    Memories. Weekly rides into Sydney from the Northern Beaches with 10+ bikes. Gixxer 1100s x3 ZXR 750s x4 from H2s to J2 and Honda Fireblades.
    No police radars, no speed cameras, no wheelie control (so lame) no ABS, basically no BS riding under streetlights and through tunnels, parking on street corner cafes with the bikes on the pavement next to us.
    Swapping rides, never owned a GSXR1000 but rode them many times on these nights. Always wanted one as they were the most comfortable of what we were riding and just felt like a boss with the torque and engine size winding on the throttle.
    Miss those days. All legendary bikes without the computer aids. It just felt more pure.

    I bought a blue and white one in 1992 and LOVED it. Fantastic engine, pulled like a rocket so that the horizon came quicker at you than you could understand. I STILL LOVE the styling with the double headlights. Suzuki was big in 24 hour endurance racing and this bike's styling came from those 24 hour racers. Thanks for the video, it's great to see and hear it again. All the best, Rob in Switzerland

    I began road biking in 1967, after a few years over fields, and have ridden about eighty different models regularly switching from sports to tourers. The GSSR1100 was by far the very best sports bike I ever owned. I bought an early full power black / silver model in the late 80s and rode over 8k on it including Tunbridge Wells to Wisbech every week. Then almost 35 years ago (seems like yesterday, almost) so I then rode most everywhere flat out, not so difficult with few cameras and fewer / safer drivers. Totally impossible these days with honest number plates, and on crap country roads. The bike was light, was willingly thrown around, and easily and naturally became an extension of oneself. It was a FANTASTIC RIDE. Much better than today's Hayabusa. Open the throttle at 100 m.p.h. and the front wheel lifted off the ground and rocket accelerated! When I sold it my buyer tested it with me as pillion. I well recall him screaming in genuine desperation "How do I slow it down, I'm terrified?!!!" It needed such a small throttle opening. Nowadays at 72 years old I tootle around on my Honda Valkerie Interstate (much much harder to ride) and today I seriously looked at a very low mileage GSXR on the internet as a second bike. Then I got real: A great bike to look at and wax but far too fast for today's road conditions, and if I still fancied track days it would not be quite fast enough if one could afford a £40k dedicated track bike. So my head eventually won over my heart. But I enjoyed many happy memories. P.S. What is more suitable for today's roads if one wishes to pose / kid oneself on an attractive looking bike - I would recommend something along the lines of a Ducati 800SS.

    My favourite sportsbike design from that period and they still look the business today. I walked passed a suzuki dealership everyday on my way to high school and in my final year would leave early each day so I could spend a couple of minutes drooling at the three different coloured versions in the showroom window each morning. Despite three decades of riding i never got around to getting one.And now thirty years later methinks the time has come to realise those boyhood dreams - thanks for providing me with a bit more inspiration

      @@ProjectMoto You used to see them all the time but I'm guessing they've all been crashed. There was a huge sportbike scene in the 80s/early 90s that killed off a lot of these bikes. You may or may not know that this bike was kind of a death trap! At least the "K" model was considered deadly after Phil Mellor's death at the Isle of Man in 1989. I have an '89 but it has been stretched by someone a long time ago for drag racing, which many of these bikes in the states were. Needless to say, handling around the track is gone.

      These bikes are the best model they made with the best colour scheme. There is a shirt that says “ if you have never owned one (picture of bike and gsxr 1100) you will never understand” . I never bought the bike 13 years ago and thought I would have it this long. It still looks original, in fact it’s off getting a new paint job now ( still in original colours). My mate is a drag specialist in Queensland Australia and it’s just progressed over time. The bike does ride better being 2 up rather than solo, it’s just the way they are, my wife loves that. The yoshimura carbies 41mm up from mikuni cv 36 is the nearest thing to fuel injection too. People think that it would be unstreetable but quite the opposite those carbies atomise fuel brilliantly along with the 12.5:1 compression rather than 13:1 make it far more enjoyable to ride. The L is now undoubtedly the rarest model to find and parts are impossible to find. Thank you for your kind words brother.

    • @jakefeopardy8856
      @jakefeopardy8856 Год назад +1

      The K had right way up forks and the L was the first with USD ones. The rear wheel on the K was only 4.5" with a 160 tyre, while the L had 5.5" with a 180/55. Also the K had a big H with "Hyper Sports" in smaller writing on the tank, while the L just has "Suzuki" in big writing. The K tank looked awesome I thought. I had a K in black and silver. Fitted the 5.5" rear wheel from an L. Once I sorted the suspension with Maxton parts it worked well. Awesome bike engine and brakes were good - the ones in this vid must be suffering from duff pads. Rode it everywhere flat out (used to show 172mph every day on my commute home (if it was dry) (not far from where this vid was made, in fact)).
