This video was very informative. This is a topic I've been thinking about recently. Interesting for the Raw card side that you buy singles to get them graded. I've purchase raw and sold raw. The way you explained how to profit and the time commitment was great. It almost felt like you were talking to someone like me in your video here. The 3 main priorities in life are important to have set straight. You mentioned how much time you have to invest in the Raw card side, and I can agree to that. It does require a lot of time for the Raw card side. You literally have to live and breath Pokemon cards. Great video! Would be cool if you made more video's on this topic in the future as you grow bigger.
Nice perspective on how to make it in the pokemon card exosystem. There are people who buy and do nothing and there are others who operate a business. I sell singles on TCGPlayer. I grind out 5 cent cards, sorting them, conditioning them, alphabetizing them, filing them, pulling them, and packing them. Is it the best hourly rate? No. But I enjoy the grind and am able to build up my profits and reinvest back into the business. Would love for you to do more content on how you determine what cards to grade (conditioning) and how you identify cards to acquire for grading. Thanks Brew.
Yeah I actually will definitely do more content on that as I will be grading more often next year. I purposely took all of this year off from grading to just focus on acquiring cards but I’ll definitely be getting back into it soon.

@@adrianlokito1995 In Japanese it’s easy just order from good Japanese sellers on eBay. English is way more about your area or events and ability to source locally if you want a high rate of 10s. Because you need to inevitably be able to actually and accurately pregrade the card.

Great video! I have so many questions. When it comes to purchasing singles, how much time to you usually take to vet the quality to try to ensure it grades a 10? How frequently are you right that they end up getting 10's? How much loss is factored in when some of these cards come back in anything less than a 10? How long on average does it take to get the cards back? I just did my first sub and got 6 out of 8 10's. took just shy of 4 months to get them back. I would make a large profit margin if I sold, but they're all sentimental personal pulls from significant times, so I couldn't bring myself to do it. I have only been investing in sealed, I definitely fall into the category of someone who has no time to be grading/buying/shipping constantly. I havent taken any profits yet on anything ive invested in, so it would be pretty sweet to try picking up some singles to grade and flip.
You sound a lot like me 2 and a half years ago lol. 1st tip. You can save a lot of time when looking through cards by pregrading the back 1st, then the front (if necessary). 1000% the best “investment” I made in Pokemon was quickly learning to grade & flip. Reinvest profits partly into more flip plays, some sealed of just the banger sets like Evolving (though I was late to the game) & 151. 10k out of pocket + profits reinvested in the past year, collection sitting at 29k value in just a year. Some is just dumb luck like getting into the hobby right as a bull market was coming on.. but grading and flipping is so easy with just the smallest bit of research needed. Though I admit it’s easier if you have a good amount of starting capital.
The second best thing I did was to buy a slab display case for my son. Limits us to keeping 30 “bangers” at any given time that he deems case-worthy. If a new one hits the case, one has to get sold off. Otherwise I’d have a hard time forcing myself to sell because I like way too many!

Then definitely don’t do it! I collected for years before I started thinking about making money. And the hobby itself is much more important to me than financial gain to begin with. Only because I do love Pokemon, did I consider putting the time and effort into finding a way to monetize it. A majority of my life, I could not do what I’m doing now. I definitely appreciate my master set binders and think genuine binder collecting is the healthiest way to enjoy the hobby 💪
I think both are valid and have their place. I don’t think they are directly comparable either. Like yes both investing both in Pokémon but two very different approaches. Personally for me sealed investing for my life makes way more sense. Personally I don’t get it. Like except for some exceptions, if I get a case of booster boxes I’m hunting some pokemon down. For me it’s made to be opened. I get the other side but not for me. I am super tempted by the Charizard UPCs cause I love all the Charizard in there, especially Kaiju Charizard lol. I should grab one of those UPCs….
They were soo cheap 2 years ago and on a ridiculous GameStop sale. They are probably 1 of the best overall products Pokemon has ever made

Ripping sealed in hopes of getting gradeable cards is mostly gambling lol
It’s 100% gambling. Definitely buy raw 💪
