You specified Easter Red Cedar, i was hoping for a direct comparison to the more frequently found Western Red Cedar?? Is one better than the other for working. Rot & pest resistance?
they both are good for outdoors. western tends to be the more commercial version (when u buy a kids outdoor playset) it will usually be western. it's lighter in color &the grain is straighter than eastern. eastern is superior with insect resistances. that's why it's the #1 choice in wardrobes, closet lining, ect.
I would be interested to know how western red cedar compares to eastern red cedar. Is it the same? Is it much different? Is it vastly different? I'm sure western red cedar is considered inferior but not being in the know, I would have liked to seen it included in this video.
western is lighter& has straighter grain.they are both great outdoors.western being more commercial (when u by a kids playset as example) eastern is superior w/insect resistance as well as repelling certain insects.thats why it's #1 choice for 100's of years lining chests, closets,or building wardrobes...ect!
what about cedar of lebanon ? A very important wood historically, which is kind of making a come back nowadays, and it is more cedar than the red cedar, which is technically a juniper... Anyway, I really enjoy this video, like your other videos. Thanks 🙏👍
white cedar is similar, but but a little weaker in all categories. eastern is a bit tougher, smells better, cost a bit more &has better insect resistance & repellent. but white is still a fine choice for outdoor applications, or if you plan on painting. I would never paint eastern,...but white, sure would! thx for tuning in &sharing!
Much needed video! Would have loved to have seen some Port Orford Cedar to round out your selection 👍
I will add this to the list of requests!
most universal wood!!
