Knowing human nature, it seems quite reasonable that there is a quantifiable slice of the electorate that would operate that way; particularly in such a volatile time. People are torn - there is that chunk in the middle - moderate Republicans, old-school conservative (labor) Democrats that aren’t happy with the extremes of either Party. I’m sure people are of two-minds and torn about how to vote; now more than ever maybe. This was an interesting segment and a better approach to news than I’ve seen in a while. Guessing he means that answering with their political convictions could be used to target the person in a hostile way. Supporting conservatism hasn't been easy in a divided climate. He could also mean that if the media presents the idea that republicans are winning, it could lead to complacent and a worse voter turnout for them.
Yeah I think this is such nonsense. Every conservative I've ever met can't wait to tell you how conservative they are. You know who doesn't answer polls? Busy moms who don't want another kid they didn't plan for and gen Z progressives who don't answer the phone for numbers they don't know.
Statistically people who have a more immovable view or a more conservative view, have learned over time that becasue society changes all the time, that giving their opinion of why it should remain at the status quo, will always result in it not doing so. But they tend to assume someone is to BLAME for that... when in fact its just the way society works, and has worked since before history began. There's a lot of evidence to back up that claim that if you select 100 conservatively minded people at random, and 100 liberally minded people... then by the very nature of 'conservative' or 'liberals' there will be a difference in which side is willing to admit what! In fact there have been thousands and thousands of studies into this. You can look them up I'm sure on Google Scholar. Now it won't be a huge difference but in the case of a poll it only needs to be 2% -3% to throw the entire estimates out by 10% It still does not get the pollsters off the hook since they are paid to know this and use filters to correct for it.
They have been polling the same ‘Old’ group of people. These pollsters do not call the younger generations on their cell phones; they called the old people, like me, two and three times asking the same question. They are not very smart🤫
Right on. The polls are often owned by the Right. They no longer mean anything excepect to people who work in politics as a profession. We do and even stopped paying attention. In Zoom meetings we just stayed quiet after being shouted down about veracity of polls. Who was right?
Right these days you never know what lunatic is going to get ahold of your personal info and pay u a visit w a gun and a trump flag to “persuade” you to vote against your principles.
As a Brit who is neutral in US politics I would interpret your comment as meaning your embarrassed by the republican party but you won't admit it publicly. Can't say I really blame you tbh after the behaviour of your last president.
I read an article that talked about gerrymandering that was written by a nonpartisan college group. They said that out of the 44 cases of gerrymandering that they found, all but one was in the GOP's favor. Take a look at what Texas did to an all black town near Houston. They broke it in half and redrew the lines 150 miles for each to add it to Republican districts.
I've never known anyone who was undecided when they went to the voting place. I've met and spoke to people who just don't care, but never deciding at the poll. Thank you for this interesting idea, polls ahead of time never interested me. Polls can be deceiving, because when I have cold called citizens in the past, you can tell immediately which party wrote and paid for the script. Americans are smarter than they used to be, if they listen and hear either republican lead or democrat lead, they'll pass on a leading poll question. Soon it will be a thing of the past - Surveys and polling questions. People liked to be heard but not condemned.
Non-partisan polling companies with posters doorknocking in all types of neighborhoods would get better results. They could even ask followup questions.
The pollsters didn't get anything wrong. We all know what happened. It's blatantly obvious, the big white elephant in the room that the MSM tries to sweep under the carpet and dismiss outright.
Maybe, but he is also totally right about the wrong focus the media has had for years on the political game, instead of the quality of candidates, asking politicians about their policies, confronting politicians about receiving dark money, etc... There are so many more valuable things these reporters could be spending their time on!! But they do not. That is a conscious decision made by these broadcasters. And IMHO it has led to democratic decline that they do not do their jobs right.

I called Trump a traitor after January 6th. Now I don't get invited to birthday parties, BBQs, weddings, etc. That man has left a giant orange stain on my life and this nation's history. Things will never go back to normal even if he is held to account (which I fully doubt).
Sorry to hear that, you must live in a very MAGA area. I went all out on Jan 6 on Facebook and showed off flying my American flag in a 'nation in distress' position and just got tons of praise from people I know. I know I at least 'lost' this nasty religious bitch I tried to date in college who can't fathom the questioning of authority, but that's not really a bad thing. If people are that far gone, to hell with them. I don't want 'unity' with those people, they are trolls and want everyone sucked into their way of life. Them and their religious bigotry has left me thinking I'm damned no matter what, despite having a relationship with God all my life, so I guess I have the orange stain too. It's just much bigger than Trump, I don't blame him specifically for it. I blame a faction of society.

