    I had an infestation in our camper a few years ago. I was able to quickly eliminate the problem using poison and glue traps. I then started using Mouse Free which is a slippery, peppermint scented jelly that is applied via a sprayer and air compressor. I sprayed the underbelly of the camper with a big focus on the bumpers, tongue, and axles. Mice are unable to access any holes via the axles, bumpers, etc. as the jelly is slippery and they fall off the surface that is sprayed. This is a great preventative approach and in case they are able to gain access to the interior of the camper, I still layer poison and glue pads throughout the camper as a secondary barrier. I haven't seen any evidence of a mouse in 2+ years since taking this approach.

    The best trap is a five gallon plastic bucket with two gallons of RV antifreeze in it so it doesn't freeze. A toilet paper tube is coated with peanut butter and suspended on a string tied across the bucket handle. A strip of wood is used as a ramp from the floor to the top of the bucket attaching it with tape or a hook at the top. The mice climb the ramp and jump to the peanut butter on the toilet paper tube. They then fall into the antifreeze and swim till they drown. When every other trap fails, this trap will catch six or more mice. The RV antifreeze keeps the bucket from freezing and keeps down the smell of the dead mice. This type of trap has been used for over two hundred years. In the old days they used a gallon jar half filled with water instead of a bucket but that only works where freezing isn't a problem. This trap works when all the others fail. Great for RVs and garages.

    In December 2018 we bought our new Jayco White Hawk 27RB. We live in Wisconsin just outside of town & we have corn fields on two sides of our property. A lot of mice in those fields, we store our trailer outside with an RV cover. I use bobcat PredatorPee, I spray the backside of the tires, the ground around the tires & the front tongue jack. I will do this a few times during the winter months. I also use the scent tags under the trailer. For the inside, I use the Bobcat Urine PeeShots on each side of the slide-out, one under the kitchen cabinets & one in the bathroom area. You can't smell the urine in the RV. Maybe I've been lucky so far be we have had no mice!!!! Living in Wisconsin our trailer is stored for 5 - 6 months through the winter. I wouldn't use any other product.

      Mice in your RV can be a real challenge. I have been going through a similar situation in our motorhome as you are experiencing. I tried all the repellent products for a while and nothing got them to leave. But the problem with the ceiling area is that there isn't room to use a mouse trap which works very well in most cases. So I decided to use poison baits myself. I used both Tomcat and Ramik baits. It appears that we have been successful with that approach. Of course, always follow the manufacturers direction for using this kind of product. Also, understand that bait poison takes several days to work, so it won't be quick. Of course, the downside is that the mice can die in your ceiling and you have an unpleasant smell for a short while. But you can't be nonchalant about mice in your RV due to the damage they can do very quickly. I also hate using poison baits, but if they won't come out in the open area of the RV, you just don't have much choice. If the baits had not worked, I planned on calling in a professional exterminator to get the job done. I don't know that any of this is helpful. But stay the course, be patient and persistent. And if all else fails, call in the pros!

    You said that a trap has done a set it and forget it solution. Thats exactly what it is. Sure you eventually need to remove the dead animal or reset a trap but it's really not a big deal. As long as you have enough active traps you'll be fine with checking it after winter is over

    A female mouse can give birth to 4 to a dozen every month. I put eufy cameras in my RV focused on 3 or 4 traps. I put each trap on a paper plate because when a mouse is trapped, it will release its bladder all over your carpets. When the Eufy motion cameras detect them I get a buzz buzz on my phones and video image. So I don't have to go out to the rv every day. I drop the dead ones on the ground outside and the raccoons and possum eat them each night. Mice will run along the walls and let out drops of urine as they go for the can find there way back to the nest. One of the best you tube videos with all you need to know about these vermin is "Mouse trap monday" . A paper plate with a cup of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar , 1/2 cup baking soda, sun flour seeds rolled in peanut butter will kill mice and rats. Because they can not regurgitate and they will die because the baking soda will make them want to vomit. I have killed over 78 mice and 27 rats in my RV and do to all that's there for them to eat they have caused no damage to my RV. You can buy spray foam in a can capsaicin which is hot chilly peppers which the can and will not try to eat through. The. Bucket with water works very well. Except in the winter the water will freeze. So I use dry cat food mixed with poison on the bucket. Happy Hunting.

    Steel wool is used as fire starter for it's ability to catch fire and burn hot from just one spark or a small current from a battery. See videos on how to start fire using steel wool to see this in action. Anyone who stuffed steel wool into the cracks of their vehicle will want to go back and un-stuff that before their vehicle burns down. Some foams are super flammable, some are not. If the container doesn't say I would test a small piece of the foam with a lighter before using it in a van. To see just how explosively flammable some foam can be watch the video "Curious worker ignites foam, causes huge warehouse fire in China". Imagine all the people that used that foam in their buildings and RV's that are now literally just one spark away from an explosive fire!

