not a big deal if i am in hurry and am fighting with the time.
Also Taxi drivers in Egypt go to the airport setting the whole day for such on spot trips you cant complain.. he dedicated his all day time to surve you or any urgent cases and as you see if he get out from the terminal and decide to go i believe he would catch his goal
also how much doest it cost Taxi in europe for like 50Km! i believe it will catxh 80 euros easy way transfer to Egyptian pound ... that Taxi driver actually cheap 😅
Why not avail, egypt air transit service if your flight is more than 6 hours, free accommodation and food?

Ok first of all the taxi was DEFINITELY scamming you guys. I just checked on uber that the trip costs half the price you paid
But maybe he asked for extra because it’s Ramadan and he needs to go home to eat
And I translated what he said at the airport, he wanted to take extra because of the parking ticket that the airport charges for taxies and that the trip is going to take 2 hours which in my opinion doesn’t justify the reason for extra money
And when he was on the phone he was trying to know more about your final destination because Egypt has 2 areas with the same name
And when you guys arrived the place was closed because it’s sunset and at the time especially at Ramadan, almost everyone is going home or somewhere to eat because they were fasting the entire day from dawn to sunset ( to know more about Ramadan google it)
So 😅
The next time you come to Egypt, just make sure to have a local friend that can help you navigate you around and also to translate what the locals say because
English isn’t really their strong suit 😂

You should have gone into the hotel you were all standing at the front door of The Great Pyramid Inn View Hotel ......Asked reception to look after your bags and gone up to the hotel bar to take your photos, the bar/restaurant has an amazing view right infront of the Pyramids.......

So much time wasted haggling over a small sum of money. If you wanted the Uber you could have paid the taxi to drive you to meet the Uber at the other terminal. If Uber can't come to you, AND you agreed on the price with the taxi and then you try to get a better deal AFTER then the scammer isn't the taxi driver. You can't complain or compare about the cost of Uber if they can't come to the terminal you are at. So much time was wasted instead of taking that taxi or another taxi to go to the terminal where you could get the Uber you arranged at 3:58 in your video.

All that time was wasted, haggling over such a small amount of money. So, all three of them missed out, on what they wanted to see... The difference between the low of 200 and the 350 he asked was a whopping $4.86 u.s. dollars spread out over three people...

Uber ... saved me so many headaches; unfortunately scamming and corruption are endemic in Egypt and many other countries (including my parents); people don't know what's normal anymore in these places ... actually the only place I wasn't scammed was in the churches and I'm from a muslim background !
