Thanks Martin, We have had some great times with our boat. Keep the dream going and you will sooner or later end up with one and having some great times yourself :-)
Thanks Paul, Very helpful video to understand what's involved in fixing up some dings in the Mac. I'm looking at buying one that's been sitting on a trailer for years in a very dry climate so this video has aided me in my getting my ducks in a row for the pre-purchase inspection. I have a better understanding about the condition to expect now, especially with the black gelcoat strips. Thank you and I look forward to watching your other videos..
Good stuff Paul, loving the tips and no nonsense approach of all the little tasks we face us boaters, and of course the ramblings of a like minded soul!! Keep 'em coming mate and stay safe!
Big Annie takes issue with you describing anything I do as a no nonsense approach Jack. I told her that you would say that because you're likeminded ;-)
Thanks Michael and I too am possibly in need of it, but fairly certain we would be wasting our dam time so I don't know about you, but I'm not gunna bother...:-( Anyway, that bloke at the add desk must have watched the vid, because I have been getting "I dont care, I love it" KFC adds all night tonight, which is much more in line with where I'm at in life... 😁
Great video Paul. I have been following you for years and live where you live and what you do! Thanks for the therapy as mine has not been in the water 💦 for 6 months due to the lock down. You can guess where I am 😳. Although hoping to get out this Melbourne cup weekend weather permitting😃🎣⛵️ 26X now the regime is allowing us to.
One important comment I accidently edited out of the video. If you have a gal trailer, be careful NOT to drop any of that acid on it! I learnt that the hard way on my last boat 11 years ago ;-)
Another great video Paul - always love watching all the vids you’ve made and really appreciate the time and effort you put into sharing your experiences, tips, how-to’s, and your candid humour! ... safe sailing mate ... we have a 26M also but have yet to put her on the water (!!) until I have enough sailing experience with the mirror dinghy, etc.
Mate, there will be much fun to be had from your Mirror, but you can take the Mac out now! Read the little "How to Sail" guide Macgregor put at the back of the manual macgregorsailboats.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/MacGregor-26M-Owners-Manual-Instructions.pdf Now take the boat out into deeper water where you can't hit anything. Do it it on a calm day with no more than about 10 knots blowing, and play around, Start with the jib/Genny, then roll that away and play with the main, then play with both together. You will be fine trust me! Don't be concerned with everything being just right, who cares if the tell tales are not all flying the right way, just get the boat moving along in light winds, take everything slow and easy. Most people who have never been on a sailboat will be scared once the boat starts heeling, or when the boom is moving across. Ease them into it slowly over time, especially if we are talking about people you hope to enjoy cruising with for a long time (i.e partners, kids) Have fun!
Great video as usual Paul and yes I did watch it right to the very end. Proof = the pommy flag coffee mug. As for the ads, well I confess to not seeing them, although your description of them sounds magnificent.
Ha ha, all Aussie but the product of an English mother and Welsh father. Sorry to hear you have missed out on those adds, but I'd be happy to pass that earwax one on..
Hey Paul, liked the video lots of tips, tricks and how to in this one. You will be pleased to know they gave you a Ford ad where I'm at, lol the lawn mower lmao!
Paul, loved the tip on the gelcoat restorer. Just a comment though, you should ALWAYS add Acid to Water, never the reverse. Remember the rhyme - "Acid to Water, All is Well. Water to Acid, What an Accident!".
I can't remember where I read about this, but I epoxied a piece of PVC pipe that I had slit 1/3 of the circumference from to the section of my daggerboard that takes the most punishment inside the sleeve of the 26M. It makes the fit much closer to reduce the knocking about and it eliminated all the chipping you show in the video.
@@OldDadProductions I found the post. I think you need an account at this website for this link to work: macgregorsailors.com/mods/index.php?page=item&id=1095 I did this mod and it is working great for me. One thing to be careful of is not to extend the pipe too low on the daggerboard because the board trunk gets narrower at the bottom.
Hey mate, beer button is in the channel home page, although I can't find it from my phone, only seems to be there from my computer....!... No I didn't get an email, where did you send it?
Hi, I know this boat have daggerboards, just wondering if they have water ballast too. And can the boat cruise ocean? Thank you. PS: I fell in love with it, when I saw the video where it beached, easy to just jump ashore. No need for a dingy. Is this true and is it unsinkable?
Hi, yes it has daggerboard and two rudders and takes on about 550kgs of water as ballast. It is a trailer sailer, designed and built as a protected water cruiser, Coastal cruising is ok if you keep an eye on the weather and don't have too far between safe anchorages, but no, it is not built for, or suitable for ocean cruising. It will float if full of water (depending on how much crap you have in it), but nothing is unsinkable. If you end up in a giant sea with 12 meter breaking waves and tons of water crashing down on the boat, the windows will be staved in and the steerage system will break and the boat and crew may end up on the bottom! In other words, if your goal is ocean cruising, this is the not the boat ;-) Most trailer sailers are not designed for ocean cruising.
Hi mate. Love your videos. We are looking to buy a Macgregor in the new year. Is your wife Chinese ? My wife is from Guangzhou, maybe we can catch up on the water one day .
@@OldDadProductions Paul. We got a 26x in January. First time out on Anzac Day weekend. 2 nights at Peel Island. Great weekend to shakedown the boat and relax
@@ianandmaria-ozphiladventures Congrats on the new boat and weekend at Peel. Sadly, I havn't been to Peel all year, not much boating happening at the moment....
Ahh, mate tell your good friend, that my friend told me, that he just needs to grow his pinky fingernails about 5mm long - and he will have a perfect little earwax spoon for each side!
Hey mate can you pop over and give my Mac a clean up, due to lockdown here in Melbourne have not seen her for 6 months, can't wait to clean the mould off teh cabin roof. ewwwww
I enjoy your videos. I'm hoping to someday get a Mac26 of my own so what you have been showing really helps me keep the dream alive. thanks!

I used muriatic (hydrochloric) acid on my boat after it sat in salt water for 6 months and it just dissolved everything like magic. Awesome stuff.

So many boatyards use such toxic acids that the workers lives are shortened. My mate Murray has no longer any sense of smell due to boatyard chems.
Another thoroughly absorbing video thanks.
For sure, don't think I'd want to work with fibreglass resin all day like boat builders do, not to mention antifoul etc etc.