I grew up in the 80’s. By and large, politics weren’t an “obsession.” There were a few people who were “policy nerds” who watched Meet the Press” or “Face the Nation.” Mostly though, people watched the 30 min national news, checked out the newspaper and then went about their day. This obsession re the news cycle by and large hasn’t made most any more informés but rather, polarized. It’s as if we’ve forgotten what unites us as a nation. The last time I felt like we really pulled together was just after 9-11, and it took an absolute disaster for that to happen. There’s now way too much financial incentive for CNN, Fox, MSNBC, Newsmax etc for them to follow politics like a sports event vs a serious discussion about policy.
@@damonmusha6504 I grew up as a teen in the 80's and it was a wonderful time --- you barely heard about politics unless you watched "The McLaughlin Group" or some wonky political show like that --- it was all about cultural stuff like TV shows, music and movies back then ---- let's return to that glorious time!
Who has a landline any more except seniors and even if the pollsters called on a cell line who answers unknown calls? Except seniors. So pollsters and fraudsters are both preying on our seniors.
"You guys focus way too much on predicting who's gonna win and lose". Says the pollster that is trying to explain why he got his predictions completely wrong. Seriously, why do we even meme?
The one thing about polling and narrow polling is the fact that the questions asked are either too narrow or too broad! Also what makes them think that a person answering their questions is doing so truthfully or won't change their mind the closer they get to election day? When you see the size of the sampling taken and then come up with a prediction with a +/- small percentage, you wonder if they are looking at a crystal ball to get their readings. Take a sample of 1,000 people and apply +/- of 3%. That's a total of 30 people that they aren't sure of. Are they saying 970 people told the truth when they answered the questions and the other 30 were iffy? The pollsters need to rethink how they poll and be specific when creating their questions if they are trying for reliability. I never bother with polls as I feel the person voting at that moment may or may not change their mind while filling out their ballots.
I mean tbh. The media really drove the red wave narrative lmao. The polls were pretty good. They slightly over estimated the GOP. But the media took that and said "Polls over estimated theGOP in 2016 and 2020, therefore it will do it again and so there will be a red wave." The polls were fine mostly. The narrative created around them was wrong.
I think it's good to remember that gerrymandering affects the House rather than the Senate. So states controlled by one party or the other do not have that particular tool to influence what are statewide elections.
House races are also heavily influenced by the top of the ticket, in this case Senate and Governor races. PA, MN, NH, KS, IL, NM, CO and MI fared very well because of their top-of-ballot success for Dems. NY, OR and FL not so much. Yes, Dems won the governor races in OR and NY but the Dems underperformed and it costed them about six House races total in those two states. The question is do those flip to Dems in 2024 with it being a Presidential year, and the answer is yes, most likely.
You see what happen in Michigan when the people voted to end gerrymandering and made Unconstitutional in State Constitution to gerrymander for 40 years Republicans held both the House and Senate in state government now it held by the Democrats.
But that's exactly why Trump pushed through the 2020 Census... so that Red States could gerrymander an unfair advantage (which many did as part of "election security"...a few, like AK, were sued because of how biased their redistricting was. Because of the existing bias on SCOTUS no state was forced to adjust biased redistricting) that's why... even as "Dark Brandon" rose & got policies passed... Republicans were still (are still) expected to win the House. They structured it that way after the Census & The Big Lie
The Dobbs decision and all the women and young people. That's what happened. Turns out half the population doesn't like to be made second class citizens.
You have to understand women are afraid now, don't want to answer polling questionnaires because of Dobbs. That's why the polls were off. We are mad as hell, don't want to talk, just ready to vote and act to correct this horrible decision in 2022!
The media needs to stop touting polls and endlessly analyzing them. (Because the campaign professionals don't know anything.) Stick to dissecting the candidates' records and their ideas. That would truly do a service for the public.
Stephen Bailey...I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Especially that the media needs to stick to talking about the candidates and their records & ideas (or lack of). It's true voters can change their minds at any time. I think campaign professionals are likely giving their opinions, rather than facts. Not everyone will look at a situation or statistics and come to the same conclusions. As far as the polls go, who do they choose to include in their polls, how do they choose all the criteria of polling info? I have never been included in a poll, and don't know of anyone who has. Since I have no information about who is conducting a poll, who is chosen for the data, and why, I have no faith in polls. The only way I believe polls can have an impact, is if potential voters hear of polls claiming an overwhelming victory of one Party or candidate over another. Believing the accuracy of such a poll might make some potential voters feel like it's not worth bothering to vote if their choice of Party or candidate is not going to win - according to the polls. Following that reasoning, I believe polls can have an impact - but not a good one - on the actual voting result. I never pay attention to polls, don't take them seriously. I plan to vote, no matter what pollsters predict. As we have seen, the polls are often very wrong in their predictions.
Maybe media should do their due diligence and find out who sponsored the polls they're basing the predictions on. From what I've read from data analysts is that the polls were sponsored by the GOP.
No,not always. There are all kinds of political polls. From internal campaign polls, to University polls, to Newspaper and TV polls. While they may under or overweight conservatives, many are not funded by Conservatives. But no matter how much polling you do, you still never know for sure until the votes are counted. Better politicians will always start with better voters.