    I have watched many videos of keeping rodents out of your camper, but NOT ONE talks about how mice have to "jump" almost 2ft in the first place to get in the camper. So, why not catch the mice to prevent them from climbing? Glue traps can be placed around tires and jack stabalizers. A mouse cannot jump 2ft onto the underbelly, they have to climb up something, be it the tire, the stabilizer, or electric wire and sewage lines. If you were to stick glue traps all around the areas, the mice wouldn't be able to get in the first place. So you would have to use a strong double sided tape to stick to the bottom of the rectangular glue trap. Stick that around each tire, each stabilizer and around the water and electric hook ups. Just to be sure, stick glue traps all over the underbelly.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  3 года назад

      That's actually a good suggestion Benjamin. But it requires that you keep a constant supply of traps set out to prevent entry. And many RVers have found glue traps to not be as effective as good old regular mouse traps. But the more traditional kind of traps require a constant supply of bait that has to last through rain and everything else that being outside in the elements will throw at it. So for many, they just deal with the problem as it arises in the RV. But you raise an interesting optional way of dealing with a mouse problem if it is getting really severe. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Quick help please!! What do you do after you sealed and closed up all the holes that they were getting into from the outside, but by the time you did it it was too late and they were already in the RV? I did all the preventive measures before that: put glue traps with peanut butter, sprayed inside and outside with peppermint oil, used bounce dryer sheets, cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar, even bleach. They all work and they weren't in the RV before that.The problem is I had to keep replenishing them and they are expensive and run out easily. I keep the RV clean, sweep everyday, throw out trash, try to keep food covered and away from them. But when it got windy and cold, they made their way in and now are avoiding the traps no matter where we put them.
    My husband isn't afraid of them, I am and yet I feel like I am taking it more seriously than he is. He thinks there's only one, I know there's more and we haven't been able to catch any of them with glue traps except the first one. Glue traps aren't 100% effective either. We used black glue traps which used to be the best, but not anymore. I saw 2 mice step on them and not even get stuck. One thing you haven't tried so far from what you said is using a predator pee product to scare them away from the RV. This is one that I have heard can have good success with mice - amzn.to/2AXOams Other than that, I wish I had a better answer for you but when all else fails, the only sure fire method of ridding mice from your RV is to use some form of rodent poison. You have to be very careful with it and follow the directions on the product label carefully. But here is a link to the most popular mouse control product - amzn.to/2CxFUu3 And here is the product that is even more powerful than that - amzn.to/3lKHYTv It can be a real struggle sometimes when mice set up shop in your RV. We have a cat that we feed just enough to stay healthy. She would definitely eat a mouse if one came into her range.
    For this reason, I never recommend poisons of any kind. Poisons often kill the rodent's predators, who help keep the rodent population down quite a bit.
    Where I live there are a LOT of healthy birds of prey, minks, coyotes, feral cats, etc. I'm quite certain that doing anything to kill off these predators, would cause a drastic increase in the rodent population!

      Sorry to hear about that Marilyn. It seems that what works well for some RVers doesn't work at all for others. Like you say, just keep trying various remedies until you find what works best for your situation. Mice are tricky little fellas.

      A lot of folks use peanut butter as an attractant, or maybe peanut butter on something like a raisin. But TomCat also makes an attractant that seems to work pretty good too.

    Well for me it's a mouse trap with peanut butter the best trap, but maybe I should get a bobcat or 2 ;-)

      Yep, I still like the good old mouse trap too. It just seems to work the best overall. But the bobcat's not a bad idea either ... LOL

      It works great in the beginning, but if you don't catch them all at once they get smart and avoid them. Unfortunately the predicament I am in 😔

      What's funny is almost every mouse repellent item used in RVs has owners that say it works great and other owners that say it didn't work at all. And Irish Spring is one of those that can go both ways. Thanks for watching!

    Another reason to not use poison is they might go out again and then the creators that eat them are eating the poison through the mouse.

    I used Irish Spring soap and the mice ate it. Do not waste your time.

      You can find someone who had bad results with almost all of the non-lethal repellents I mentioned. But you can also find just as many people who swear that it worked wonders for them. I say try it and see what happens. If it doesn't work for you, move on.

      Use rubber gloves when handling bait because if mice smell human scent they won't touch the bait. And Irish spring soap does work. I can't even stand the smell of it.

    May I ask what is the purpose of pretending to be "humane" to a disease-carrying, parasite-hosting, destructive little beast? We will never get rid of the mouse population, so why pretend that you are a Mouse-Savior and that you have an irresistible urge to take it on a walk and set it loose? The jaws of a spring-loaded mouse trap is what they deserve. That is why we call them a pest. I just love to hear that loud snap sound at night. I smile and go back to sleep in my cozy RV.

      I understand how you feel. And there are lots of ways that I mentioned in this video to avoid killing mice. But if they don't work, you will have to decide for yourself whether you will accept the potential of thousands of dollars worth of damage to your RV or take stronger measures that you find unpleasant. The choice is yours. But thanks for watching.

    So… if you put predator urine in your camper, I would think that smell would be throughout the RV especially when it gets warm out. Doesn’t sound like a good idea.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  2 года назад

      Hi Dave. I wouldn't put predator urine inside my RV. It's better to use it outside around the perimeter of the RV. That way it repels pests but doesn't stink up your living area.

  • @NathanielNoble67
    @NathanielNoble67 10 месяцев назад

    INHUMANE is a term u can use in relation to other other humans, not animals. To even recommend to release these pests that can create damage of thousands of dollars, it's just plainly stupid. Only Americans would make such statements!
