lol as Crosby says that the goalie will play the percentages (by positioning) and their reflexes come after. It's such a sweet sound to hear a loud "ting" when the puck hits the post/crossbar and goes in.
The average shooting percentage for the 2018-19 NHL season was 9.46%. A total of 7,577 goals were scored on 80054 registered shots. Nathan MacKinnon led all players with 365 shots, scoring 41 goals for an 11.2% shooting percentage.
Snipes are intended to hit one of the 5 Holes (orginally named spots a goalie leaves uncovered by default whilst moving around the net) 2 new spots have been added to make it now 7 holes but these "Holes" are essentially the areas of the net that are left open by repositioning yourself as a goalie and it should be noted that its physically impossible to cover them all at the same time when facing a shot from any given angle on the ice, but the hardest ones to hit are top left top right and technically the hole between the legs known as the 5 Hole. From 1-7 The holes are as follows 1. Over shoulder right 2. over shoulder left 3. Lower rightside right Leg Pad 4. Lower Leftside of left Leg pad 5. Between the goalies legs. And the 2 new ones are 6. Under arm right side and 7. Under arm Left side. So hopefully this helps understand why Snipes are so epic because goalies work on closing every one of those holes and every goalie has a "weak hole" or one they struggle with the most so that also plays into shot selction as well. Once again love the videos bro keep em comming hell yeah road to 20k!!!
Ahh I see, I appreciate the breakdown bro. That makes more sense and gives me more of an idea of how crazy good precision these guys have when shooting. Much love bro
The hardest shot is over either shoulder next to the ear. If you can hit that you score. Period. General rule is to shoot from anywhere, just HIT THE NET.
Hardly anyone actually includes the 6th and 7th home though. Because they just aren’t really there when looking at a goalie in their stance, they’re areas that tend to open up when you shoot, or they’re angles areas so shots are more likely to bounced off the side of us and go in because it’s not a flat surface, but they aren’t really holes which is why none of us include them. Also there’s no real set spot for 1-4. I’ve heard people go too right to bottom left, I’ve seen people go bottom right to top left and everything in between. I’ve seen people say the 1 hole is always on the glove hand side so it depends on the handedness of the goalie. However the universal hole is the 5 hole that’s for sure
You should check out Elias Pettersson’s highlights, one of his career by Sports Montage called Elias Pettersson #40 | Highlights | and another on all his goals from the most recent season called Elias Pettersson (#40) All 32 Goals of the year 2021-22 NHL Season by Hatrickane!
It’s awesome to see you call out the players names recognizing the ones you’ve reacted to. I played for 20 years it’s such a fun sport and fun to watch.
I hope you become a full on hockey fan after reacting to so many videos! It’s an amazing sport once you realize and understand all the elements it takes to play the sport of hockey! Also. Another underrated part about the sport of hockey is the GOAL HORNS! When the home team scores. You should do a small video reacting to NHL goal horns!!
i love how you said no shot is a bad shot cuz thats exactly what we try to instill in young players. take the shot, no shot that's on net is a bad shot, anything can happen :) even the smallest piece of snow on the ice could redirect the puck in a way that gets by the goalie into the back of the net. biscuit in the basket. shark is in the tank. all that
Often you'll hear about keeping it simple, taking shots at the net. The only bad shot is the one you don't take. Send pucks to the net, you never know what might happen. Obviously you don't necessarily want to lose puck possession but taking a shot is rarely seen as a bad thing, even if the angle isn't very favorable because you can have redirections, either wanted or not, or you get a first stop that ends up giving a scoring chance to another player that might be well positioned and it might be the difference between scoring or not, especially when a team is going through a losing streak. But the snipes are definitely something mesmerizing!
I love watching people get into hockey for the first time, once you start watching hockey it’s tough to watch other sports bc it feels like they’re playing in slow motion. There’s no out of bounds in hockey, it’s possible to play 10-15 minutes without a single stoppage in play.
ahhh there's nothing better than the sweet sweet sound of the puck against the post...that "ting" is music to my ears. you should check out the best goals from this year's playoffs. i think there might be a top 10 vid out there, even though i feel there needs to be a longer video bc the amount of skill that was displayed this postseason was elite. especially from colorado
