- In this video, I tested a question that I was asking myself, what would exactly happen if you removed a CMOS battery from a running PC. So to test this out, we put it to the test by pulling the CMOS battery out of our test bench while it was running windows. We found that you really won't be affected by this change however we don't recommend ever trying this as you could easily damage your motherboard. Anyone who succeeds in dropping their battery on the motherboard and damaging it somehow isn’t even technically savvy to find the CMOS battery in the first place lmao
Dont CMOS Batteries only work when the PC isnt plugged in? Which would mean even if you restarted it nothing would change
As soon as the power is off to the mb setings to made to the bios wil reset to defoult .... Its comon to reset bios this way when u make error moves and set some incorect setings to your bios resulting on unstable startups or completly freazes on powering on PC
Doubt it, When your power is off, PSU stops supplying any Power, You can test it with a multimeter,
@@Snowaxe3D PSU still supplies +5SB, which is why it can turn on, it's not unreasonable to also use it for bypassing the CMOS battery
I think it works on laptop but removing it will make your portable into a pc
You are right. The cmos is powered by the 5vsb supply in the psu. My psu cansupply up to 3 amps in standby
No it wouldn't, until you really cut the power. If the the PC is just shutdown, then nothing happens, the motherboard needs to not get any power for about 5-10seconds, before the bios actually resets.

As long as your PSU is supplying power to the motherboard nothing will happen. Only if you completely drain the capacitors by turning everything off unplugging it from the wall and hitting the power button a few times to drain every but of juice. Only then will your mobo need that CMOS battery

hmm, i've been taught that the BIOS is stored in ROM, which is non-volatile (retains data after power loss) ans that the CMOS just stores user data for the BIOS (like profiles, clock, etc). so realistically, wouldn't it affect the clock and maybe some overclocking features?
Bios settings are stored in special ram, not your sticks, bios itself is stored in EPRom

Just rebooting you'll be fine, but when you cold start you'll get the Check Sum error.

I did remove the bios battery since i need to clean the mother and the gpu is now stuck at 210mhz 💀

@Kumari_44 probably a raid ahci issue preventing windows from booting depending on how it was installed

So far it has showcased an infinite boot and automatic repair loop, and recently added a triggered bitlocker to the mix.
I unlock bitlocker and it start bootloop/autorepair cycle before telling me bitlocker is triggered again

Isn’t that when you are supposed to replace them so nothing is lost due to lack of power? If you are afraid of dropping the battery, place a paper towel over the area around the slot, replaced said battery, remove the paper towel. 😂

Hey, I need help. Well my old pc has been doing some weird buzzing noise. So it happened like this: I opened pc ok I unplugged CMOS battery and restarted the PC. From now on it is foing that noise.

Is it normal that the cmos arrived a little scratched in a supposed new mobo? Bought from amazon as new, and the outside got also some scratches on top but no other sign as I am concerned
That is odd it could have been from shipping but I don’t think I have ever noticed that before. You should check the sellers reputation if it wasn’t sold by Amazon to see if anyone has had similar issues.
@@mattscomputerservices Everything with the sellers appeared fine, also everything else in the box, the m.2 heatsinks tapes, the cpu socket protector? The other accesories , so everything was fine except for the cmos and the outside of the box
