I think the real tension came around when JAY became president at Def Jam and JAY started calling shots at the label. Even DMX said JAY started moving different when he became an executive and I believe everything X said because he didn’t need to lie. According to X, JAY delayed the rollout of his album that was slated to come out at the time. The same might have happened to LL. Plus LL sadly was written out of the top MC conversations once he started getting more into acting so that probably added to the tension too.
@@challzbrown lol I don’t believe it either. JAY came after him so LL probably viewed JAY as being beneath him and then JAY basically became his boss like you said. LL can front all he want I know I would feel a way.
Nah for the most part history gives Canibus the victory because his song ‘Second Round KO’ was better than L’s rebuttal ‘Rip the Jacker’. It was basically the consensus back then and even now.
Nope not how it went. Thats the first time Def Jam tried to use their influence to give one of their artists a victory in battle. Canibus beat LL in the battle. He came with a song on GOAT 3 years too late. LL took an L on that one.
LL inside has been jealous of Jay. L called himself the goat. So running out of rhymes was a lame excuse. That shouldn't have happen. Also through the years, he knows that Jay is lyrically great. Jay came and had major success consistently. In my opinion, Jay is lyrically better, has the better catalog of music. No debate for me.
Thats crazy you mentioned the Cass v Freeway battle. On occasion i still go back and watch that jawn. Swizzy knew he found that battle beast. 😂 LL has stamped HipHop but nahhh they supposed to be like how Jay and Nas come together. 😂😂😂 The grilling each other shit is crazzzyyyy !!!!
How you doing brother. The channel is pretty dope. I'm definitely was feeling what you're saying about LL attitude when he feels that another Youngblood outshining him. That's also the reason why the Cannabis beef happen. Cannabis with a huge fan of LL Cool j, that was his Idol. LL Cool J got offended when cannabis had a line on the original 4321 single of LL Cool J's. The line pretty much went like" LL, I see that you have a mic on your arm, let me borrow that." He made cannabis chances his whole verse. Then LL rhymes after cannabis with subliminals dissing him on the same track. When cannabis found out, he reached out to LL respectfully and spoke to him about how he felt about the subliminals that he threw at him. He felt like he was being chumped by LL Cool J and he also felt that the Hip Hop listeners will catch on to what really happened. LL tried to Little Bro Him, I felt like he was being disrespectful and condescending towards him. That's why I cannabis came out with second round knockout. LL Cool J try to reach out to him to squash the beef after the song came out, which he should done in the beginning they're altercation. At least I understand the reason why he tried to squash the beef. He felt like cannabis was committed career suicide with that track. Even though a true hip hop listener knows that cannabis won that battle,he wasn't going to be able to win the war because everybody loves LL Cool J and biased towards him, he was going to end up losing to the Public's eyes. Sorry I made this paragraph long as hell but I just wanted to make my point. I could see LL Cool J fail in a certain way about a rapper getting the best of them.
All of this is very true and LL made that battle with Canibus happen because of his ego. Canibus never wanted to diss L and really just wanted his approval. L was very wary of a young rapper taking him down so he always kept his head on a swivel and battle ready. He didn’t have to battle Canibus but his ego made him a monster so he dissed him instead.
LL is still salty 3 decades later!!!… I can say this tho he’s Hip-Hop to the core. But that hurt his pride. LL was a wounded animal when he got out-rhymed. He was coming off his worst album, 14 Shots To The Dome and he was in the club looking like a Boot Camp Clique member when he should’ve been looking more like Jay😂 the sight of it makes me laugh.
That’s hilarious, I wasn’t sure if the battle was before our after he dropped the album but if he dropped the album THEN tried to spit a rhyme off the album that’s super lame that’s why they laughed. His feeling and ego took a bruise and it still hurts because Jay Z became so big. I can tell he has some unresolved feelings about it and Jay not to mention he has more issues with Jay than just the battle
@@challzbrown Nah it was after. Thats why they laughed and made the story funnier when they said he spit a rhyme off of funky delic relic. Hov done served Busta, GZA, DMX and LL in battle on the streets coming up. And then with his success the envy from his peers come. Busta even made a diss song against Hov when he perceived a slight cause he called Busta animated on What More Can I Say. Ghost recently told a story how the Wu (Divine and Rza) jerked Hov out of $500 on a show back in the day.
@@wc6081Whatttt?!? I didn’t know Busta had an issue with that bar! How you gonna be mad at “animated” when you literally have “flipmode cartoons”?!? Make it make sense 😂
@@Lexx1192 Yep😂 Busta sent a shot on a mixtape. Hov even said it was really a compliment. But I think Busta held a little something in from that battle they had in high school
Normally I wouldn’t agree because it was a battle but at this point I think he should apologize just because they are elder statesmen and so big for the culture. He doesn’t have to but it wouldn’t hurt. I don’t think LL would accept it, just based on pride.
Wait what!? Gtfoh. LL is a great MC and a GOAT literally made up the term. But LL is arrogant when it comes to the microphone! And goes at people when they collaborate with him. F all that apology ish.

All facts but LL says the in the Charlemagne interview that he was never mad at Jay Z for that and he applauded him but nobody believes that.
I think it's this. LL is being diplomatic but I think the Def Jam thing kicked it off.

Exactly
LL regardless still hip hop and never turned his back on the culture cant say that for everyone
Wait...LL lost to Canibus??? That's not how I remember it! Thought LL killed him lyrically.
Nah for the most part history gives Canibus the victory because his song ‘Second Round KO’ was better than L’s rebuttal ‘Rip the Jacker’. It was basically the consensus back then and even now.
Canibus won the battle but lost the war horribly
@@challzbrown thank you for breaking it down! I reimagined history. Canibus was amazing lyrically....it totally makes sense.

Any thoughts on the new single PASSION though ?
I like it, dope record
It’s average, nothing great, better than his first single.