It has been widely reported and corroborated that the polling that we’ve been getting over the past 2-4 years has been Republican leaning. He even said they inflated the numbers because republicans thought they would get discouraged to show up to vote. So his polling intentional was designed to discourage the democrats from voting, which I know many who didn’t care to vote and wanted to embrace for a red wave! Thank god so many others didn’t rest. Polling is someone’s propaganda at this point, just be informed and be your own decider of the outcome!
No remarks of conservatives switching parties No remarks of demographics changing as in urban population increasing while rural population decreasing .
If you don't say "We have been reporting on GOP funded polls as actual news, SORRY." Then I'm going to scream. Mark Twain had it right. "Lies, damn lies and statistics."
Frank Lunz doesn't care that he was wrong. That comes with the territory of being a Republican shill. He's just happy he's on TV. He will never go away no matter how many times he's wrong.
That's because you don't understand polling , sample sizes, statistics or the limitations of polling. You are not supposed to take polling for gospel. It is a snapshot in time and a nuanced guide.
B.S! I did not win the lottery for $2 billion dollars after I bought so many tickets, therefore at this point, I think they are cheating. I demand an investigation. I demand a real-life drawing of the Powerball with spinning wheels. All tickets must be bought on the same day and be drawn on the same day! This must be done until I win, and only then shall I consider the process legitimate!
Kind of weird to say the GOP got more votes when California still has many millions of outstanding ballots to count. Let's see where we stand in a week or two. My guess is GOP will lose the popular vote by a little, and win the house by a few seats. But let's see.
Unless at least basic machines are used or hundreds of more elections workers are higher. Remember Arizona elections have been controlled by Republicans for decades and decades.
The irony is that if they really believe everything should be counted in one day, then their candidate already lost because she's trailing in the count. I wonder how their opinions might change if she ends up winning.
Also Arizona elections have been run by Arizona Republicans for decades and decades. They could have changed it to counting early ballots as soon as the polls closed decades ago.
When was the last that the polls were even close to accurate? The polls are not representative of our population. When was the last time anyone polled you or I about anything, and what working age person would take the time to answer a telephone poll?
Probably when most people didn't have cell phones. I keep hearing that polls are done over landlines, which doesn't seem like that should be the case anymore. However, if a pollster has called my cell, I wouldn't have answered because I don't answer calls from numbers I don't know.
Shorter Frank Luntz: "I am a Republican pollster and campaign strategist who has bills to pay. What the Hell makes you think I'm going to tell my client list what they REALLY don't want to hear? Or that my work isn't worth spit?"
Frank Luntz is a Democrat, just less extreme than Adam Schiff, so he can work with Republicans when they hire him. He is not a Republican strategist, by any definition, just used by them as a resource. If it were a case of not telling his clients what they did not want to hear, why were Democratic Party pollsters also worried about the election results a few weeks in the future? They don’t care what his numbers are, after all.
Yet he says NOTHING about how him and all the other pollsters totally left out gen Z. When you can’t figure out what you did wrong your gonna do it again and again! Get a new job dude!
Luntz is wrong. Redistricting has nothing to do with the GOP receiving less seats than what their national popular vote would suggest. When you look at the results on a state-by-state basis, you would see that redistricting after the 2020 census has actually favored Republicans, not Democrats.
I think it may have been a comedian who said it, but I remember hearing someone saying they tend to call landline phones. There just aren't many of those left. That being said, both parties polled A LOT on social media. I also got texts, most of which I summarily ignored, fearing security issues if I clicked on the link. Not sure how much credit I'd give those types of polls in the future.
Frank Luntz: "We need to bring America back together again!" Frank Luntz 20 years ago in focus groups: "How do we re-brand racism into 'urban violence?'"
You put your finger on it. This is what Luntz does. Instead of saying racism and it gets tied to Republicans, Luntz will tell the republican strategists to call it" Urban violence" and that will turn the onus on minorities when they react to racism. Luntz is a gaslighter who is also responsible for saying the ACA will kill grandma! Or let's say it's Obama care and it kills grandma. This of course is a distortion of the facts, or alternate facts. The sad thing is, rightwingers buy it all wholesale because it sounds more damaging than it really is, This is the root of the division of all parties and we now have the extremist rightwingers in elected office. Frank luntz and the likes of him are what's wrong with politics in America I'm 66yrs and we had political discourse always, but not to the extent we have today where we now have pollsters and strategists like Luntz and others and they get rich by dumbing down voters!
Polls cannot speak for everyone!!!! It's his job and it's a guess. How do you know what a person is thinking?? Come on man!!! He needs to get a Real Job!
An unusually honest and neutral appraisal of the situation for CNN; given here by Mr. Luntz. How and why the American electorate didn't vote to stop the social and economic destruction of their countty being pursued by the present ruling party, I will never understand as long as I live. I'm not an American myself, but I follow extremely closely the happenings and developments in that country.
A pollster that gets his numbers from the two parties contending to win the election? How would he know if their numbers are accurate or skewed to favor their particular narrative, if he doesn't do his own research and generate his own data? Almost certain if his assessment was correct he wouldn't be saying he got the numbers from the DNC or the RNC. Useless!

