Imagine when they were losing 6-0 to city someone told you they’d be in the champions league with Unai Emery in 4 years time with the added fact they sold their best player Jack grealish
These days Grealish still had a role to play....Now, he is the party organizer at City, an occasional player, and in 3 seasons still makes the same moves he made at Villa...well, one of the moves, inside to the right, all before he gets fouled...Jack the lad is enjoying the fame of City, but his actual relevance is minimal...He's become rich, get medals and plans the parties no doubt...literally the bon vivant of the players. He has lost any real impact, and the odd flurry he gives is limited...Never worth 100 mill, never a City player...just an extra to sub in or out.
That team in 2019/20, where are they now? And look where Aston villa are at the moment, champions league football next season playing brilliant football under a world class manager and it's all looking bright
Imagine what Arsenal fans have seen since the 2019/20 season! With only two games remaining, they could have officially buried us at Villa Park. Anything but a win would have mathematically sent us down, losing Grealish at a 50% discount in the process. We beat them 1-0, and stayed up. Next we take their keeper and do the double on them the following season. Eventually AVFC take the Gunners old manager, who again does the double on them THIS season. And the result at the Emirates probably finishes their title hopes again for 23/24. One result can change the complete trajectory of any club. BTW, 5 games after that initial Arsenal victory....Villa were beating the reigning champions Liverpool 7-2. Foresight Reply
Yeah it’s mental i stupidly thought you’d get relegated with ease in 20/21 but instead you stay up play very well finish 11th and become a European side in a few years
@@Maxmorris12 It was always a 5 year plan when we got promoted. But goals each season have to be set and hopefully achieved. Staying up was number one priority after we came up through the play offs(finished 5th in the Championship and that was with a ten game winning run towards the end of 2018/19). Growing the squad and experience came next(maturing). This season was about a 50+ game season and the rigmarole of Thurs/Sunday football. Something many of our squad have never experienced. Now hopefully for the first time, we can get a 25 man squad where two equally decent sides can be swapped around for 4 competitions. Rome wasnt built in a day. But standards must be set and hit. We will need to win a trophy one day to say if it really worked or not. Peace out brother and enjoy Sunday, the summer and next season no matter what. I believe Arteta learned alot from his games against us during this whole period.
For all the ppl that say we wouldn't be where we are if Goaline technology was on remind urself of the clear and obvious point that was taken off us for no reason on Match day 5 Vs. Crystal Palace
People talk about the goalline technology failing, but that penalty for Fernandes against Man U is one of the all-time worst refereeing decisions in any league.
Villa were INCREDIBLY fortunate to survive this season. That Sheff Utd goal not given was inexplicable. And horrific signings like Wesley, Reina & Samatta were a joke.
Those three were the half decent signings we did make, Reina made a few crucial saves and was brought in because of Heston's injury, Wesley was actually decent until the injury and while Samatta wasn't amazing was again brought in because of injury. Drinkwater and Jota were the worst ones
@@sambrookes8001 didn't Samatta score like one goal? Dreadful. And yes Wesley had injuries but he can hardly be called a successful signing, particularly for the amount of money paid. Agree Drinkwater and Jota were awful signings and not Prem quality. As I say, Villa were extremely fortunate to survive that season.

A miracle we stayed up with Wes, Samatta and Davis as our strikers, and Jota, Ghazi and Trez as our wingers helping Joe.
Two things i think when watching this 1: how much better is our squad now? And 2: I had nearly forgotten how bad we were!

Wild to think where a lot of these players are now. AVFC have come a very long way. Pretty exciting stuff, UP THE VILLA!!!!

Amazing channel, what a roller coaster season, Covid saved us this season and Smith's job after the Leicester away game...we was DONE
Anyone else notice Jesus calling for handball when the goalkeeper saved it 😂😂

If the goal line technology had been switched on then the whole world would have combusted and Villa would have ceased to exist.

We deserved the Sheffield United disallowed goal, that palace decision by Kevin Friend is the worst decision I’ve ever seen
Crazy how Villa are in the UCL now because of one VAR mistake which would have seen them relegated again
Nothing to do with VAR. Goal line technology didn't work

It wasn't a VAR mistake though
Villa were done out of a point vs palace clearly so it evened itself out. Goal line tech failure was justice for them.
Christ on a bike, another clueless comment. Villa were absolutely robbed in the last minute vs Palace. Sheff Utd incident was in the first half.
