Sting while going through a divorce conjured up all the metaphors of pain he could think of for this. And damn did he do a good job. Such a great song writer.

I'm so sorry dude. I listened to this album over and over while my mom was dying. I came of age with this album - 15 yo when it came out and I saw them live at the Tacoma Dome. My mom hated rock or anything contemporary, but she let me put this tape cassette in her car, driving my to school. I was 48 when I lost her, and I played this song when I had to unplug her. I was numbed out all the time because of all the shit I went through back to back. My mom getting cancer is just the latest in a long line of bad things happening. My dad died last year. Then about six months ago my girlfriend overdosed on heroin and died. The trauma kinda made me shut down emotionally and drinking was the only way I could feel. I'm doing better now than I was. Got brought to this song via the brief rendition of it for Faith: Chapter 3’s trailer. Can totally picture John singing this to himself sometime between the events of the chapters.
One of the greatest rock songs ever written. It's poetry really, that's been set to equally amazing music. One of my all time favorites. So evocative, that I in my mind, I can see a music video for it that has the images they describe playing in it. If I was any good at making videos, I'd make a version of it for all to see.
There are so many amazing phrases in this song, the lyrical flow is just beautiful all the way through. There's a flag pole rag and the wind won't stop is one that I love, it flows so beautifully
Great song for when you need to wallow in it for a while and let it all out. The lyrics are poetry at its best. The music perfectly matched. It takes you deep down into the abyss and when you're done singing along, it helps you to climb out again.
Sting's awesome throbbing bass playing is really evident in this song. It has that uber-tight-bouncy- note-for-note playing that he preferred to do compared to letting every note hum and sustain. It really locks into the groove. One of their best songs ever! 🤘⭐🍺
Ever since I was a teenager in the 1980's, when I listened to the song by The Police I could picture in my mind the images of what the lyrics were saying and I imagined my own video. Classic rock song.
Listened to this when I was a boy. A teenager. Always loved The Police. Great music from a 3 piece unit. Lots of good ones from them. I sing it without holding a candle to Sting's vocal ability, but that's ok if I'm alone. I could feel what he was putting out within me, in times when Pain was trying to be less than a friend. Nothing I can't handle now. If Pain comes around it just gets a chuckle now. An amazing composition. Feels good to hear it again. Much thanks to THE POLICE !
One of many songs from the Police that I love the most. Years ago at a sports bar in Columbus, Georgia I sang this song at karaoke. Great band and still popular to this day.❤🎸
The groovy people listened to The Police back in their early heyday. While the typical were jamming to .38 Special. You can always tell a soul by what they listen to.
Everytime I hear this song, the start reminds of the sound a blinking red-tail light. I remember that light blinking on a pink '69 AMX. It was surrounded by squad cars, ambulances, and fire-engines, each also flashing red lights. They were surrounded by golden fields of wheat, with a hot mid-day Kansas sun illuminating the rural landscape. Except for one black spot, spread-eagle 10 to 15 feet from edge of a particular field of gold. His broken appendages were bent at unnatural angles. His name was "Grease." He was twenty-seven, my friend, the head of our outlaw bike club, and a survivor of three tours "in country." A drunk 16 year-old chick threw him there with her pink car. I stood transfixed, watching first-responders mill around him like ants. Then I caught a glance of HER in handcuffs. I seemed to be in another world, as my arm slowly dropped towards my .45 Colt Automatic. My eyes focused on her, as my hand started to reach for iron and steel. Then a state trooper passed in front of her. I quickly and sadly snapped back to my ..."senses," and instead followed the coroner into town. I wish I could tell you, I'm glad I didn't, but the fact is, ...I'd be out by now.
Thank you for sharing an incredibly sad moment in your life. I wish you peace... and the way you wrote, just drew me in. I hope you realize your talent.

'... A profound and everlasting sadness. This is the siren song of Lucifer himself. While this is and remains my favorite Police song, and one of my all-time overall favorites, I had to read the Lyrics to confirm my growing suspicion and curiosity. There are a great many songs like this sprinkled throughout rocknroll, pop, R&B, blues, and just about any genre you can think of. It's part of our human condition, that we're drawn to beautiful but lamenting artwork, especially music. But as a faithful Christian I must keep these beautiful gems at arms-length. God Bless.

This song just describes perfectly what depression and anxiety feels like.
As John Constantine would say. Isnnt tho?
I've thought about this for years. I came to the conclusion they are the observations of a man sensing too much empathy for the world around him.
This is me. For the last 50 years. It becomes almost comfortable after a while... familiar. It's my destiny to be the king of pain.
Anxiety. Depression. Fear. Rejection.
