My guess is there is some significant real scientific research he’s referencing. He seemed quite certain in that aspect; he repeated it I believe 3 times - he clearly believes it. Knowing human nature, it seems quite reasonable that there is a quantifiable slice of the electorate that would operate that way; particularly in such a volatile time. People are torn - there is that chunk in the middle - moderate Republicans, old-school conservative (labor) Democrats that aren’t happy with the extremes of either Party. I’m sure people are of two-minds and torn about how to vote; now more than ever maybe.
This was an interesting segment and a better approach to news than I’ve seen in a while. More like an old PBS segment of people actually listening to each other, asking questions and not just trying to score their point.

Statistically people who have a more immovable view or a more conservative view, have learned over time that becasue society changes all the time, that giving their opinion of why it should remain at the status quo, will always result in it not doing so. But they tend to assume someone is to BLAME for that... when in fact its just the way society works, and has worked since before history began.
There's a lot of evidence to back up that claim that if you select 100 conservatively minded people at random, and 100 liberally minded people... then by the very nature of 'conservative' or 'liberals' there will be a difference in which side is willing to admit what! In fact there have been thousands and thousands of studies into this. You can look them up I'm sure on Google Scholar.
Now it won't be a huge difference but in the case of a poll it only needs to be 2% -3% to throw the entire estimates out by 10%
It still does not get the pollsters off the hook since they are paid to know this and use filters to correct for it.

I read an article that talked about gerrymandering that was written by a nonpartisan college group. They said that out of the 44 cases of gerrymandering that they found, all but one was in the GOP's favor. Take a look at what Texas did to an all black town near Houston. They broke it in half and redrew the lines 150 miles for each to add it to Republican districts.

Thank you for this interesting idea, polls ahead of time never interested me. Polls can be deceiving, because when I have cold called citizens in the past, you can tell immediately which party wrote and paid for the script. Americans are smarter than they used to be, if they listen and hear either republican lead or democrat lead, they'll pass on a leading poll question. Soon it will be a thing of the past - Surveys and polling questions. People liked to be heard but not condemned.

I know I at least 'lost' this nasty religious bitch I tried to date in college who can't fathom the questioning of authority, but that's not really a bad thing. If people are that far gone, to hell with them. I don't want 'unity' with those people, they are trolls and want everyone sucked into their way of life. Them and their religious bigotry has left me thinking I'm damned no matter what, despite having a relationship with God all my life, so I guess I have the orange stain too. This obsession re the news cycle by and large hasn’t made most any more informés but rather, polarized. It’s as if we’ve forgotten what unites us as a nation.
The last time I felt like we really pulled together was just after 9-11, and it took an absolute disaster for that to happen.

The one thing about polling and narrow polling is the fact that the questions asked are either too narrow or too broad! Also what makes them think that a person answering their questions is doing so truthfully or won't change their mind the closer they get to election day? When you see the size of the sampling taken and then come up with a prediction with a +/- small percentage, you wonder if they are looking at a crystal ball to get their readings. Take a sample of 1,000 people and apply +/- of 3%. That's a total of 30 people that they aren't sure of. Are they saying 970 people told the truth when they answered the questions and the other 30 were iffy?
The pollsters need to rethink how they poll and be specific when creating their questions if they are trying for reliability. I never bother with polls as I feel the person voting at that moment may or may not change their mind while filling out their ballots.

Yes, Dems won the governor races in OR and NY but the Dems underperformed and it costed them about six House races total in those two states. Stephen Bailey...I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Especially that the media needs to stick to talking about the candidates and their records & ideas (or lack of).
It's true voters can change their minds at any time. I think campaign professionals are likely giving their opinions, rather than facts. Not everyone will look at a situation or statistics and come to the same conclusions.
As far as the polls go, who do they choose to include in their polls, how do they choose all the criteria of polling info? I have never been included in a poll, and don't know of anyone who has.
Since I have no information about who is conducting a poll, who is chosen for the data, and why, I have no faith in polls.
The only way I believe polls can have an impact, is if potential voters hear of polls claiming an overwhelming victory of one Party or candidate over another. Believing the accuracy of such a poll might make some potential voters feel like it's not worth bothering to vote if their choice of Party or candidate is not going to win - according to the polls. Following that reasoning, I believe polls can have an impact - but not a good one - on the actual voting result.
I never pay attention to polls, don't take them seriously. I plan to vote, no matter what pollsters predict. As we have seen, the polls are often very wrong in their predictions.

An unusually honest and neutral appraisal of the situation for CNN; given here by Mr. Luntz. How and why the American electorate didn't vote to stop the social and economic destruction of their countty being pursued by the present ruling party, I will never understand as long as I live. I'm not an American myself, but I follow extremely closely the happenings and developments in that country.

A pollster that gets his numbers from the two parties contending to win the election? How would he know if their numbers are accurate or skewed to favor their particular narrative, if he doesn't do his own research and generate his own data? Almost certain if his assessment was correct he wouldn't be saying he got the numbers from the DNC or the RNC. Useless!

      Went to the fortune teller
      Had my fortune read
I didn't know what to tell her
I had a dizzy feeling in my head
When she took a look at my palm
She said "Son, you feel kinda warm"
And she looked into her crystal ball
      And said, "You're in love"

Simply put, they didnt consider actual data. Meidas Touch had a couple experts using data, instead of polls to make their predictions; and all of the mainstream media and pollsters said they were wrong and laughed at them... who's laughing now? The Meidas Touch videos are well wortha watch.

Another thing media alway do town halls with conservatives and the majority of the country are not Trump supporters.
