  • There is a lot of controversy around stretching and how to properly implement it. In this video, I explain the importance of stretching, when you should do it, and why.

    Thank you for taking the time/effort to post this video. It is gold.
    It is my dream to be a Master CHEK practitioner, however I don’t yet look the part, but I will keep working towards it.
    These videos are much appreciated and I send them to many people amongst other CHEK resources when a conversation and opportunity to share arises. However I am no poster so at times it falls on deaf ears or unmotivated ones.
    Thank you for putting belief back into my own body’s abilities and the guide to do so, instead of the allopathic way which I don’t have much positive things to say about. Coming across your information and classes has made a drastic improvement in my life and my family’s life.

    Thanks Paul, you are right. Stretching can be used very effectively for a number of reasons. People just want to work the algorithms and come up with this kind of stuff.

    100% Paul / i started training as a very young boy boxing and moved into the martial arts doing 30 min of stretching every day no injuries no pulled muscles no tightness and still doing triathlon , MTB, surfing and mountaineering and still at age 59 leaving many younger people behind with fitness and flexibility, I think I have tested the stretching theory on the anvil of time.

    This is not the first time I see someone who's "good at sports" say stretching is unnecessary. But at least the last guy I heard say that added "stretching is not good for me, I don't need it. But hey, if you need it, you do it." We're individuals here too, can't just put everyone through the very same fixed program at the very same time and expect best results for everybody involved.
    Thank you Paul :)

    This is so informative! I will need to listen a few times over! You are very generous with your knowledge, I have learnt so much from you off youtube and your eat/move/be healthy book, and with a little hope my kids will have absorbed much from hearing your podcast on in the background. I often put it on while I do house chores. Thank you so much

    Great info. I snapped my left arm distal tendon this year, I wasn't even lifting a weight, I stretched my arm out to get my hand under a set of draws, and CRACK. I was told that the tendon was about double the usual size but "not great quality" but the surgeon! I need a check practitioner!

    Paul, I Iove the video, per usual. Thank you for sharing your knowledge here for so many years. This one is particularly beneficial for me.
    Importantly: that canoe painting is AMAZING. Wow. I got lost in it while watching and had to re-watch it, haha. Do you ever sell your paintings?

    • @PaulChekLive
      @PaulChekLive  Месяц назад

      Hi,
      that painting was created by Sara Gustafson. She painted it to encapsulate a dream she had where she was about to go over a waterfall in a river and I came to assist her...
      I generally don't sell my art. I have given a lot of it away to people, usually my patients and friends...but with the work I've been doing on Spirit Gym for the last 4.5 years, I've only been able to paint occasionally. Spirit Gym is now out, and once I get things running smoothly and finish my 15-volume book series, I'll be painting a lot more! You can see Spirit Gym at www.myspiritgym.com Volume 1 will be released on Kindle very soon.

    I think stretching is just a little overrated. Full Range Movements take muscles through a stretch and short cycle. So could you not save time by just moving through full ranges of motion in your training.

    • @moritji6090
      @moritji6090 Месяц назад

      Another thought. If posture is a problem, lets say too much thoracic kyphosis, then why not just teach the clinet how to activate is thoracic extensors in a standing position to pull him into "better" posture uzilizing breathing and conscious bone repositioning. That would stretch the muscles that needed more length and strengthen the muscles that needed more activation. Two birds with one stone.

    My take on this is the strechting conception of Prof. Dr. Robert Schleipp:
    1. Strech muscle by stretching 30 secs rather intensely. (standard stretch)
    2. Strech fascia by stretchting 2,5-10 minutes rather mildly. (Yin Yoga)
    3. Stretch tendons by stretching 10-20 secs whilst contracting the stretched muscle/whilst isometric hold. (Full ROM tension)
    What does Mr Check say to this?

      HI,
      I don't have time to go into all the details, but if you are genuinely interested in a scientific approach to stretching, I have an entire chapter on stretching theory and applications in my book titled "The Golf Biomechanic's Manual" which you can get on Amazon or via the Chek Institute at www.chekinstitute.com

    Paul mentioned research by Arsivir Arat MD. I can’t find anything online. Can anyone else?

    • @PaulChekLive
      @PaulChekLive  Месяц назад

      Hi research was published in 1972, FYI, so probably hard to find.
      It is written about and referenced in my chapter titled "Posture and Craniofacial Pain" in the text titled "Chiropractic Approach To Head Pain" by Williams and Wilkins, and I think the book was published in 1994. My chapter is included in Chek Institute prerequisite studies, so you may be able to get the Chek Institute to share a copy of the chapter, which covers Arat's work and I included diagrams to show what his research unveiled.

      Hi Paul, I thought all viscero-somatic reflexes were inhibitory to the musculoskeletal system (for example lower abdominals). In this video you state it can also work with excitation (shoulder). Is this typical for the shoulder or can the reflex pathway also work inhibitory. Great love and respect, Gerben

      Hi,
      Viscerosomatic reflexes can be both excitatory, and inhibitory.
      I feature the book "Symptoms of Visceral Disease (7th Ed.)" by Francis Marrion Pottenger in my current podcast, EP: 300 10 Life-changing Books (Podcast name now changed to Spirit Gym with Paul Chek). I suggest you listen to that episode and if you really want to understand all these reflexes, track down and study this book. I share other excellent books in that podcast as well!
