I'm glad they stayed. They have a nice fertile green valley to raise vegetables and beef. Maybe even hunt down a herd of buffalo to bring them back to care for them. That sort of thing.
These announcer guys selling cigarettes was "state of the Art Salesmanship" at that time. They could really make you want to try it. The way it was at the time. .... "This is iiiit ... L & M Filters ..."
"Modern" smoking. I'm suddenly thinking of a sci-fi anthology with a narrative framing device involving a storytelling AI with the semblance of an old prospector in the asteroid belt. "Smoking" in the future context involves sticking an imitation pipe in one's mouth and turning on a light inside, and is presumably simply a cultural relic. *AI:* Smoking used to be bad for you. People would burn leaves in a pipe like this, and smoke would come out. *Child:* I wondered why they called it "smoking".
The people who produced the TV program weren't the ones who produced the radio Gunsmoke programs, so Conrad and the other actors couldn't really expect to be picked up.. Radio was great, but Mr. Dillion and Doc were better on TV.
Unfortunately they didn't hire him because of his weight. Raymond Burr also tested for the part but didn't make it because of his weight. Obviously there were other actors that tried out. I just wish I knew what Conrad was thinking when he had to make that announcement ?I was shocked they had him do it. How is damn rude.
@@dreasmom2789 actually John Wayne was offered the roll as Matt Dillon but he couldn’t get out of his contract and instead suggested James Aeneas for the part. James had done a couple of movies with my John lol and he promised James was a great up and coming new actor and would be perfect to play Matt. There’s a great you tube vide of John introducing James before the first epi started😊
It makes a man watchful and a little lonely...🤠🐎🚬🍺💃
The radio version images are much better than TV
I agree
@@calvinsingletary8462me too, much better
I like them too.

I don't know why, but I'm craving an L&M.
That's unfortunate, especially since they're not made anymore.

🤠
Was Dillion ever wrong about California

And Amanda Blake was *very* easy on the eyes, but there can only be one Chester, and that’s Radio Chester!
William Conrad was da man!!
I think Howard McNear was far superior to Milburn Stone. I also prefer Parley Baer over Weaver...wish they'd have been on the TV version
Conrad must have been pretty peeved to have to announce that.
cell pat Imagine no Frank Cannon.......
Great show
He came up to James Arness belly button. He would not have been believable in that roll on TV