Simply put, they didnt consider actual data. Meidas Touch had a couple experts using data, instead of polls to make their predictions; and all of the mainstream media and pollsters said they were wrong and laughed at them... who's laughing now? The Meidas Touch videos are well wortha watch.
I love the Meidas Touch videos! I rarely watch mainstream media because they do not hold any of these people to account. They don't ask the questions that they should ask, and they are beholden to the corporations that advertise on their network.

I wonder if in HS and later in college... if his fellow students called him "Frank Klutz".
We didn’t change our minds. It was a large group of us that decided to not tell pollsters that we were actually voting BLUE!!!!
Polling in general has some accuracy problems lately.
What is this “nonpartisan college group” of which you write?
I've never known anyone who was undecided when they went to the voting place. I've met and spoke to people who just don't care, but never deciding at the poll. Thank you for this interesting idea, polls ahead of time never interested me. Polls can be deceiving, because when I have cold called citizens in the past, you can tell immediately which party wrote and paid for the script. Americans are smarter than they used to be, if they listen and hear either republican lead or democrat lead, they'll pass on a leading poll question. Soon it will be a thing of the past - Surveys and polling questions. People liked to be heard but not condemned.
You haven't met my husband.
Non-partisan polling companies with posters doorknocking in all types of neighborhoods would get better results. They could even ask followup questions.

Trump didn't do that to you. The conservatives you know did it. Who did you think they were?
You should feel good for speaking truth and demanding accountability.

He is full of BS because voters do not go into the voting booth undecided in great numbers, which he implies. What he is doing is what the GOP has been doing to Midddle Class American voters for the last 40 years = "gaslighting".
FWIW, I think Luntz pulled that number directly out of his ass.

When me and mine discuss politics, you know how often we discuss whether Biden will run again? NEVER. We have discussed how obsessed the media is with asking that of every politician. I wish they would stop that and discuss actual news.
Yes, very good point. CNNs Bash asked NPelosi if the attack on her husband affected voting, had to ask her a couple of times before Bash got what she wanted...sheesh, political pandering, not news. Now the headline is "Nancy Pelosi says...

He's always been a bloviating Fox News tool. He's a partisan hack.
But the media took that and said "Polls over estimated theGOP in 2016 and 2020, therefore it will do it again and so there will be a red wave."
The polls were fine mostly. The narrative created around them was wrong.
I think it's good to remember that gerrymandering affects the House rather than the Senate. So states controlled by one party or the other do not have that particular tool to influence what are statewide elections.
Bingo!!!!
@@volcrazy89 I think Dems will gain at least 25 seats in 2024 in the House --- America wants to finally kill off Trumpism once and for all
You see what happen in Michigan when the people voted to end gerrymandering and made Unconstitutional in State Constitution to gerrymander for 40 years Republicans held both the House and Senate in state government now it held by the Democrats.

The media needs to stop touting polls and endlessly analyzing them. (Because the campaign professionals don't know anything.)
Stick to dissecting the candidates' records and their ideas. That would truly do a service for the public.
Also let's not forget about personal responsibility. People need to stop depending on the polls so much.
100%. Issues and Actions. That’s what we need from the media. No more opinions No more pollsters.
If they did that they'd lose a lot of their viewers. They are here to make money, and have no interest in public service.
Amen!
