- In today's video I am sharing our update using IEW's Structure and Style!
Free 3-Week Trial of IEW Structure & Style: iew.com/free-l...
We have been using this program for over 6 months and I wanted to share my honest thoughts on the entire program.
----------------------------------------
Hey Friends! My name is Ashlee, and I am a homeschooling mom to 3 kids. Currently, I have a 5th, 3rd, and pre-kindergartner!
I work full-time from home while balancing homeschooling. Thanks for being here! If you are watching this video, I am sure you love either motherhood or homeschooling as much as I do.
I am always looking for new ideas to create videos- If you are curious about how I do something in my homeschool or a specific curriculum- comment or message me I would love to research and create a video!

Have you tried IEW? What are your thoughts?
Jamie you are glowing, and really shinning. Keep living your best life.
Hugely helpful! Thank you! My almost 10 yr old son sounds similar to your middle daughter with “the confines”. I’ve adopted the Brave Writer lifestyle with him for years and he loves it, loves writing but is all goof and no real writing structure… I haven’t been super consistent, tho, either tbh. But I’m considering IEW to introduce the framework and use the editing loosely as a “partnership writing” sort of thing and pause IEW monthly or so to incorporate a Brave Writer project. Watching this video of yours helped me wrap my head around my probable game plan haha so thank you and good luck!!
They make an outline from the article then put the article away and rewrite the article using only the outline. This allows them to rewrite using their own words rather than copying. Then they add in style dress ups. Once they learn the sentence openers, that is when their writing really starts sounding sophisticated.
We started in January after my 10 year old decided he hated TGATB language arts…We are on week 9 but it’s like pulling teeth to get him to want to do IEW he just doesn’t like it but it has done wonders for his writing!
So now we are doing IEW every other week and BJU English on the off weeks 🤷🏻♀️
Oh that’s a good idea. I’m going through the same thing. We also have BJU.
Yes, please do a do a lesson with us.
I appreciate your feedback. I did start it weekly but realized quickly that it was not ideal. I will try either every other week or extend a week of work into two weeks. Thank you. I always find your videos helpful
Hi, are the streaming videos necessary?
For this version yes, they are teaching your child each lesson. There is a different program that is parent/teacher led without streaming videos
You are the only one that I actually felt was being honest the rest of the people that I hear talk about Iew I feel like they’re doing a sales pitch most of the time than being truthful
Have you decided what the "something different" you're going to use for your middle daughter yet? I have kids just like yours sounds like! I think this will work well for one, but I don't want to frustrated my more creative one.
Haven’t made a full decision yet. I do have a book called the Writers Tool Box, that explains elements of different writing projects like a fairy tale, poems, reports, scary stories and more. I might use that with her the rest of this year while my oldest completed IEW. I am also leaning on using MBTB full curriculum next year which includes writing and grammar elements
Thanks so much!
I’m very tempted to use this with my son because IEW spelling and grammar both work great for him. But I’m hesitant because TGATB teaches writing in such a fun way! Ugh, too many good choices lol. Great video!
Your middle daughter might benefit from Layers of Learning’s Writer’s Workshop. It is so fun and you learn all the skills but in a non conventional way and they get to be creative as possible.
I would love to see a lesson still though.
Do you like this better or moving beyond the page for language arts?
They are very different programs. IEW is a very specific writing program; MBTP covers many aspects of Language Arts. I enjoy both of them for different reasons.
Does your older child still love it? I am doing the trial with my 5th grader right now and he is loving it, but wondering if it will continue to be engaging. He is a reluctant writer, and lacks confidence, but does love the videos so far.
I heard about it. Would like to try in the future. Thank you for the information.
What your students ages?
3rd& 5th
Yes please a lesson with me would be great
Is this just learning how to summarize?
It starts that way but builds and eventually they write their papers on their own topics / research
Did you take the teacher course to grade papers …?
No I did not take the course, there is an instruction guide that tells you how to do it…which is what I’ve been using
I tried this Program and it was just too dry and too intense. We switched to EIW and its so much better!!!
We are switching from IEW to EIW as well. My kids started to hate writing and didn’t like the videos at all.
