Can you start covering or teaching more intermediate/advanced songs like Cliffs of Dover or the not-so-fast The Loner by Gary Moore? I'd love to see how you play/teach them! That'd be great! Thanks Marty!
Hey Marty, just want to say thanks and also say that your teaching is accurate and simple as well as easy to comprehend. I often remind people that we were all beginners when we started and your teaching shows that you haven't forgotten about them. Rock on brother \../
This is an old video but I still come and find you Marty and watch to learn how to play solos and such. You make it look so easy and you make me feel confident in learning just watching your playing and me following suit. Thanks Marty keep em coming
Friend 1 : Hey where can i learn this song, ____" Friend 2 : Marty. Friend 1: How about ____" Friend 2: Marty. Friend 1 : You sure his good? Friend 2 : STOP ASKING AND GO WATCH HIM. ^^
I found it much easier to play that last part with the 00:25 bend as you played it in the opening of this video rather than the 10:36 fret slide. Awesome lesson, thank you Marty!
I'm performing this song for my year 11 music performance assignment, so I thank you Marty for the help (much easier than any of the music notation and tabs I could find anywhere!) and hopefully I ace it on the day!
TheBlues Ine give over hes just stating a fact and not being rude about it, at least hes no a whiny annoying somebody just like... well who was it again?? you?
Barkeroni I've noticed that after watching a couple of live shows,he really does use his pinky.I try to exercise using pinky, but man sometimes it seems like my pinky will never be useful in playing.
I have a lyon something or other and even though it has enough frets it has so much body at that part of the neck it's virtually impossible for me to cleanly play anything past the 20th fret
We need TABS, man!!!! It's a pain in the ass to sit here and watch you play it backwards (from the viewer's perspective) and try to figure out what you're doing. And, as I'm sure you know, if you look up 10 different tabs, you'll find 10 different versions of how to play it (and at least 9 of them are wrong). So, it's pretty much impossible to find a tab that matches what you're playing. My favorite part about RUclips videos is that I can hear the other person play it first and make sure he's not butchering it. Almost all your videos are spot on and it seems like you've got a video for just about EVERY song I've ever looked up. But, I've never been able to learn anything from them without the tab. This particular song is especially frustrating because 95% of the other videos out there (for some idiotic reason I'll never understand) insist on playing every note one fret down instead of just tuning down their guitar like they should. (Why in the hell would I want to learn a version that's I know is half a step off when I know I'm just gonna have to start over and re-learn it the right way later?!?!?) Grrrrr. You're killin' me, Marty! This is the ONLY decent version I've been able to find but I can't do anything with it without a tab for what YOU'RE playing instead of some jacked up rendition that I can only assume was tabbed out by an 8 year old. I've tried forever to learn this song but all I can find is either a good version with no tab (like yours)....or a shitty version with a shitty tab. And then I just give up.
This song is a blast to improvise over a jam track. I took this lesson, then just used the same chords and improvised over the entire jam track. Sounded killer.
love the tutorial, ive been playing for 9 months and thanks to you i can impress all my friends at school! please do a tutorial for nothing else matters solo
I always thought this solo was very hard to learn. On other videos i cant understand until i found this guy, Marty. He's the best teacher in the world!!! I just finished learning the solo. THANKS MARTY YOUR MY HERO.
YES! Marty I asked if you could do the second solo and you did it. Thanks a lot man :-) ( Not ofcourse to mention the people who also requested the second solo ). Big thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Hey man I just watched your video but didn't have my guitar tobrun over it but tomorrow night I will!! I just wanted to thank you for breaking it down to where just about anyone could get it!! Even though it does go over so many similar notes it gets confusing. Lol thanks !!
thanks a ton marty! from india the first solo i ever learnt was sweet child o mine from ur lessons! the thing is i only have an acoustic so many of the songs i play sound bad(rock u like a hurricane)
Thanks Marty! I started guitar all because of this song and i hope to learn the whole song by practicing the solo 1 and 2!!!! still struggling with part 0:19
This is the very first song + (1st) solo I learnt when I was kid. Fast 4ward 30+yrs and I finally got around to learning the 2nd solo tonight thx to Marty Schwartz (God luv ya, Mate!). That's a pretty bad statistic: it took me over 30yrs to learn Knockin on Heaven's Door! But when I finally got to it, it took ten minutes. Ten flippin minutes! I should've done this before now! Hahaha.
i really like this song, because the solo's arent really that hard, and the intro is not very hard neither. :) and thanks marty, ive been searching for a lesson on this one!
how to get the sound: 1- you will need a les paul.(i have an epiphone les paul standard) 2- your amp(i use line 6 spider 4) 3-guitar fx(line 6 amp) 4- use neck pickup( i use dimarzio evo neck) 5-minimum tone on the neck pickup(this is the key to the sound) 6-some distortion( not 4 death metal, just heavy metal) 7- delay 8- a bit of reverb( this could be optional) i hope this helped thums up so everyone can see it!!!
Thx so much for your time Marty, we all aprecciate very much your lessons. Some of us would like to know what EFFECTS and settings u were using on this one. that will be a cool ADD to the whole lesson. :). Its very difficult to find someone with your kindness for teaching. Again. Thx Mr. M. !!!!
love this lesson!!!! totaly messed my morning up lmao!!! just heads up you play the intro diffrent then you teach it ;) i preffer they way you play it at the start of the vid.... would love it if on these you let the backing trac play thru at the end so can practice with it... dont have a looper :(
Yea its a little different basically when you play the part at 0:08 you tuck your pinkie under to the 15th fret on the high E, so 14 bend, then 15 on high e then 15 on the B
Can you start covering or teaching more intermediate/advanced songs like Cliffs of Dover or the not-so-fast The Loner by Gary Moore? I'd love to see how you play/teach them! That'd be great! Thanks Marty!
I've been playing for 21 years and I still appreciate the patience that goes into slowing songs down like this for people.
Et 8:56r 8:56. Mm mm min. Iyuuuu g😮 8:56
J
That tone is just so fucking juicy.
Hey Marty, just want to say thanks and also say that your teaching is accurate and simple as well as easy to comprehend. I often remind people that we were all beginners when we started and your teaching shows that you haven't forgotten about them.
Rock on brother \../
I've been playing for 8 weeks and I've learned this I'm happy I'm 12 ☺️☺️☺️☺️
cool I'm 2 and I've known this for 4 years
This is an old video but I still come and find you Marty and watch to learn how to play solos and such. You make it look so easy and you make me feel confident in learning just watching your playing and me following suit. Thanks Marty keep em coming