In fairness, for all of those that just tuck under the crossbar or into the corner, the same shot is missed quite a few times. It's a game of inches and the old adage is to keep putting the puck on net and eventually something good will happen. Such a great sport.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet. That sound you love so much, the puck hitting the post before going in. There's a couple names for it. If it hits the upright posts (left or right) it's just called "post-in" . If it rings off the crossbar it's called "bardown". Going bardown is basically adding insult-to-injury for the goalie and opposing team. It's a burn
5:24 I was at that game when Eichel went upstairs, hands down the sickest goal I've ever seen in person, I root for both of those teams but root for the Caps when they play each other and I couldn't even be mad about that goal 😂
i think you're my favorite channel that does hockey reactions. you have a very good sense of the game, especially for someone who has never really watched before
He never really became anything relevant in the NHL, but if you want to see one of the craziest shooters out there, I recommend looking for Teemu Pulkkinen compilations. He didn’t make it in the NHL because, even though his shot was crazy, he was slow, small, had subpar hands, and looked completely lost on defense, but the one thing he had going for him he dialed up to 11. Kid could shoot the wings off a mosquito.
in hockey shot selection isn’t super important and my coaches always say just to put pucks on net and see what happens so a lot of shots from bad angles are usually encouraged cuz you never know what might happeb
something kinda different to react to could be passing. I would suggest “the art of passing by Mitch Marner” … i would say Marners hockey iq and ability to visualize and set up goals are what he tends to be known for, even more then his ability to score highlight worthy goals of his own.
I think everyone who has never played hockey should try it once, even if it's just playing a little stick n' puck and taking some shots/passes. Most people will find it difficult to even raise the puck off the ice with any sort of speed.
You should watch highlights from this past season too to get really acquainted with the league, it doesn’t take as long as you think to get familiar with the league
Hockey is such an incredible sport. I love watching good hockey in general but as a Penguins fan trust me Sidney Crosby has made me have the same reaction numerous times 😂
Please do a johnny gaudreau reaction, hes the talk of hockey right now because he went to a team that nobody expected him to go to during free agency after having an unreal season with the Calgary flames
When hit with a slapshot, the puck travels at 90-100 MILES /hour. If something that small came at you at that speed from 10-15 feet away, do you know ANYONE who could have the reflexes to stop it... Now, just imagine what the best goalies have for reflexes... Because they STOP most of those... Charra hit one at 108.8 Mph.
After playing hockey and watching hockey for years on long island. Shooting the puck is kind of a reaction. I know where im standing, I know where the net should be. Shoot.
That Crosby one isn’t that crazy, Leon Draisaitl took one from on the line vs Ottawa. Leon gets no love because he plays with mcdavid but watching him shoot is crazy sometimes, dude literally will find the only hole on a goalie
At this point its instincts muscule memory and just overall skill and not as much as the player aiming. Yes they aim but in the moment they rely on the training they've had and spot the place where they want to shoot visualize it and then the muscules take over and the more training they've had the better chances there is that it will go in. Coming from a hockey player.
Goalies have insane reflexes. Those snipes are coming in hard, fast and laser focused. So great to watch.
lol as Crosby says that the goalie will play the percentages (by positioning) and their reflexes come after.

Hitting those crazy angles is like when you’re being deed up and you seem to have no shot but you still some how hit the jumper
Snipes are so satisfying

Yeah that’s whats crazy goalies be like 0.3 seconds to late and it’s already in the net

Draisaitl had one last year kinda like crosbys but it was below the goal line, legit no angle at all and it still went it it’s crazy
I don't usually like videos of goals cause I used to play goalie and it's depressing to watch lol but I like your reactions man

All that is happening on ice, while wearing razorblade shoes and there's 5 guy trying to take your head off!!! Hockey is the best sports.
Passing plays bro. Gotta add that to the list
Great snipes for sure. Some recency bias happening here, too. I feel like Mario Lemieux had quite a few goals from the impossible goal-line angle.
Poppin the bottle is glorified by the snipers muahhaha great reaction bruh keep up the good work man
Glad you enjoyed
