They are the classic seaside special train , I always remember them running to Skegness. Not sure which towns it went through now , it was a long time ago. Two locos nose to nose on passenger services. . The 58s always remind me of two 20s
Thanks for this review. It's fascinating that such an old locomotive is kept in service despite technological advances made in diesel electric propulsion. The level of detail and intensity of your recent reviews throughout the past few years leaves little room for any dissent against your attention to detail or knowledge. Thanks, Sam!
Given the high quality of the camera when doing the detail close-ups, you may want to give the model a quick blast from an air gun first to remove the dust and bits of dirty from the factory. Sometimes they make the model's paint look defective.
@@Meddled yes it's about time Sam took them off the carpet. His reviews have matured into being top.notch but will never be seen widely as such (especially by manufacturers) because he's seen as the lad who drives trains on his carpet. He deserves better.
You've really convinced me Sam. Would love a couple more diesels for my BR collection. Will definitely pick one of these up. Love these reviews. Keep up the great work 👍

Its rare and good to see sam happy. Usually he manages to find some short comings, given his detailed metric for ratings. I think the heavy discount made the rating even higher.
Sam, Thank You for your genuine assessment on this model . So good to see a proper product with a justifiable price tag . Just put a pre-owned one it in my Trunk at Hattons . It looks very much like the actual locomotive ( livery and all ) and I appreciate that attention to detail . Video/new cam looked detectably clearer here ! Cheers !👍
Great review here Sam, need to get a bachmann class 20 or a pair of them because they normally run in pairs, I have recently just picked up one of the bachmann midland pullmans which is one of their best train packs avaliable.
Just got the Railfrieght Grey version DCC sound for £194 on Black Friday from Kernow model railways. Very happy with that can’t wait for it to arrive 👌
Ah, it's a new camera! That would explain it. During the Detail section I could quite easily seem some dust, blemishes and even light bleed on the masking lines (especially under the handrail). With the naked eye I can't imagine you'd see them, which was reflected in your commentary, but there was a level of sharpness and detail in the up-close video footage that I've not seen before. Always great to see another review. Keep it up!
Well Bachman has finally done it. Built a engine that not only great looking has a good mechanism and runs great but the best thing is it is not overly expensive. It is affordable. Great job Bachman keep it up.
Just a reminder that this engine is actually a hood-unit. Excellent locomotive by the way. I actually have a suggestion for an American locomotive that you could probably review. The Bachmann USRA light mikado could probably be a good engine for review. I have one of those on my railroad decorated in Southern railway lettering. The thing works like a charm but it doesn’t have bearings or figurines. Nonetheless a wonderful model for people who want a fairly “inexpensive” heavy freight locomotive. I purchased mine for 250 US dollars.

Bought mine some months ago, in BR green. I also have the old model, also in BR green. First impression : the new model is really an improvement : looks better, run better, and silently than the old one I have a constant screech from the gearing while running with the old one. Dynamic performances : very good to excellent, the preceding was fair from good in this area, I have not chipped mine yet, but, with the good performances on DC, I can expect a good level of performance on DCC. I've paid mine GBP128 plus shipping and french VAT on arrival (add 20%) and, honestly, it's a fair price for what I've got. Bachmann does not swindle you with this one, it's a must-have. No shoddy finish, no asthmatic motor, no 1960s drivetrain, an up to date DCC socket, lights on (mine have some too !), no HST-like gearing, this one is what a model should be. In short for me : you want the new model ? Buy it ! It's excellent. Second hand ? The former class 20 is also a good one around the GBP 70 mark. At this price, it's also a must-have, buy it. The odd one is the Irish engine at the 25:54 mark.
Superb video Sam. Funny I like the livery of the model. At first I thought it was an Irish locomotive but it is still a great livery, and I think that Bachman have done it proud with what looks like a perfect job (apart from the apparent finger print - cotton bud to see if it wasn’t yours ) . And what a performer. Love the speeds. The new camera also works well. Great video. Thanks for your great review.
I love how Sam is able to pump out reviews. This actually has me inspired to start doing reviews in 2023. Keep up the good work Sam's Trains. Hopefully Bachmann will settle down in there prices.
Kia ora Sam, another great video and camera seemed to work well. Did you have 2 odd locos out this time with the Class 22 and Class 35 at around 24:57. Love watching your videos and look forward to many more before Christmas. Nga mihi nui from New Zealand/ Aotearoa, James.
The odd one out. It's either the 37 on the turntable, the truck on the land next to the water column, or the loco that appears to be in the Irish railways livery.
Loved the presentation. With the aforesaid in mind, I ordered yesterday the sound version from Kernow. Currently they have amazing prices and placed a total order of £899.95 which arrived today.
Well a year on - received your top loco for 2023 - AS Class37 - gone back faulty /refund - seems that AS make fine models - just as long as they remember these things are meant to run....not impressed after almost 2 years waiting. Hi Sam, great review, i have this model with factory sound, i was not a fan of the livery until i got it home, the livery is very bright and fresh, i'm looking to get another one very soon, keep the reviews coming.
Sam, I love your reviews as they are honest and informative. I would really like to see you review a premium model from one of the European specialists such as Fleishmann, Roco, Rivarossi or Marklin to see if the premium is worth it.
Think the odd one out is the Class 37 by the turntable, as its a Co-Co diesel, and the rest you've got set up like the Class 29 'Rat' and the 35 Hymek are Bo-Bo engines.
I thought that too, but then I spotted the Irish loco and this threw me somewhat, because then you could say that it was the only loco on his layout at the time that was not run by British Rail.
I actually rather like this livery. I like the sort of red-orange against the black, and it feels very Thomas-like. The character Norman in the CGI series has a similar livery.
That looks so great, from the distance I thought are there opening cab doors on the model? I don't think you can get any better than this locomotive, Bachmann have to be congratulated on this model as it is great when they get it right! Now that you have four class 20s you can now run two Jolly Fisherman Expresses from Nottingham to Skeggie! I couldn't believe it back in the Seventies when two of these were double heading a blue grey plus almost faded pink maroon rake of coaches into the Skeggie terminus! It is a bit unfair to this loco but the Harry Needle locos are used almost exclusively for delivering stock. So you would need the loco, an emu or dmu and then a barrier coach. That all becomes a bit of a faff and expense. I run modern trains and this has never been on my list for these reasons.

New camera looks great Sam
Thank you! :D
I like the orange and yellow on this Class 20. Nice details as well!
This would of done amazing in the top 50 models video
Great video Sam! The odd one out is the Bachmann class 37. Thanks again for making this, I was thinking about buying one.
Good review! I will buy one...
A nice model. A shame bachmann didn't bother working out a way to get the white marker lights to work, which other people have done.
So amazing review sam.
Thanks a lot Justin! :D
This is the second time in a row a single-cabbed diesel gets christened the best loco of the year (I’m talking about the CIÉ 121).
This is on my wishlist to get, looks excellent!
I don't blame you - it is very good!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Odd one out in the sidings, Not sure ? was that the Loco that looks like a Pullman . 🤪🤪😎