Im a fetus and i learned this song less than 5 minutes😊
I have adhd and got the 1st solo down but the 2nd solo i can't play for the life of me..thanks for encouragement..
Man...awesome!!! You´re really a very good teacher, budy. Keep teaching. I´m 41 and I always wanted to play that solo. Congrats.
How does he get such a juicy tone? Mine sounds so thin compared to his
A combination of distortion and how good his guitar is
Shadpio actually its the distortion and the tone, he is using the neck pickup, slash often use the neck pickup in his solos
In Slashes book he said he used a 1958 Gibson Explorer with the tone turned down on the bass pickup.
I Just want to say thank you Marty for sharing you talent and teaching us RUclipsr's how to get better at the guitar.
awesome lesson, but 3:00 - slash actually uses his pinky alot in his solos.
who gives a crap if Slash uses his pinky,, get a grip....
You sound like someone that loves guitars, but doesn't know how to play.
Best teacher on you tube without a doubt.
nooo i dont have enough frets to play this solo
how? are you on acoustic
Malcolm Boyd im playing on my fender squier, it only has 21 frets
I have a lyon something or other and even though it has enough frets it has so much body at that part of the neck it's virtually impossible for me to cleanly play anything past the 20th fret
same here
That's weird i'm playing on a Fender Strat and i have 22 frets.
marty...U ROCK...u made the most untalented guy playing a little solo from slash!...thx 4 ur xcellent lessons, u r doing a phantastic job!

Elias do not let people with too much time on their hands bother you.
You do have a right to express your opinion.
That's some astonishing Les Paul you got there!
For those having trouble tuning it just look up how to tune your guitar to E Flat or a half step down and go to one of the ehow vids it helped me alot

Hé Marty, you 're the best! thanks for your lessons. I hope you keep on teaching us!
how to get the sound:
1- you will need a les paul.(i have an epiphone les paul standard)
2- your amp(i use line 6 spider 4)
3-guitar fx(line 6 amp)
4- use neck pickup( i use dimarzio evo neck)
5-minimum tone on the neck pickup(this is the key to the sound)
6-some distortion( not 4 death metal, just heavy metal)
7- delay
8- a bit of reverb( this could be optional)
i hope this helped thums up so everyone can see it!!!
